I agree with most of this. Not sure I want to waste more U.S. resources, though...deport him back to someone else's prison.
We always tend to go after the wrong entity in this country. We go after the prostitute instead of the pimp, we go after the illegal immigrant, rather than the employer.
For me, border security has been and always will be about protecting U.S. limited resources. We don't really do a good job of taking care of the poor and downtrodden who already live here, so I'm not sure we want to keep adding more.
Problem is he isn't a criminal in the eyes of whatever place he came from (didn't read the article, but I am getting the gist of the complaint). So if you send him back he will be a free man in that country.
I'm all for going after employers.
In the specific case you two are speaking about, do either of you have any evidence that the employer violated the law?
If so, have either of you provided the evidence to
U.S. immigration officials?
How about the fact that the dude lived in a trailer his employer provided for him??
And isn't it the job of the employer to reasonably know their employees are legal to work here??? Did the employer use E-verify?
Why wasn't anyone asking the employer to provide his records so he could potentially show he might have been reasonably duped into believing his employee was legal to work here?? That should be pro forma any time anyone illegal has been found working in the US. Employer needs to show all their records.
If an illegal is working for you that already in my mind puts you at enough suspicion of a crime that a search warrant could be issued for all your employees records and Financials.
Bet this guy kept zero records and paid in cash.
What we need to do was change the law to basically state that you have to take reasonable care to make sure your employees are legal workers and if you didn't you lose everything.
Corporations who do this have their HR managers arrested and held personally liable and if they can provide evidence that someone above them ordered it we might reduce their prison sentence depending on the quality of the evidence and how far up it goes. All of those people also go to prison and lose everything.
We could do this and 80% of illegals would leave on their own because they can no longer find work. But we don't do it, because this is by design. And instead of demanding we do this, the right wing gets behind stupid wastes of money like thousand mile long walls. An idea so insanely stupid and easily defeated it boggles the mind that any mentality competant adult actually thinks it would work.
They take their anger out on the immigrants themselves who let's be honest are just people who want a better life. Seems dumb to hate someone who is poor and just wants a better life. Hate the people who look at that and say, I could hire an American, but they are too expensive so I'll just hire an illegal because they do just as much if not more work at a fraction of the price.
