Brody Teske vs Bryce West

Wow what a great match to watch
No kidding. Thought Teske was more the aggressor throughout, but lots of good action from both guys. It was like West got a little too defensive in the 3rd after building his lead, trying to stay out of some big move positions, and Teske just kept going and going. End result. Boom.

Will these two meet in the state tournament or are they in different classes?

Great match is right! Did I hear the announcer correctly? Were both kids ranked #1?
Brody Teske put together back to back 43-0 seasons and 2 State Titles in Class 3A (Iowa's biggest class). 2nd in Fargo Cadet Freestyle this year. He's a Junior.

Bryce West is 153-2, and went 3,1,1, in Class 1-A (Iowa's smallest class). He was 105-0 the last two years and has a twin brother Drew that is very good as well. They transferred to a nearby Class 2-A school for their Senior year. Went from a 1-A school a little south of Iowa City, to a 2-A school a little north of Iowa City.

And just a few miles away in Independence might have been one of the matches of the season. Teske cradled Bryce West to end a two-year unbeaten run with an exciting, scrambling session that (probably) won’t soon be topped by elite talent. A few minutes later, Teske’s Dodger teammate Triston Lara took down New Hampton’s Keaton Geerts in the 138 final. Both were state champs last season in 3A and 2A.

Let’s hope there are more days like Saturday soon.

A little summary for those on this list and their recruitment.

It would be stunning if the son of Terry and the nephew of Tom wound up anywhere but Iowa, yet other colleges are circling, including North Carolina and Air Force.

Marcus Coleman - 170
College choice: Committed to stay home with Iowa State in July. Coleman also had interest from Missouri, Nebraska and Northern Iowa.

Max Lyon - 182
College choice: Joined an improving recruiting class at Purdue with a commitment two months ago. Also had interest from nearby Northern Iowa.

Chase Shiltz - 182

Controversial takedown at the end to win it for Lara. Good, close match between future UNI teammates.

Do you think theirs a chance they moved to avoid Thomsen? He's been there kryptonite I believe.

I salute all top level wrestlers who lay it on the line and wrestle the big matches v. bumping up/sitting out, etc. Congrats to all.

Apples and oranges. They don't seed the state tournament. If they did the same way college does you might see more of it.

The way high school is set up, it's in their best interest to face top competition early to get the experience especially when they're in different classes like West-Teske.

Huh? Some guys make it a point to wrestle the best competition, while others tend to avoid the tough matches. Some kids switch schools, change weight classes, etc, to essentially avoid other tough wrestlers. I am just complimenting the kids that do NOT avoid tough competitors, but lay it on the line and risk a loss. I am not commenting about seeding/state tournament at all.

That's probably a bit of a reach, but I would not know. It that were somebodies thought process, it would be easier to move a weight than to move to another school. There are also 2 of them and only one of him, so I doubt it.
