Dont care that we won... that was one of the worst officiated games I've seen this year. Call the ticky tack yet let muggings go, for both teams. I swear once #21 got his third foul they told him the verticality rule no longer applied to him the rest of the game.

I wish they'd find a solution where they could attract & retain quality talent.

Maybe the Power 6 conferences need to come together, use all that TV money they have, and hire full time officials where every official is trained to call the games the same way.

And just for general discussion: Is there a sport, pro or college, where you would consider officiating good? Hell, even with the NFL there have been some really bad calls. And in the NBA, they still favor star players and the "star" teams.

It's basically impossible IMO to fairly officiate a basketball game. But this one was outside the norm - the awful side.

Very strange game, thanks to the officials. Was this their first game ever?

Just baffling calls and no-calls.

Good to get away from that with a win.
Yep. Honestly it sucks too come here after games, (win or lose), and talk about the officials. Unfortunately they are SO bad, that you simply can't escape them being a topic of conversation. Its the level of inconsistency, and obviously blatant wrong calls that are just baffling...

Every sport will have bad/missed calls, but IMO basketball FAR out paces the others. I think challenges/reviews has really cleaned up football and as soon as they bring in the electronic strike zone to baseball that sport should have very few bbad calls.

I know it would slow the game down some but coaches should be allowed to challenge a couple calls a game. Similar to the NBA. Win the challenge, keep your timeout. Duke fans would agree.

College Basketball is next level when it comes to shitty officiating. There is no such thing as a perfectly called Basketball game due to how difficult it is, but there is a variance that is acceptable.

Today's game was just trash in how it was officiated, it blew any variance out of the water.
Yes, it was sooooo awful!!! So many blatantly missed calls……

I'm not a big one on griping about the officiating, the job flat out sucks. But there was no consistency, they went from letting hard fouls go and then call touch fouls. At half time I thought for sure Minnesota was going to foul themselves out of the game but then the officials started swallowing their whistles.

Iowa won so it's a moot point.

The nfl has handcuffed itself with rules regarding the qb that are impossible to follow so I don't even know how to judge them.

The officiating is so much better in the nba than college basketball its not even comparable.

It's definitely frustrating. There were at least three fouls on KM while he was inside the paint.
Cheers and GO HAWKS!

Baseball, with the exception of the strike zone changing from game to game (and often within a game) is remarkably good. Rarely get the bang-bang plays wrong. Also, both the NFL and the NBA have good officials. I assume they are the cream of the crop that have risen from the college games while the chaff remains behind to screw up games.

Its impossible to consistently get all calls right but its not hard to point out the guys that consistently make terrible calls.

When they let guys like Larry Scirato and Courtney Green continue to do games it tells you they don't care.

Yeah, it is and has been bad, maybe need fulltime Bball and Football refs in college with all the money that is out there.

If any of you havent seen the bad, terrible reffing at Purdue that made Lute O take his first step toward Arizona then try to find it and I will also. It was outrageously bad

Exactly, with the amount of money involved why the hell can't they just hire full time guys?

Seriously, what does the ncaa even do besides run a tournament once a year?

I think a good idea would be a 4th referee who is basically an auditor. Essentially the 'booth reveiw' version of basketball. This referee sits at the scorers table and watches monitors and can stop play to review or overturn, or reverse a poor call. Basketball is too fast paced to do any type of 'challenge' system so this guy would intervene in real time. Right after a whistle he rolls back the tape to check it. Sure stuff will still get missed, but it would be better than now.

They reviewed it and still got it wrong. Said foul happened after the clock went to 0:00.

Would you say they had a silent effort today?

The officiating is so bad and so inconsistent that I don't think there is any way that it is due to incompetence. Today, to me, it was obvious that Minnesota was going to be officiated way way different, probably because of their covid issues, short bench, and just how bad they are to be featured in a nationally televised game on FOX. There is no way that any official at any level, let alone someone who has "qualified" to officiate a B1G game, lets go the stuff they let go. Payne and Joseph would have fouled out in the first half easy and Henley and Battle were right behind them. But if they called it like they should have it would have been beyond embarassing.

I think the goal is to create competitive games, however they have to do it, until atleast the under 8 timeout. In a nationally televised game they don't want people turning the channel. Sad but all the facts point to being true.

Agree 100 💯. Payne fouled out repeatedly but they just wouldn't call it.

I remember way back, when Rich Falk, the ex-Northwestern coach, was named Supervisors of Officials for the B1G and I thought perhaps, now, something would be done about the atrocious supervising that we had seen for decades, but no, he dropped the ball as well.

Most inconsistence between halves as I've seen in the Big this year and I've seen a lot of shitty officiating. Iowa got homered in the second half plus Minny got away with a bunch of body fouls on those 1st half blocks.

Watching the Alabama Auburn game and its a pretty decent officiated game. Nothing like what I've seen lately. Consistent and calling it like i remember tourny games being called. So different than the big 10 games. Or the isu approach of hacking incessantly forcing officials to call a foul every 30 seconds or ignore it.

Yeah, the little fat guy (whose name I will not print) spends the whole game trying to piss Fran off so he can T him up. Don't know what he does in games that don't involve Iowa but I imagine he sucks in those as well.

Yeah Bain always sucked but that game he was mainly trying to end it fast so he could get on his personal jet and fly off to his next reffing job.

I once saw Bain reffing a game somewhere out west (involved some Colorado team I think) and he was doing his usual thing of making calls from 30 feet away, running in blowing his whistle and pointing. However the crew chief was having none of it and overruled him about 3 times before Bain figured out to stick his whistle in his ass and stay quiet. That was a fun day.

Always has that smirk on his face when talking to Fran. The guy is a complete ass on and off the court. Most fan bases are disappointed when they see him on the court.

Too soon.

Agree that this was the worst officiated game I’ve seen in a long time. It was like the officials decided at half time that Minnesota wouldn’t be called for a foul in the second half because they were called for more fouls in the first half. Many of the calls made no sense. LS calling touch fouls on Iowa when people are getting mugged down low. The block call on Perk when the Minnesota player lost his balance was laughable. How can anyone in the Big Ten office watch this officiating and think these 3 guys should be given more games to referee?

People that did not see the last 3 regular season games in 1981 would not believe the officiating blitzkrieg the Big Ten unleashed on Iowa. It was so obvious, so brutally dishonest and so completely and immediately defended by the conference, when every basketball analyst in the new world of cable sports talking about it to have been anything short of directed. Jim Baine should have been lynched on the spot. It would have saved his future victims, including his only game with Iowa.

And the Hawks get them every other game! Ridiculous

Ask yourself this question, if the Big Ten wanted different officiating why doesn't the Big Ten hire different officials or more critically supervise the officials it already has? After decades of saying the same thing, and primarily by the same schools' fans people need to admit the Big Ten business model is getting enough dishonest, incompetent or petty officials to ensure a fairly reliable order in sustained success. Everyone gets rich so why rock the boat?
