I'm not happy with the Big Ten Network. Choosing not to televise any of the Midlands is not a positive for wrestling. I was talking to some middle school kids. I was getting them pumped up to watch some Midlands. Later I had to tell them that wrestling is not for the public to watch anymore. It's sad that that they want to make it impossible to find new viewers.
I was not happy when they stole wrestling from PBS, and I'm even less happy now. Yes, all of us old folks can afford pay for view. No exposure is not good for the sport. How many (on another thread) said that their first exposure to wrestling was on IPTV?

Not that I care as much, but they are also ruining basketball too. I couldn't agree with you more about missing IPTV. I get serious nostalgia watching their broadcasts on YouTube.

Wait what, when did it come out that the finals aren't on BTN?

Or was everyone just assuming they were going to be?

Though I completely agree with you about the Midlands, what does this mean: “Wrestling is not for the public to watch anymore”?

There is far more wrestling on TV today due to the BTN than there was prior to its existence and it’s isn’t even close. I enjoyed IPTV for what it was at the time but I do not miss those days at all.

I get your point, while we are all highly critical of FloWrestling for many different reasons, they are keeping wrestling's heart beating from a viewership standpoint.

And I have to add, I've watched nearly every Iowa match this tournament and 4 minutes of the Iowa basketball game for a mere $15 bucks. On IPTV I'd have been watching Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street.

College wrestling is a pay per view sport. Whereas you can watch men's and women's basketball, d2 basketball, volleyball , womens' softball on ESPN2 and ESPNU all year long.

I blame it on not fully utilizing the Dual season, to crown conference and then and NCAA dual champion. It's a 1 week season , in March as far as ESPN is concerned.

You paid 5 too much, you can get all that with the one school 10/month rate.

If you think the reason wrestling isn’t a TV draw is because of how they arrange the college season you’re sorely mistaken. The issues run far deeper. Not a whole lot of regular season action from several of the other sports you mention, either.

This is the 1st time since BTN channel began that they have not televised the finals of Midlands. Awfully coincidental that this happens after Flo gets involved.....

I guess I was just assuming the BTN would be televising. Why? Because they have televised the finals EVERY year since the BTN started programming.

Silly me for thinking they would be again.

Agreed, I would be interested to see what their viewership #’s were for the midlands finals vs what they had on today. I’m far to lazy to search that but it’s frustrating that our sport has to go the ppv route. Not the way to grown the sport. They have like 8 btn alternative channels on dish. Surly one could show some Midlands cameras and sell some advertising.

I can tell you here in Western Pa they are showing Lipscomb Vs Purdue Basketball while the finals are on. Now I’m not related to Arthur C. Nielsen or anything like that but I’m pretty sure no one in my neck of the woods will be watching that.

Not on public airwaves (Ch. 4, 6, 8, 12 when I was a kid). Most kids get BTN today so I would consider that similar to the standard 4 channels of yesterday. BTN+ not so much.

Ok. Most sports are on a “cable” channel today. Not seeing how the BTN killed wrestling.

I didn't say they killed it. I think we have taken a step backwards by not televising this event this year. There have been 3 duals on BTN so far and 13 more to come. That's pretty good, but how many tournaments are they showing? Zero. I did notice that as of now they are not televising the big10 championships (hope it's just not showing up on their schedule yet). On a positive note I did enjoy the Olympic channel showing worlds this year.

As bad as half the Midlands final matches were, BTN probably did the sport a service by not televising the event. Any new viewers watching those matches are not likely to want more of that "action".

I'm not happy either about no TV telecast; however, the rest of your post is ridiculous. You could have set up a TV for the kids hooked to the computer and seen 100's of the matches as all of them from Midlands were/are available to the fans (isn't that wonderful?) The number of duals on TV now is about 20 times greater than what it was prior to BTN. The IPTV broadcasts were great and thankful for them; but, 20 times more seems a little better to me. ;) Don't forget that IPTV was mostly limited to Iowa only. The viewership of Iowa meets is now nationwide. The BTN will aire something like 8 Iowa meets now. That is a major increase of what IPTV use to do.

Ah sorry. They just “stole wrestling” from PBS which you aren’t happy about.

There is no such thing as free, but don't act like I don't already pay for BTN, and now I have to pony up for something I didn't previously. That sucks whether you think it doesn't or not.

Hold on. Are you saying you didn’t pay for TV back when duals were on IPTV? If so you were one of the only sports fans in that boat. If you’re talking about BTN+ you’re missing the point.

In your basement with Mom yelling that dinner is ready and interrupting Mr. Rogers! LOL

BTN had nothing to do with losing wrestling on PBS.Contact the BTN as I have in the past if you want to get your point across.

Its NOT about FLO its about the finals being changed from a Sunday afternoon to a Saturday night when Basketball is king.

I doubt too many people in the Purdue area were watching that game

I don't know what the ratings for Midlands have been in the past and what the Purdue game ratings were. The attendance at midlands looked pathetic on the video streams.

Does anyone else have the weird glitch when watching matches on Flo? It's like it rewinds itself & replays the same sequence 3 or 4 times. Can't say I've noticed it during a live match but happens when I go back & watch a recorded match. I remember it happening quite a bit when I watched Heil vs. Meredith.
