How about those Panthers?

Great point on other markets for recruiting but i still think UNI shoupd be on schedule.

Remember that waste of time quad iowa used to have with iow central coe etc. that should be revitalized to
Iowa
Uni
Iowa state
Wartburg
Grandview
And upper iowa if they still good in D2.

Like natty duals but in state duals.

Would love a triangular...winner gets to keep home mat the next year.

Iowa State and mostly likely UNI would never agree to that. How about Wells Fargo every year?

Well....those are my terms. But yea, could do the initial dual in Wells Fargo. The following year, they become the Hawkeye State Duals (example)...name/site rotates to the winner. Real skin in the game and only one weigh-in and competition date.

It's basically like we haven't done it, and we don't want to give them it. Stubborn about it. We aren't scared of them (sure as hell shouldn't be). But yeah we schedule other decent and similar level teams (potentially) I just don't see why not other than top of this paragraph

I would like for it to be in Iowa City every year as well. Won't happen. I get that this a "your terms" thing but no way the other states school would sign on to not hosting once every 3 years while Iowa does basically every year.

Not every year, but they have in the past. Football too, although the current rules for qualifying for bowls and the playoff, etc., will probably kill that. Them (UNI) being D1 in wrestling makes that not an issue in wrestling.
we haven;t played UNI in football since 2018 that's not very frequently

5 times? Id say 20X. Just like hawks over clones. Its amazing what dougs done with so little.

You sound like brands with the “we have nothing to gain” comment. Tons to gain. Logic asks why not all these yrs. Theres always 3-4 dates hawks schedule that provides nothing especially competition! UNI vs Iowa woupd provide a real sellout not just ticket sale sell out. Good for whole state and sport here in iowa.

You want to be ready in march no ducking and adding better competition is part of the formula.

I think TT are worried! I love hawks as well as doug! Woupd love to see both come together and if not together atleast compete with one another.

I would say UNI wrestles a much tougher schedule because thats how dougs wired. Hed love and welcome an iowa dual. TT not so much…..obviously.
There may be reasons to not wrestle UNI but being worried or scared of them is not on that list.

This is their best year under Schwab and Iowa would still spank them.

How many returning AA’s does UNI have this year, just Keck? I think Downey and Happel can AA but the ceiling for most of their “better” guys is rd 16/12

And they might never again with the rule changes for bowl eligibility, FBS, FCS or whatever, and all that crap I can't keep track of. But they did play North Dakota recently. Aren't they FBS (formerly Div1AA?)?

I should have left that point out. Apparently, we don't compete against them in most sports anymore.

Iowa and UNI play in football in 2026, although that might end up being the last time it's feasible to do so.

1. It was a long-standing traditional rivalry. Also, we play them in FB and BB. We need to have a true State Champion.
2. Nobody was more pissed off than I was the last time we went there to wrestle them. Very long story, but Brands had nothing on me that night. But that was a long time ago. Time heals wounds. Forgiveness is scriptural, and good for the soul. Besides, the West Gym is toast now, and the worst they can do is put it in the McLeod Center.
3. They will be the only Top 5 team we didn't wrestle this year. Their program is legit, and we need to see them before nationals. There are years we will slaughter them, but some years it could be a good meet. We need another Top 5 blowout after how we looked against Nebraska (and kind of tOSU and Minny). We have looked flat lately, not a lot of fire or urgency in many matches. They could make us look good again.
4. I'm sure there are more good reasons. I just can't think of them right now.

EDIT; But none of that Thursday night BS.
Regarding #2 this sounds like a great story. Please share. What happened?

OK, you asked for it. I really shouldn't have been as mad as I was, but here goes;
I always went to Iowa-UNI meets, home and away, except when they interfered with my sons' meets (1 or two of the four meets I've missed in Carver). I ALWAYS had tickets in hand when I went to Cedar Falls. They had the previous two meetings with us at the McLeod Center, even though they had resumed some meets at the West Gym, and I ASSumed they would have our meet at McLeod with the higher demand for seats, so tickets would be available at the door. I loaded up seven of us in my sister's minivan and we headed to CF. We made the 2-hour trip from Muscatine, and as we pulled up to McLeod a little over an hour before start time it was dark inside and there were no vehicles in the parking lot. We headed next door to the UNIdome and the same thing there. So I said let's go check the West Gym. It was obvious that that's where it was by the fact that we had to park in the boondocks, even with a handicapped placard. We got parked, loaded my sister in her wheelchair, and trekked back to the building, where the lines stretched outside for quite a ways. After standing in line for a couple minutes, I said all these people can't be in line for tickets, so I headed up to the doorway, getting all kinds of dirty looks. Upon seeing a SOLD OUT sign on the ticket office, I returned to my family.
I wanted at least to hear the meet on KXIC, so we stopped quickly at a fast-food place (I think Wendy's if memory serves, but maybe not) instead of the OP or someplace else good to eat in CF or Waterloo, so we could listen on our way home. We started across US20 and down I380 and KXIC wouldn't come in. We got almost to CR before we could listen (this was before smart phones and Iheart and all that) and the meet was half over before we could. I was so frustrated. It was the first time I convinced my sister and b-i-l to go to an away meet with us, then all that happened. I was not a happy camper and I ranted for a while, some on this board about how stupid it was to turn away fans so they could not be outnumbered and to have it in that worn-out pit. That place was bad when I was there in the mid-70s. We got shut out of the wrestling room for weeks sanitizing it from Staph infections. Coach Patten had enough sense to have our meets in the UNIdome, but Brigsy moved them back to the West Gym to save money and because of 'tradition". When the McLeod Center got built I thought we had seen the last of the West Gym. Schwab had no "tradition" to honor there, but his brother did, and he saw a chance to limit Iowa fans so he pulled that crap.
