Do Iowa let its players participate in summer pickup games? Depends on who is in the pickup game I suppose, but that seems like a bad idea.
Basketball players train and play basketball. It's how they get better. All players play a ton of basketball in the summer. Some against their teammates, or in other games where there is a high level of competition. ACL injuries are more prevalent in the women's game, but injuries can happen to anyone.
