Nope, my job has made me acutely aware that most people will do just about anything to other people out of insecurity, narcissism, and a quest for more money.
What type of Church do you belong to anyway?
Nope, my job has made me acutely aware that most people will do just about anything to other people out of insecurity, narcissism, and a quest for more money.
What’s your job?
I do not. On a scale of 1 (pond scum) to 10 (me), everyone I meet starts around a 3 and has a very small window to prove themselves worthy. Exhibit certain behaviors or allegiances and you get the immediate boot with no chance to return. This methodology has proven me well over the years as I'm surrounded by interesting people that I enjoy spending time with.
How about you? Do you generally see the good in people?
I’d like to hear more about this “natural law” you speak of!
What is its origin?
What makes it binding?
What variations exist?
How is it adjudicated?
What is its overall purpose?
If I remember right, and I usually do, I offered to meet you at 218 and let you test drive my new Nissan Frontier when you were truck shopping before you bought the Taco. I'm at least a 6.9...I'm super judgy. And do this big time.

If it “all stems from a desire to preserve the species” then….All the answers can be derived from these two statements.
1) It all stems from a desire to preserve the species. Nothing more. It’s basic instinct. You weirdos think the desire to do so originates from god. I believe it’s just atoms being split over a loooonnnnng time and the instinct just happened at some point.
2). Eventually, we’ll overcome it and destroy ourselves.
If it “all stems from a desire to preserve the species” then….
- Why do we kill each other?
- Why do we kill ourselves?
- Why do we abuse our bodies with drugs & alcohol?
- Why do we enslave each other?
- Why are we never satisfied?
If it is basic instinct - why do almost all of us violate this “natural law?”
According to what you describe as instinct, we are all black sheep. Thus, it’s not instinct. There’s always a black sheep.

So, where does your “natural law” come from?
I do not. On a scale of 1 (pond scum) to 10 (me), everyone I meet starts around a 3 and has a very small window to prove themselves worthy. So if there are “norms,” why do we all constantly violate them?I edited my response above because your initial question was disingenuous…going from killing someone all the way to having a beer all in the same hypothetical? Pffft. My bad, it’s what you people do and I shouldn’t haven’t fallen for it.
To your question on this. I already told you. Splitting atoms over time. Norms over a millennia just happen. And they’re primarily revolved around self preservation. Until they’re not. And then we roast ourselves. It will happen.
So if there are “norms,” why do we all constantly violate them?
So you have backed off calling it law and instinct and are now calling it “norms. “ This is a problem.
Laws inherently require a law-giver.
Do you think most people are good or evil?
When push comes to shove I think people revert to their lowest common denominator.
How often do you think that happens to people?
Daily. Maybe hourly. The bar for when “push comes to shove” doesn’t need to be life or death.
We all have flaws, that's for sure.
I suppose most people are inbetween good and evil most of the time.
And lucky you, you’ve got the jeebus to cleanse your soul and free your mind when you fall down.
Must be nice.![]()
This ^I used to.
So many people have disappointed me the last 10 years I no longer do.

I may end up in eternal damnation, though.
I hope not.![]()
I sometimes attach an appearance to message board posters. I literally see you as Cameron which makes you appear more likeable to me. Weird huh?I'm super judgy. And do this big time.

No. Too many years of doing my job have taught me that it doesn't take a whole lot for a "good" person to do "bad" things.
I assume that people are not good. Some are better than others, or at least better at presenting themselves as "good".
This is the basic thing that explains why people commit fraud, and forms the basis for implementing controls in businesses:

This reference took me to a dark creepy place. Thanks a lot Cam.When Cameron was in Egypt’s land…….
Let my…….Cameron…….go……..
(Cameron is 1 million times more likable than me btw, problem is…….he’s dying - or just can’t think of anything better to do)
I agree 100% and am of a similar disposition.I mean this sincerely, I am a Christian and I think every human is fundamentally flawed. I also don’t think people have free will. Both of those things cause me to just not be terribly bothered by routine bad behavior or general annoyances. I assume people are having a bad day and move on.
I’m also the kind of person that’s gonna chat you up. If I’m in line at the grocery checkout I’ll start talking to the people around me. I assume everybody wants to have a quick laugh and I try to deliver.
Ultimately I don’t take life too seriously. Whatever you’re doing work hard at it and have as much fun doing it as possible.

You and @ISUBryce are Christian but don't believe that God gives us free will?
I can hear both sides of it.
Ultimately I don’t think it matters much. We are called to certain behaviors. To me it’s just not that important it’s just the way I view the world.
Blech. Waiting line conversation starters. If you can catch my vibe and just move along….

What denomination are you?
I think Calvinism and some Presbyterian groups don't believe in free will entirely.
I think God gives us free will. Which is why I disagree with OP. We chose to be happy or not. I refuse to be sucked into pessimism and misery. That is free will by definition if you ask me.You and @ISUBryce are Christian but don't believe that God gives us free will?
