So DeVos was a Frosh this year and ranked #1 at 106 for Waukee with a record of 43-1. If I have my info correct, he gets injured in a wrestle-off with teammate Briscoglia. Guess who wins the 3A state title at 106lbs? Yep.

Interesting story. Would like to know if anyone familiar with that program knows why they couldn't wrestle them at 106 & 113. Thanks.

This was Devos's Dad on Twitter:

"Build them a beautiful sturdy house, give them the keys and they trash it and burn it to the ground."

To which Mark Reiland replied: "I want a new house."

Michigan allows 2 entries at the same weight. Does Iowa not allow it?

Heard it's a pretty salty situation and one may not be at Waukee next year.
From what I've heard 106 was Devos' spot. For some reason they were having a best of 3 wrestle sometime before districts. Devos won the first match. During the 2nd one is when we was injured. I also heard he will not be at Waukee next year. I guess the question is why would the established starter have to beat the challenger 2 out of 3. I also noticed Biscoglia's dad in his corner so he is apparently an assistant at Waukee.

With Brody Teske at 113 (Devos's only loss on the season by the way) they both wanted the 106 lb spot to have the best chance at a state title.

Well they can avoid Teske all they want, but Drew Bennett, a sophomore, of Fort Dodge has lost twice to Biscoglia in overtime matches, both of which could've easily went the other way.

I think the question is why would there be a wrestle off at all the week before districts? The starter should have been clear by then. Bad coaching IMO.

This was the third wrestle off, with each winning one, so it wasn't the established starter. They had flip flopped between 106/113 much of the year. And Biscoglia's only loss all year was a 13-9 decision to Teske...

I want a new house also. Ranch style with no stairs since I'm getting lazier

There was a wrestle off because 2 highly talented kids wanted the same spot, end of story.

No one said they couldn't. Devoss was injured in the wrestle off and couldn't compete at districts. Bris had been wrestling at 113 and lost to Teske. I think it was like 13-9.

It sounds like both of them wanted the state championship and both felt their best shot was at 106. Looking back at results through the season it looks like Devos held the spot in all but one tournament and lost in that tourney to Teske by tech fall.

Seven pounds is a big deal for guys that size. I gave up that much weight a bunch of times as a frosh due to a kid not making weight. The guys were generally longer than me and the added weight didn't help. The next year I was able to get revenge on a couple of the kids when we were really at the same weight.

I think young TnT were in the crowd at maybe Storm Lake one of those nights. The crowd wanted a roughness call on a pancake cross face to the back for five and I like to think the pair of young hellions from Sheldon were the only ones I could hear hooting and hollering their pleasure in the stands. hehe.

You claimed they weren't big enough. If you can wrestle Teske that tough and go about 40-1 at 113 in class 3A it doesn't appear that size is an issue.

I don't get what you are saying. If he would not have been injured one of them would have wrestled 113.

I'm saying neither would be able to beat him with the size disadvantage. 7 lbs is a ton when it's almost 7% of your total weight.

Think NATO can just bump up tomorrow and beat Brewer and everyone else at 33? I highly doubt it. If he had a whole year to prepare for it? Maybe

Biscoglia went 40-1 with the majority of matches wrestling at 113. In my opinion, small or not he should have wrestled up and tried to beat Teske instead of battling his own teammate. The coaches should never have allowed wrestle offs a week before district when Devos earned the spot after Christmas and wrestled every tournament as their 106 pounder. Biscoglia had the closer match of the two with Teske, it seems like there wasn't much teamwork being displayed at all.

you hit the nail on the head. There never should have been another wrestle off. Devos beat him numerous times and had the spot secure. Bris dad is on the coaching staff and they give him a wrestle off the week of districts. Honestly, from every thing I have heard about this situation it stinks. I don't blame Devos one bit if he transfers and I hope him and Bris are at the same weight next year.

What are you basing this off?? Do you have any clue what is going on there, cause it doesn't sound like it. This same thing happened to Biscoglia last year because Allison wanted to go at 106, so Biscoglia didn't even get a chance to wrestle. His dad was there last year too, so that doesn't mean squat in this case. Was it smart by the HC, probably not, but that his call and not the first time. It's too bad Devos got hurt, but that happens and I know for a FACT that Biscoglias dad was NOT in the room for the wrestle offs and there are plenty of parents who also coach, so that is irrelevant.

I'm basing what I've said off what the coaches said at seeding meeting at a large early season tournament and from someone else who knows them both very well. Unless they are both lying I would take it as reliable info.

I don't understand why he shouldn't be allowed to wrestle Devos for the spot. Yes Biscoglia would of done good at 113 and was favored to get 2nd. But the same for Devos. They were both true 106 lbers so if they both want the 106 spot then they should have a final wrestle off for districts. Sucks that Devos got hurt but I'm sure that's not what the coaches wanted.

You said they weren't big enough for 113. The results say otherwise. That's all. I don't have a dog in the fight as to whether a kid should or shouldn't have gotten a wrestle off. I don't know or really care.

Absolutely bad coaching. When you have a parent that states, " we've been here longer, the spot should be ours" and the coach goes along with it granting more undeserving wrestle offs something is off.

One kid wrestled the whole season at one weight, the other at the higher weight. Kid at higher weight only has one loss to a monster at the weight. Kid wants to drop down to duck said monster.

I could see a wrestle off early or by the holidays but if the line up was set, why mess with it? Yes, wrestling is an individual sport but a week or two before the state qualifier? Even if Devos still lost but was not injured, Coach is putting the unproven guy up a weight class. Never see this type of outright ducking before.

The wrestle-off was 12 days before districts not the week of districts but I agree that is still not enough time for the loser to get up to a full sized 113. I think both were talented enough to get 2nd at 113 though because they both beat Midkiff in close/overtime matches this year. And both had one loss on the year- to Teske.

I just think it's very telling that Biscoglia goes undefeated the entire regular season up at 113, loses to Teske at the conference tournament and then a wrestle off takes place. Were there wrestle offs the entire season to see who would be at 106 for each tournament? Or did Biscolia think he could win it at 113 and then had second thoughts after conference?
