Had a heck of second day...that Brooks kid. Non stop offense.

Lewan just won the title, Hoffman took third.

Brooks, Kerkvleit and McHenry all in the finals. Teemer lost in the semis. Brooks and Kerk dominated.

Thanks guys! What an honor to wrestle for your country! He is excited for that and noone from Iowa has contacted us. Great program and we hope Pat does well!

Thanks for posting. Aaron is on another level this year, which is saying a lot! I have a feeling they will be contact real soon.

This is soooo disappointing to read from the Iowa angle. Unfortunately I've heard this way too often.
Just poor. Not hard for Iowa to at least contact every Fargo winner. Hire a full-time recruiting staffer to tee it up for the coaches.

Worked out when they left Gilman alone to focus on Cadet worlds.

Not even a comparison, he was in contact with them before that. It seems like we haven't even done so much as to introduce ourselves to the young man even though his dad says they like the toughness and tradition of the program. I also don't understand the lack of interest from Lewan, have we tried talking to him? Isn't he from Turk's high school. I seem to remember somebody on here saying he was an Iowa fan or something to that affect.

Because you can't do more than one thing at once? Like I said, if coaches don't like recruiting, have a recruiting staffer tee it up for them. This isn't the 1980s. You have to contact kids early. Brooks has won what, 3 Fargo titles? If a coach only want to focus on training and wrestling and not the other stuff, they should coach at the OTC.

I seem to recall we almost lost him because he thought there was no interest. Not trying to stir the pot, but others can chime in on the truth of that rumor. Maybe not the example we want to bring up. (Or, in fact, maybe it is.)
There was an article last year about this. Gilman was pissed when Clark committed and Iowa hadn't been in contact with him for a while. Gilman's high school coach called Brands to let him know that it was between Okie State and Nebraska. After that, Brands started recruiting him harder and ended up getting him.

Do not know how Kerk will make the cut to 197. Kid is huge and will only get bigger.
Kerk had a 30 pound growth spurt prior to last season. Has stayed about the same over the past year. Genetics suggest he shouldn't grow much more. Should be able to make the cut the first couple of years and then slide up to heavyweight once Gable graduates.

Believe me I have been very vocal on this staffs recruiting efforts but from what I know TNT do not spend resources on recruiting a kid who is going to OTC. IMO the horse is pulled to many directions in the OTC by too many voices and never stays the course. It works both ways. Example this is how Terry got Montell Marion from UNI.

Just my opinion and I don't blame them. I would bet if you ask Cael he would rather just have them under his watch in his room from day one too.

Now my question is who does Iowa have in the OTC room nowadays to plant that Iowa seed in the heads of these OTC kids? I kind of thought that Metcalf was going to pay dividends on these type of situations but that obviously changed when he left for Ames.

How much time does Mark Perry spend in Colorado? is it really that essential for him to be out there a lot for the HWC?

Yet we have gotten two guys direct from the OTC. I think since this is his Dad, the seed is planted. Iowa just has to put in the work.

From what I have heard, he is a huge PSU lean. Step in after Hall at 174 after a year at OTC and a redshirt year.

I am ok with that. Anytime there is a 2yr delay in getting a recruit to campus a lot can happen in the mind of a kid going from 18- 20 yrs old away from his home. Basically recruiting them twice. Same with Mormon missions. That HWT looked good in theory.

AZ Chief, I believe you missed the point. Neither Marion or Burak were committed to the staff prior to OTC. The game is come in when they are there and switch them. Brook may like PSU now but the Zeke Jones, John Smiths, Burroughs of the worlds will cycle through that room and any 18 yr old doesn't know what he doesn't know yet. A Jordan Oliver type may come in and be best buddies and ballgame. Thanks for recruiting me in highschool but I changed my mind.

So again why waste resources now on a kid for sure going to OTC. Recruit him later once he is there.
