Why does he announce this now? I think she has enough pressure on her this week with all the other awards coming in and the fact that it’s the final 4. If anyone can handle it though, it’s her. Well deserved CC #22! 👏

Retiring numbers doesn't spread across sports, does it? Like, is the number 10 unavailable for all sports because of BJ Armstrong?
Why not field hockey? Are the numbers reflective of a position or something so they can't be retired?
Isn’t the university’s new rule that any national player of the year gets their jersey retired? I believe that’s the case, so it’s not like GB announced some decision, other than confirming that the rule will be implemented in light of CC’s recent awards.
If that’s the case then I feel much better about him saying that right now.

But more importantly, Dante Eldredge is #10 on the men's team this year.

I really want Maddyn to be a Hawkeye. She would be a great fit for Lisa's offense and is already an excellent defender. She reminds me so much of K. Doyle but with more offensive skills this early in her career.
Clark wants the attention on the team as a whole, you could tell by her player of the year speech. Gary should keep these comments on hold until the tournament is over, yeesh
He’s speaking on the phone to someone else about their accomplishments paving the way for CC. This isn’t an announcement, he’s simply acknowledging the overwhelmingly likely scenario. I think this tweet is really poor form for a reporter.
Lol, hardly since there are players wearing it in EVERY Iowa sport. It may be "hanging" but its certainly NOT retired......

It will be THE jersey in Carver’s rafters. And our grandchildren will ask why it’s even bigger than all the men’s retired jerseys. And we’ll sigh, smile at them and say “Greatness isn’t a preseason, regular or conference tournament thing, you see…”
