She is a jr but doesn't she have the covid year she could use also? She just seems to love Bluder and being a Hawkeye and promoting the sport that I just think she may take advantage of every year she could get to put that Iowa uniform on. I'm guessing she would make more $ staying at Iowa with The NIL deals than turning pro and having to play over seas for half a year. If she comes back or is able to come back for 2 more years their is not many records that wont have her name on it in all of college basketball.

This is going to be unpopular, but part of me would love to see her win a natty - preferably with Iowa, but mostly likely would mean she transfers to a blue blood for a shcool
Well if she takes her covid year and counting this year she would have 3 years to win one at IOWA. The chance of her transferring to win a National title is far less than me becoming a cyclone fan and I can assure you I will never become a cyclone fan, so she will never transfer.

Her potential for income and general popularity will never be higher than it is at Iowa. While it appears that the women's game in college is gaining popularity, at least in some places, I don't see that ever happening for the WNBA.

And why does she need to transfer to win a title? Maybe there are others who would like to transfer in to play with her for the chance.

Bluder will need to be active in the portal and recruit some proven talent for Iowa to contend for national championship. The current roster I do not see the talent in the next two years. JMO

I totally agree and honestly how many fans even follow the WNBA? Clark is the biggest recruiting tool Iowa has and I believe this will surely come into play this upcomimg offseason. I would be thrilled but not shocked if she decides to use her extra covid year.

I hope she does and with the money she's making and the love she gets from fans, young and old, i wouldn't be surprised if she stayed. Why play a season in the wnba and another season overseas to make close to what she is making playing college ball. She also has the chance to up Iowa's national profile and recruiting just by playing here.

I don't know what WNBA players make, but I doubt they make as much as CC.

The best WNBA players (before considering any income overseas) can make up to $700,000 a year through bonuses and sponsorships, according to the WNBA.

Last year, Rhyne Howard was the #1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft. She earned $72,141 in her first season (before bonuses and sponsorships). This season she will earn $73,584.

For 2023, the top WNBA salary will be $234,936 (before bonuses and sponsorships).

Regarding playing overseas, what follows comes from a couple stories linked below:

The lucrative off-season for women’s professional basketball players, when they make the bulk of their income, has dried up this year due to a mix of geopolitical tensions, currency fluctuation and Covid lockdowns.

Russia is no longer an option for most players of course, but top players (Brittney Griner, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Jonquel Jones) were earning more than $1 million in Russia — nearly 4 times what they can make as a base salary in the WNBA. The 31-year-old Griner had played in Russia since 2014. China and South Korea are currently closed to WNBA players. The result? It is driving down the remaining European salaries, which are already being battered down by inflation and secondary effects from the war in Ukraine.

China, which had paid mid- and top-tiered players $50,000 to $200,000 a month for around 4 months, is banning its women’s leagues from using American players for a third-straight year.

“The moment China ceased to be an option the market immediately depressed,” said Allison Galer, founder and president of Disrupt the Game, a talent agency.

Mike Cound, president and owner of Cound Group Global, said China is closed to American players due to Covid restrictions. Heated Sino-American relations also make it hard for the players to get work visas in time to compete there.

South Korea is similarly closed to Americans due to Covid restrictions and lower demand for foreign talent, Cound said.

Turkey has emerged as the leading destination for players looking to train in the off-season. The Turkish league’s Fenerbahçe team will host a number of top-tier players this year, including Breanna Stewart, runner-up for the WNBA’s most valuable player last season. The Atlanta Dream’s Tiffany Hayes will play again for Mersin, along with Las Vegas Aces star Chelsea Gray, who just led her team to the WNBA championship, and the Connecticut Sun’s DeWanna Bonner.

While Hayes said top players can still make a “high six figures,” most of the salaries being paid by Turkish teams are a fraction of what they used to be.

A women’s salary in Turkey a few years ago could top out at around $800,000. Now, that number is closer to $350,000 or $400,000. Boris Lelchitski, chief executive officer of Sports International Group, another talent agency, has seen a 30% to 40% reduction in overseas salaries from previous years.

Now that many teams with the deepest pockets -- Russia’s Ekaterinburg and the Chinese teams -- are off the table, the next best teams don’t have to haggle as hard for premier players.

“This is driving the market down because the top teams outside of Russia don’t have to pay as much to get the best player or a good player,” Lelchitski said. “They don’t want to negotiate against themselves.”

“There’s so many things coming out of Ukraine that people all over Europe are getting hit with,” Cound said. “That includes Spain, France, Turkey. So all these teams are having economic problems to pay their salaries.”

The Turkish lira has also depreciated around 28% against the dollar this year as of Tuesday, making it tougher for the teams to pay up.

WNBA TOP players around $250k a year....the best

I would love to see her stay for 2, rake in more money, set all sorts or records, etc. Maybe when the overseas markets open up more again the WNBA dollars go up.

See 4 posts above.

I did a little research on this. Actually, as you can see, the best WNBA players (before considering any income overseas) can make up to $700,000 a year through bonuses and sponsorships, according to the WNBA.

Interesting that Russia was paying top players (Brittney Griner, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Jonquel Jones) more than $1 million and China was paying $200,000/month for around 4 months.
Not bad!

Why in the world would they be able to pay more than the WNBA? Do the governments kick in?

Who’s to say she can’t do for the NBA what she has done for college ball? I love her, but she could probably do for the WNBA what Michael Jordan did for the NBA. Her endorsement deals would probably quadruple in a market like NY or LA.

I dont think wnba players make near as much as one thinks.

Who is highest paid WNBA player? A quick showed top salary of a quarter million. I was shocked to read Griner only makes the amount below. No wonder she goes overseas and makes way more money in Russia while she can still play. WNBA must not have much for crowd sizes and a TV contract.

Yeah, another tall, center type to replace Cinzano and to go with the really good freshwomen they have. And a really good 3 type player on the wing and like you say the hawks could win it all.

Because many of the players care about equality and human rights when it involves them, but they look the other way when cash is being thrown their way.

Many of them played for Shabtai Kalmanovich and didn’t care about his past, as long as he paid well (and on time - always an issue overseas) and treated them like VIPs.

In most countries people are not distracted by American football or baseball, and NBA games are not played there, so there is more fan interest in women's basketball.

First of all if I was a parent I would advise to step back and see what is going to happen in overseas markets if that is a thought right now. Not sure I would want her setting up camp overseas with all sorts of crap going down. Next as it relates to the WNBA she will have opportunities to make great money through salary, bonus and endorsements

Now, at over a million now from Nike, HV, etc if I were advising her I would say let let this build a bit. There is no hurry. Current money is fantastic. Let Nike make you one of the faces of college bball because that will drive more value for her and the wnba team that takes her. She has the game and the fresh face that can grow quite a bit over the next couple of years.

I just hope she has some really good people in her ear that look at this the right way. She can end up being the best that women’s college bball has ever seen and the marketing power behind that means more right now than the best wnba player ever which will be tougher to achieve.

She will never earn more money, annually, playing professionally than she will with her NIL. No one GAF about pro women's hoops, no matter how it's sliced

She's the only fish in her pond here and should be able to build a nest egg to put her ahead of 99% of her age group out of college.

And good for her.

We likely only have one roster spot next year. Bluder will certainly to go the portal — I assume that’s why she is letting Warnock and Marshall move on — but unless someone transfers out, she will only have one chance to land an impact player. Hope it’s a good one.

We might also have transfers out. One or two of our 5s won't be part of our regular rotation next year. The same is probably true for our options at the 3, especially if Martin returns. Maybe all of those players want to be career Hawkeyes regardless of playing time, but some might want to explore other options too.

I think O’Grady is most at risk, and that will hurt. Maybe Goodman or Wetering if they want to do go somewhere like UNI, but they all seem pretty happy at Iowa tbh.

Jeff Linder is claiming to possibly having WBB news mid-day today. Could it be a decision on which seniors move on or stay? Seems like it was about this time last season when Bluder announced that Taiwo & Cook wouldn't be back.

ETA: Appears the news is ESPN GameDay coming to IC for the Indiana game.

It's interesting to read about women salaries in the WNBA. That could keep Clark around as long as possible, but I really think she is a paradigm shifting player for the WNBA. Maybe it's my bias showing but she will be the first female women's basketball player that will be near a household name going into the WNBA. I think her first year salary is going to be on a different level than what a number 1 draft pick typically earns. Why? She draws eyeballs to TV sets. There's a reason last night's game was the first Iowa women's basketball game not nationally televised in a couple months. People are tuning in to watch her and if she can carry that with her to the professional level, she could be the player that elevates the WNBA to a level that it hasn't been before. Or, maybe not. But if she is as fun to watch play in the WNBA as she is at the college level, she will likely be the most successful women's basketball player the WNBA has ever seen.

I’m not sure the union agreement allows for a rookie to all of a sudden jump the ranks in terms of payday. They’re very structured and highly enforced at every level.

Also, I dont think Clark is ever going to be a household name. Very few athletes are. Household names are Trump, Obama, Beyonce, Alec Baldwin, Ashton Kutcher, Brett Favre, Michael Jordan lol…. Clark may very well be the most well known WNBA star of all time in a few years but if she is a household name, she’ll have done something pretty much unthinkable. I mean, my mom lives 30 minutes from IC and doesn’t know who she is lol.

Need to do some TV commercials for national brands like Patrick Mahomes.

This could very well happen. She already has the deal with Nike and it has probably paid off for Nike with the amount of exposure she has gotten this year. But yeah, it will take more than just playing basketball to get her profile as high as it can get.

Good stuff you're hitting, order a za.

She is a great player but will do 0 for ratings outside of Iowa.

Women's hoops are watched like the XFL.

I hope she stays as long as possible and earns all the NIL she can bank.

I’m among those who have watched every CC national TV game this season. And CC is certainly moving the needle for WBB, which is great and helping grow WBB. But, for context, the WBB numbers are still really small.

The Iowa and IU game involving CC and the best non-Maryland BIG WBB team in nearly 20 years had 325,000 viewers, an all-time high for WBB on BTN, but 63,000 fewer viewers on BTN than the recent Iowa-PSU wrestling match. Last year’s MBB BIG tourney on BTN had a game that drew a record 1.19 million viewers.

She is drawing eyes nationally. If she weren't, Fox and ESPN would not be putting so many games on national TV. That said, I'm not saying that women's basketball will be comparable to men's numbers or even World Series of Poker numbers any time soon. But, if she remains healthy, remains exciting to watch, and the WNBA can market her properly she will increase the value of every franchise in the league.

I couldn't disagree with this much more. She isn't winning a natty at Iowa most likely with the lack of depth and she needs to do that to truly elevate her brand. I would transfer to UConn and team up with Paige Bueckers to try to win one or two, even if it isn't good for her individual stats.

Losing to Creighton at home in the second round does nothing for her and the New York media market is in a league of it's own, I'd guess she'd have better NIL opportunities there too. Practicing against the best with the UConn roster would have to be beneficial too. I don't think she will transfer but if I was her dad I would be bringing it up

Setting every record ever that has no chance of ever being broken has to be a factor in her decision I would think
