Call Iowa's first play of the season

I do not want the QB running on the first play. A pass down field in the 12-15 yard range or a toss sweep.

Delay of game...followed by a KF called time out...so he has time to scribble some notes on his pad and send the QB back out there again to run the RB off tackle for 1/2 yard.

Flea Flicker. CJ hands off to Daniels, Daniels flips it back to CJ, ISU bites on the run. A wide open T Smith does his thing-TOUCHDOWN!

It's nice to dream of exotic plays and bomb passes, but we all know it'll be Daniels off tackle for 4 yards. :)

7 yard hitch pass to T. Smith. This will setup a hitch and go sometime in the 3rd quarter.

1st play of the game, punt formation. Isu will think it is just ol Kirk being conservative but this is new Kirk. New Kirk is a bad ass and likes to line up in punt formation on first down just to get his punter some passing stats on the fake punt pass. Works like a charm. Just like it did in my video game experience against my brother growing up. I really got in his head with that trick.

I'd like it to be this:

But it's going to be a hand off for a three yard gain.

I think a little trickey will be the first play. GD calls the old Statue of Liberty.

false start

you know that isu is going to be stacking the los to stop the run. I would spread the field, put someone in motion, or play action... anything to confuse them right out of the gates. if ever there was year for that to happen, this would be the one.

Mark Weisman up the middle. The first 3rd down will be 3rd and 6 with a 3 yard out pattern to the short side of the field.

Fullback dive or Kirk is confused the game just started, and instead thinks the half is about to end, so he elects to have the qb take a knee to "run out the clock".

After we mess up the opening kick, similar to the bowl game, CJ boatlegs right in the enedzone, gets sacked for a safety, and tears his ACL

If memory serves me correct I think HF opened up against Indiana and the first time we lined up it looked like a normal pro set, then the shift to an empty backfield. I don't remember what the play was but the crowd got real excited in a hurry. We all knew "this is going to be fun". We need that excitement back.

Anyone of those.

My memory is good, it's just short. But I recall, that after months of anticipation of HF calling pass plays and trick plays on every down, that he called run plays the entire first series for an eventual TD. True?

anything could happen this year now that we don't have the weisman stretch right for 2 yards on the docket.

Leshun Daniels Jr. right side dive between Blythe and Walsh........Welsh pulls and Cox follows through the hole.15 yard gain......

So much for predictable. We've got it all in this thread. Iowa has opened the last 3 seasons with a pass on their 1st play. So anyone who says they know it will be a run really don't have a clue what they are talking about. They may be right, but
Everyone knows the first play will be dive left

Considering Iowa has passed on its first play of the season in 5 of the last 6 years I would say we DON'T all know it's going to be a run left/

2013 the only run on the first play of the season and it was Bullock up the gut in 2013. The last time before that was Shon Greene against Maine and he ran off left guard. So you would have made some serious cash that day.

1st play? Kickoff return out to the 40 with a holding penalty and we start at the 10

I predict a kick return.

Seriously, though, I know you're asking about our first offensive play from scrimmage. I would like to see us run a play action with Tevaun on a deep corner route with one of the TEs underneath as a secondary option. Give CJ the option of making the pass that's open or just picking up what he can with his feet. My thought is that you take advantage of a defense that's jacked up for a chance to play in a B1G stadium and is likely to try to jump the run.

I didn't get this exactly right, but the first play was pretty close to what I predicted last week. Instead of Tevaun and and a TE, it was Hillyer(?) and Vandeberg. Sorry for resurrecting a dead thread, but I wanted to puff my chest a bit. :)

I have no problems with someone saying they called it right. Where are the gurus that knew we would run the ball on 1st down? That's my question.
