Beat Iowa State in a 50/50 game?
We've only beaten ISU under Kirk if the talent disparity is huge. The only year one MIGHT convince me otherwise is 2006. But, we were a 9-win team wearing 6-6 clothes, and ISU finished the season 4-8. Keep in mind, we were down 14-3 in the first half.
We survived a late push in 2013 from a 3-9 squad. Have lost twice to ISU teams that went on to finish 2-10. If the game looks like a 50/50 game (2001, 2005, 2011, 2012), we have lost. We have lost to them with the better team (2002, 2007, 2014) It is extremely discouraging that we have never been the ones to outplay a better (or equal) ISU team. Not once.
A few weeks ago I started having this feeling that we were going to have a good season. But I just can't get it to carry over to this game.
I see so much confidence every year from a good portion of our fan base, and I don't understand it. Where does it come from?
