Can Micic Skip to Finals of Team USA Olympics 2024 Process?

I understand that he is already qualified for the 2024 Olympics as a Serbian wrestler and that USA is not qualified for the 2024 Olympics at 57kg, but what do the USA qualifying rules actually read in relation to the automatic, reserved finalist place in the USA Olympic Team process for returning World gold medalists. Does the World gold need to be earned as an athlete of the USA, or does Micic's 2023 gold for Serbia allow him to jump the USA process?

I'm guessing this has been discussed elsewhere, or in prior iterations with Amine in relation to bronze, but I missed the discussion and the answer.

I'd guess no since he didn't make the US team to earn the opportunity to compete at Worlds.

Seems the most logical.

Besides, the bye to the semis/finals system wouldn't work if we included those that competed for other countries at Worlds.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but it’s remarkable how well so many US wrestlers perform on the world stage despite not being good enough to make the US team.

It's a good thing. Russia exports like crazy. Two guys who never won a NCAA title are world finalists with one of them winning a title....second guy to go. I would say that maybe they lucked out and had an easy path but Micic's was land mine after land mine. Seabass was not challenged until the semis. Both look great. One thing they didn't have to worry about was wrestling in the open/trials/final x. Micic is a world champ but there are several guys that could trip him up at U.S. Olympic trials. Same with Seabass.

I don't really understand the question. Are you asking if Micic can sit out until the best of 3 finals to make the US team? No.

Micic is not an American wrestler under the eyes of UWW. He is Serbian and can only wrestle for Serbia unless he were to transfer again. He would have to sit out a few years to do that and miss 2024 (if he even got it approved somehow). In UWW's eyes, this is like asking if Sidakov just locked up his spot in Final X.

You can't jump back and forth if you don't make the team. Once you transfer, you're no longer a part of the US team process. Guys like Micic, Rivera, Gomez, etc...have chosen to wrestle for other countries permanently.

Dance with the partner who brought you. He’s a Serbian world champ. That means something to that country.

Lol Not permanently. Just for the cycle.

I think you're only allowed one change.

Micic wrestled for team USA at 2014 JR Worlds, he used his one change to switch from US to Serbia. He's with Serbia permanently.

-------
A wrestler may participate in a competition only under the nationality appearing on his license. If, at any time, it is determined by UWW that the statement was false and that fraud occurred, the disciplinary measures provided for to this end will be immediately applied against the National Federation, the wrestler and the person whose signature appears on the fraudulent certificate. Wrestlers who wish to change their nationality must refer to the procedure described in the International Regulations for the change of nationality. Wrestlers can change their nationality only once. Once the procedure for the change of nationality is completed they are not entitled to compete for their former country anymore or for any other country in a UWW official competition.

Thank you, @LaxHawk174. Precisely the rules I wanted to read, but did not know where to efficiently locate. Also, thank you for the Micic-specific transfer history.
