CC has demonstrated great maturity in all public response to the behavior of LSU's ladies.

Maybe Iowa fans could please follow her lead and just "turn the other cheek" as Jesus did over 2000 years ago as we Christians and Jews celebrate Holy Week?

I admire CC, Lisa and the whole team and staff for their refusal to be drawn down in the mud.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion in this free country but maybe we should move on like Caitlin. I don't think she wants to play the victim role.
Go Hawks!

One step forward (posting about maturity), then one step back (posting about religious beliefs)…

Eliminate this portion of your input and I’m all in.

she's a competitor and a smart one. What she is saying to her friends is going to be different that what she says in public.
Everything is fair game on a message board.

We should all move on. But I’m not going to let anyone’s opinion (Caitlin, Reese, whomever) influence how I feel about the situation. If you were only upset because of Caitlin or her feelings, then to me, that’s part of the problem. And iowa has handled this all with grace and class.

so are you saying that "people that look like me" is ok? If so, then i think you are part of the problem.
I don't really care how caitlin feels, i think stupid should be criticized and pointed out.

I never said that. I think you and I can look at this the same. Sounds like you and I can come to our own conclusions and look at what happened. If the teams and situations were reversed, I’d bet you and I would have the same feelings.

While I agree, just a point to add. There was a story posted today, (I believe by the gazette). It popped up on my phone. In it Clark said she bears no ill will toward Reese, and she is a great player. She also said that she never actually saw what gesture Reese made to her. Okay then. Everyone saw her turn away from Resse at the free throw line and THREE seperate times as she walked off the floor, so no. First off Clark has done a Great job handling this mess. Fantastic. But anyone who really believes that a serious Type A competitor like Clark is okay with this is kidding themselves. What she is, is smart, and she has her mom (who retired to help CC run her affairs) and I think was in marketing or business, and no doubt other advisors. This is ALL about image and brand management at this point. Her play in the tournament in full view of the whole nation backed up her legend status, and now this is a chance for her to take the high road, and secure an even higher level of support and growth of "her brand". While Reese wallows below, and pigeon holes herself into a small demographic, Clarks popularity only grows. Just as what Reese is doing even today on social media is entirely calculated, you can bet so is what Clark is doing. She will rose above this regardless of what others say about this.
The final hand over the face gesture, (you can't see me). will be Clarks, because she'll be so far ahead of the position that Reese is digging into that she'll no longer be able to even see Clark in the distance.

I am still on this discussion when it is time to point out childish actions, mean actions, etc. Bluder, Clark and the hawks have been great.

But I think kids especially need to see some of these actions as bad, the stalking , the running of the mouth, the saying you are disrespected when maybe not. Kids also need to see the good way to handle this.

And I am basically a turn the other cheek type of person. But I also think really negative behavior needs to be called out.

Well said. Caitlin has a very bright future after her playing days are over.

Behind the scenes I'm assuming she is pissed at what transpired and will hopefully use it as motivation. I also guess that she is getting loads of supportive messages from players around the country.

Caitlin is smart about her basketball future too. In a couple o years she’s going to be playing in the WNBA. If she reacts to the crap at this level she knows what it will be like at the next level. Better to go in with as little baggage as possible.

I think the reaction we are seeing comes from having maybe the older generation having a sense of right and wrong and the proper way to handle things with class, whether it be winning or losing.
It's a culmination of the way society has become IMO. The self-centered attitudes of people anymore are on full display in every facet of life. It's sad actually.
Anyone with any sense can see the difference between what CC did and what AR did on Sunday. Showboating around and actively seeking out another player is bush league. Clark didn't parade around and try to embarrass any one player. She did it going to the bench and that's the major difference here.
I know Clark is taking the high road and letting it go but again this is a generational thing and in this case it seems LSU and SC trying to ignite a social issue like racism into the discussion is really sh!tty.
I don't know. Maybe I'm not making sense but overall, to me it's just another indication that the world has just lost their damn minds in so many areas. It just takes the joy out of everything

Ironically, your parents and grandparents, my parents and grandparents mostly said the exact same things about us. That is one constant in life.

I'm sure that's true to a degree but they didn't have to put up with the social media bullsh!t we have to deal with today. I'm only 50 but it feels like I am the last generation that had some sense of normalcy before the internet, cell phones and social media just destroyed everything.

As has been previously stated in various forms, I think the CC group(parents etc) are aware of the NIL ramifications to this controversy.

I fully expect she at least triples her endorsement deals in the next few months.
Which also leads me to believe she stays for that extra season.

Just remember your great grandparents might not have had a car, a phone, electricity., indoor plumbing. Your parents might not have had a TV growing up, if they did it was only a few channels. Things change pretty rapidly for every generation. The thing we thought were normal were quite different than the generation prior to.

And a question. Why do you choose to pay much attention to social media? That is by choice, you are not forced to. Quit reading this board, quit having facebook, quit watching realty TV. How are the actions you see on social media actually a harm to you, other than you become annoyed by it?

At this point, you almost have to laugh at the stupidity of people. I have seen plenty of people act like waving off a wide open shooter and daring her to shoot is beyond the pale. I saw another person comment when told that CC's hand gesture was directed towards her coach, reply to say that it is wrong to taunt your coach too.

I actually don't do very much of it. No twitter, no Instagram, no tik Tok,
It's not possible to completely disconnect, but I do my best.
I still remember when you could actually have an intelligent conversation with a person not too long ago.
That's another thing that's disappeared.
It's if you dont agree with me you are my enemy. Sign of the times I suppose.

Excellent thoughts.

I agree it’s impossible to completely disconnect as it will inevitably be on the news channel one prefers. It comes up in books, online news sites.

Your last point is quite evident on this site at times. I’ve never understood the need to get so worked up when people disagree with each other. I suppose another change in life.

You might enjoy subscribing to the Daily Stoic. Give it a try if you like and let me know.

Is there something better to discuss in the news (especially in sports?)

Clark is a lot like Michael Jordan. The best player and a bit of swagger. Clark and MJ dished it out a bit. MJ never lost in the finals but if someone had beaten him, they would’ve swaggered back tenfold. That’s what happened to Clark.

Of course Reese went a good bit further than I preferred, but everybody, especially Clark, knew it was coming. She took her medicine, shrugged her shoulders and is ready to go on another run.

Who was the last championship team that DIDN’T talk about being disrespected? LSU seemed to fabricate it but it worked.

I’m afraid this is a classic overreaction post to an honest view on taking the high road and how a religious belief formulates ones morality. If you don’t like it just move on.
This is what is wrong with social media.😟

Hawkeye baseball.
MLB
NBA
Spring FB
Recruiting

Just my opinion.
But carry on.
The drama of Clark/Reese will diminish but it’s still being discussed on national media. I’m not that interested in the other topics mentioned until closer to football unless the Hawkeye baseball team makes some noise.

If CC read all of these threads about her and Reese she would post TIME TO MOVE ON!
