Canzeri........

Is any one else feel the way I do when I say that I would rather stick with the running backs we are using now instead of canzeri?

Daniels was brought back way too early and it showed, I want Canzeri back, I guess some find it easy to forget just how well he has been running the ball this year since Wadley has been doing well. But I think it's wise to make sure he is fully healed, The Hawks have had the luxury of depth at RB this year and it's been huge plus for the team. A healthy Canzeri will be big for the stretch run, he has been an excellent back this year.

I don't want Canzeri back until he is at, or close to 100%. We saw how ineffective Daniels was this year when he tried to comeback too early. And last year we saw Canzeri struggle through nagging injuries the entire season which limited his effectiveness. The fact that we have Wadley, Daniels, and Mitchell at our disposal is a luxury and should be leveraged until Canzeri is fully healed.

Once Canzeri is back I think he and Wadley should get the most snaps of all our RB's.

We have options at runningback for the first time in years and if it takes sitting an extra week to come back healthy, I think it's well worth it. We are going to need all four if we hope to win out and claim the West.

Canzeri has done a good job. Does a nice job picking up the blitz, swing passes and running. I think that specifically running the ball Wadley has better upside, but unfortunately there's more to it than that so gotta go with the senior here.

Of course it would be great to have Canzeri back. Of course he would see the field. It's been great to have other options.
They'll wait until he's absolutely ready to go.

Need him back, for sure, but I honestly don't think Canzeri houses the run Wadley made yesterday. That cut to the outside was so quick, you almost forget that it was also pretty special.

Tough call for the coaches.

He looked like he was having a hard time pushing off that ankle in warmups. He's cleared, but he isn't 100% from what I saw. If he was forced into action, he probably could've played, but when you have 3 guys healthy no reason to push it.

Canzeri is our best all-around back. I still would like to see Daniels come in on 3rd and short plays. Mitchell is a good option for that as well. Wadley has proved he can make plays with his feet though and you gotta keep getting him involved.

Another thing I'll add is that Mitchell had a pretty good game blocking out of the backfield, as I mentioned in one of the thirty Beathard threads.....

That will definitely earn you more snaps on the field with this staff.

Unlike past years, whatever the coaches are doing with RB rotation this year is working. They are not allowing their run game to be keyed upon solely based on personnel because all of our backs are so much more versatile than Weisman. Daniels is the big back but he can run the whole 'route tree' of run plays. All of them except maybe Daniels can be a receiving threat out of the backfield and we now have a QB that can throw routes over 10 yards. Canzeri's game is based on speed and quickness, and if the coaches don't think he has it fully back yet, it's better to error on the side of caution, especially when considering his size.

Canzeri and Mitchell are clearly the RB's that KF feels the most comfortable passing to, so expect to see more screens and swing passes and maybe wheel routes when Jordan returns. That's what we miss when the RB's are Wadley and Daniels, as good as they have looked recently.

Here is how I would like to see carries shake out:

Canzeri - start and receive 15-18
Wadley -10-12 carries to keep Canzeri fresh in normal run situations (1st and 10, 2nd and mid)
Daniels - 8-12 carries in short yardage
Mitchell - Spot carries and 3-6 targets on 3rd and long or off schedule downs (1st &20, etc)

This rotation would keep Canzeri fresh, still give Wadley shots for big plays while limiting his exposure for fumbles and allowing Daniels to focus on bullying defenses with his size.

I think Wadley is a superstar in the making and the most talented back that we have. Canzeri is a slight drop off in talent, but a boost in ball security/blitz pickup/receiving. I think Akrum needs to be the lead dog from here on out if he's healthy.

Uhhhh....Canzeri rushed for over 240 yards against Illinois this season. Yeah he sucks.

If you are saying that in response to me then you suck. I never criticized Canzeri. I would just rather have a big play back like Wadley taking most of the carries

I'm happy we have multiple options at RB, Wadley is more the big play guy, Canzeri is our best all around back, and Daniels is our power back we can use to get those short yards and pound a defense late in the game.

Our offense has been good this year, but just imagine if Duzey and Smith could have been healthy all year and jerminic smith could develop a tad more we could be a very good offense.

I think Canzeri was every bit as powerful on short yardage as Daniels has been. And I think Daniels is doing OK. Canzeri is a multi-threat back, the only one we have really.

He runs hard, runs fairly fast, blocks well, and catches passes very well. He's the guy I want if I have to choose (but get Wadley in for 10-15 carries just for the hell of it.........;)).

Here's the answer...

Iowa has four backs with different skills sets. There are things that each one can do, and to use all of that on a consistent basis will help, and not in the obvious way. Remember, as an opponent prepares for their game, they must look at match ups and abilities of the skills players. If Iowa has four different types of RB to throw at you, you have to take time and effort to prepare for all four. There's only so much time in a day. So I say use all of them at different times in the game, depending on what the situation dictates.

Yep. Having 4 RB's with good skill sets is a luxury that we seldom have. It's one of the main reasons we are sitting at 9-0.
