Iowa
The hands down story of the year in college football. KF was clearly on the hottest of hot seats and team, well they looked as though they hardly knew if they were coming or going. Look where he and the Hawks are now, #5 in the college football playoff rankings. Truly amazing turn of events. Is there a contract extension in the making? ?

I liked where Iowa was before. I don't think that Iowa deserves to be at #5 yet until we win more games. I'd much rather look back at things in wonder from the vantage of having 12-0 behind us ... rather than still having three treacherous games still looming ahead of us.

One game at a time baby!

Well, that's hard to do when there are not more than 4 teams in college football that have a better resume than Iowa. Sorry, bud.

yeaahhhhh... when only the top 4 are getting in I'd rather be at 5th than 9th.

I hear you. But I'll take 5.

Nah, best story of the year is how DEEP and POWERFUL the SEC is this year. I mean looks no further than Alabama, LSU, Florida, Ole Miss, etc. They are by far the story of the year! Add Clemson in there and not sure how anything else matters in college football.

I agree. The SEC you should probably be a division in the NFL.

Sure ... but A LOT of football has yet to be played. There is still going to be plenty of movement in the rankings through the coming weeks. The Big 12 teams are likely going to smack each other around - likely out of playoff contention anyhow. Oddly enough, the Big 12 doesn't present a very varied style of football. Once they get acclimated to playing each other, then that doesn't always translate well to playing against other styles.

Stanford and Notre Dame would knock one of the other out of contention.

And, while they're longer shots .... North Carolina has a chance to beat Clemson and Florida has a chance to beat Alabama (just like Iowa has a chance to beat Ohio State).

Heck, Ohio State still needs to get past Michigan State and Michigan ... before they even get into the Big 10 championship. So yeah ... there's still a ton of football yet to be played!

Whether I agree or disagree with you depends on what you mean by "deserve".

If you use "deserve" in the sense of believing that Iowa is one of the 5 best teams in the country, then I agree with you. Based on how good I think Iowa is, I'd rank them somewhere around 10-15. That will change if Iowa proves they can beat an elite team. We have beaten good teams (NW, Wisconsin, Pitt), but we won't have faced an elite team until the Big 10 Championship (if we get there).

However, I think this Iowa team "deserves" to be ranked 2nd in the country based on a simple criteria: (1) look at all undefeated teams from P5 conferences, (2) sort by strength-of-schedule. Based on this ranking criteria, I believe only Clemson "deserves" to be ranked ahead of Iowa.

Let's not start crowing yet. Let's see the results after all of the bowl games where the Big 10 is at.
You mean let's wait until the B1G teams have to go play the SEC teams in SEC country? We'll probably see Michigan State or Wisconsin have to play Florida in Florida. The bowl setups favor the crybaby SEC and the B1G is the only conference that steps up to take them on.

As some of these teams behind us get to meat of their schedule they will move ahead of us until we end up undefeated

It is fun to look at this stuff and make guesses or cheer for different teams. But I am in the Ferentz camp through all this. The only number that matters this week is "10". I don't mean Bo Derek either, but 10-0. We do that, then we focus on "11". Of course, with that said, it sure is damn fun being a Hawk fan this year!!!!!!!!!

I saw Herbie today saying that the job Jim McElwain is doing at Florida is nothing short of a miracle and should be hands down coach of the year.

Hmm. I smell "the ESPN company line" right there.

BLACK & YELLOW BLACK & YELLOW!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO
You are dead right on this. 10-0 is the only thing that matters. This is even more fun than when we did it on 2009. GO HAWKS!

The committee is rewarding Iowa for the schedule they have played so far and also setting it up so that if Ohio State and Iowa meet in the championship and are undefeated than Iowa will be in the playoffs with Clemson, Alabama and Notre Dame.
