Carver Ticket - Season Ticket Holders

No, I know they are on there. But you can get $5 tickets up top right now for tonights game. So my family of four could just buy them for $30 total. Stubhub, after fees and everything, $71. They aren't selling these, they are just going to sit empty. Which is sad. Wish there was some way we hawkeye fans could work together somewhere, to exchange non-used bball tickets for free, if they are just going to sit empty, especially for these early season games.

Tickets are $15/adult and $5/students through the university, unless there is pricing I’m unaware of.

The SIU game was cheaper to go through stubhub with fees and better seats. There were several midcourt seats for $6 (before $3 fees), although I only looked for two together, not four. Other games in years past, it was better to go through the ticket office. Just depends on the game.

Or log onto Stubhub and see what didn’t sell and then sit in those seats.

There’s nothing really fan-friendly about the basketball experience at Iowa. Parking can be a challenge, seats are tight and uncomfortable and the staff isn’t friendly or helpful. At least the 30 minute wait for ice cream is somewhat fulfilling.

I agree that CHA can be loud and awesome.

However, having a 15K arena is too much for the times imo. Way too many variables go into getting that place sold out (on top of having a quality product).

Remodel Carver...knock seating down to 12K or so...Barta gets paid a lot of money to figure out such things as getting people there and getting the environment a true home court advantage.

Obviously step one is win. That isn't happening any time soon so he best get creative.
Why would you spend another dime on Carver? Find some creative financial people from the University and City and get a 12,000 seat arena downtown.

Not sure if they still do it but starting a few years ago, Georgia made it where after the under 12 timeout (I think) any open seat was free to take. They wanted the lower half full and that's how it should be. Now, I'm not sure what you do if you run to the concessions or stands during that time.

Seats are tight and uncomfortable? That one I don't get at all. I've been in other arenas with much less comfortable seating than Carver.

I agree, I've been to a couple games where the atmosphere was awesome, loud as hell. Rewatched the game on TV, and sounded about 1/10th as loud as it was in person. Really weird. I still as just confused as to why people would buy season tickets, then just not go to games. If that's the case, how do we get these people to give away their tickets in order to help the atmosphere?
I can't go to 17 games. When I can't go, I give my tickets away on the radio. I buy the season tickets because I like my seats and I want to help support the kids and the program.

A couple of years ago I had family in town and we purchased one of the family packs or whatever they are called. Ticket, beverage and hot dog for a family of 4 if memory serves. Went up before halftime with my nephew to get the hot dog and beverage and were told 'Out of hot dogs because they only ordered ____ amount'. This was a sparsely attended non-conference game so this came as a surprise. I asked if they would substitute popcorn. Answer was no.

Had I gone up with 5 minutes left in the game, totally understand why I would get this response. I think whoever runs the show believes in stepping over dollars to pick up dimes. Instead of thinking 'The more people that we get in the door the more concessions we sell' they are focused on some sacred cow ticket price.

Just out of curiosity, what do women's hoops tickets go for? Don't they have super cheap tickets for some / all games?

That would actually really piss me off just on principle. I remember the 4 for $44 pack (or something similar). If you advertise it, promote it, at least have it in stock. These promotions are early enough in the season so there are home games left if dogs go unused. At the very least substitute it for an item of similar value.

I remember the dollar dog nights at CHA. They would be gone before the 10 minute mark of the first half. I could be wrong here, but I don’t remember seeing many promotions last year. Either way, that’s certainly no way to conduct business when you’re trying to get folks in the door and come back.

The Carver experience has gotten a little better IMO. They seem to have stopped the cavity searches to ensure some terrorist isn't smuggling in a bottle of Hy-Vee water and bag of M&M's and have added some concession options. T

To me it's like going to a garage sale and seeing retail prices on everything. The market has signaled that the price point exceeds the value derived from the experience. Get creative and run some legitimate promotions or go the women's route and tarp off the top third and tell people to move down after opening tip.

Final point. I think it is pathetic to make jokes about the senior citizens who attend the games. These folks have a lot more excuses than the rest of us not to go, but they show up rain, snow or shine.

LOL at CHA location being an issue. It's a 5-minute walk further from campus than Kinnick. There are free buses that run every 15 minutes from the east side of campus to CHAs front door. CHA's location is not an issue...it's an excuse. The product on the floor and the lack of any tradition of fan support for the last 25 years is the issue. If the hawks can put together a winning team that plays a fun and exciting brand of basketball, the atmosphere in CHA will take care of itself.

There's been multiple winning teams under Fran that play a fun and exciting brand of basketball and the fans still haven't shown up.

To rebuild a fan culture that has been indifferent for a couple of decades, it's going to take more than one or two years of decent basketball.

Agree. People will show up when better is seen vs. talked about by Fran. I don't think it helps his case when he makes statements like 'This is a team that can compete regionally and nationally' and then they get smoked by DePaul. The free pass years are over for Fran IMO. I don't want to hear about who graduated / left because every program deals with that and it's not like we lost a first round draft pick.
