Try to look not gay in Orange City. They will attempt conversion therapy on you. Pretend you are brothers who are cheap when checking in.Anyone been? We’ll be in Omaha for 1 night next Friday and this was recommended as a “non-corporate” decent steak house. Oh yeah, we’ll also be in Orange City, IA before that. 1 king bed at the Hampton Inn.
Cascios is ok. I’d pick The Drover over Cascios 100% of the time. Both have an old school feel to them. That’s not where I’d go. Drover would be my choice
I should have asked here first! But because of who recommended it, I have to stick with Cascio's. With my better half's family now mostly living in Orange City, there will be more Omaha trips in our future and next time will be Drover.Cascios is ok. I just checked. Orange City has a Pizza Ranch. You’re good.I should have asked here first! But because of who recommended it, I have to stick with Cascio's. With my better half's family now mostly living in Orange City, there will be more Omaha trips in our future and next time will be Drover.
Never been... will have to check it so I can be up on HROT culture, I have been to Casey's.I just checked. Orange City has a Pizza Ranch. You’re good.

I think the drover is the local flavor steak house, although I've never been there.Anyone been? We’ll be in Omaha for 1 night next Friday and this was recommended as a “non-corporate” decent steak house. Oh yeah, we’ll also be in Orange City, IA before that. 1 king bed at the Hampton Inn.
Have you ever had 801 chophouse? https://801chophouse.com/My experience at the Drover was very VERY subpar. It was part of a long driving trip through multiple states, leaving from Tally going up through Bama up to Nebraska over to Wyoming then down through Colorado and over through Kansas to Kansas City MO then down to Arkansas to visit relatives before cutting through Memphis and the Mississippi Delta then back to Tally. And we ate steak at a NUMBER of restaurants in addition to the Drover. We had steak at the Conestoga in Dothan AL then the Drover in Omaha, followed by steaks at Pokey’s BBQ in Gillette Wyoming (despite the name it’s mostly a game meat and steakhouse and really an illicit casino where locals openly and very loudly gamble cards and dice games for money….I highly recommend it), the Rib & Chophouse in Cheyenne Wyoming, then the Buckhorn Exchange in Denver before we ate at an outpost of Doe’s Eat Place in Ft Smith Arkansa rather than the Delta original so when in Mississippi we went to the Delta Meat Market in Cleveland MS and Sully’s Steakhouse in Hattiesburg MS.
Unfortunately, we were most excited to eat at the Drover as it was hyped up here and we had enjoyed an amazing group of steaks at the Omaha Prime in Omaha during Mike Martin Seniors last year. Instead it was an overpriced low grade steak cooked poorly with an 80s brass salad bar in a dank, furry carpeted restaurant probably full of mildew and mold. Terrible ambiance, terrible steaks and terrible vibe.
I can’t claim to be an expert on Omaha steakhouses as that’s the only two I went to, but I’d give Omaha Prime a 9/10 and Drover a 3/10 and I’m being generous. In case you think I have to have ultra high end steaks and ultra high end experiences…three of my top ten favorite places for steaks are low brow just with amazingly delicious steaks (Taranto’s Crawfish outside of Biloxi MS, McGuires Irish Pub in Pensacola FL and Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in OKC), plus we ate at the low brow Conestoga steakhouse in Dothan AL and Pokey’s BBQ in Gillette WY and both were twenty times better than the Drover. And we got one ribeye plain and one dunked in their whiskey glaze/sauce and both were terrible. And by terrible I mean on par with your neighbor’s Winn Dixie steak on a Weber done while he’s drunk…not exactly high class.
So in summation…I enjoyed Omaha Prime in downtown Omaha as it was a pretty solid steak in a pleasant “standard high end date night steakplace” kind of ambiance and vibe. The Drover, on the other hand, was a low rent POS serving steaks that matched the cheap and rundown physical location rather than rising above it like real cult steak places like the Original Doe’s Eat Place, McGuires Irish Pub and Taranto’s Crawfish.
BTW for anyone wondering, the best steaks of the trip I described was the Rib and Chophouse. It’s a decently large chain considering it’s only in Wyoming and Montana (maybe Colorado as well) but it is excellent.
Strange but this is kind of what I'm looking for... BUT with a better steak. Fingers crossed for Cascio's...an 80s brass salad bar in a dank, furry carpeted restaurant probably full of mildew and mold
I would add that I had similar disappointment when I ate at Archie's Waeside in Le Mars, much to the ire of many posters here...My experience at the Drover was very VERY subpar. I’ve been there. Good, but I’ll take Spencer’s and Mahogany over 801.Have you ever had 801 chophouse? https://801chophouse.com/
It is a small chain and I believe considered to be the best in Des Moines. I was curious how you think it racked and stacked.
