Casey's Pizza

Wait. Serious question. That IS Casey's pizza, right? What do you mean what's wrong with it? I always think doughy crust but maybe you're talking extreme here.

Have you tried it recently? The crust is, well, terrible and sadly terribly consistent.

I had their regular crust in December. For gas station pizza, it was pretty good. If you have a slice or two every once in a while and it hasn’t been sitting in the turny thing for too long, it is ok.

If you know good pizza and can make your own, I agree it is pretty disappointing. I’m also going to guess that, like with most things corporate America, the quality used to be much higher and the price was much lower.

Try the thin crust. You can eat the whole pizza but it's better than the dough ball

I too like the thin crust.

In initial clinical trials with my stomach, it appears to lessen the prevalence of explosive diarrhea as compared to the normal aforementioned "doughy" crust.

Have you been tested for celiac disease?

Eh.....I am generally "healthy".....if I am being honest with myself, its probably less about the Casey's pizza and more to do with the Black Velvet and/or Busch Light that accompanies the consumption of Casey's pizza......that and eating way too much of it at one sitting......and not being a 20-something college kid anymore.

Varies. Our local Casey’s use to make the worst taco pizza.
We have had this discussion before but it blows my mind at the apparent difference between Casey's franchisees. That is supposed to the whole point of a franchise: standards and precision. Notice I did not say quality, I said precision. Making the same thing the same way, over and over again, to whatever the applicable standard is. For reference, McDonald's is the top of the heap in terms of precision. Virtually everything is almost always the same, wherever you go in the country.

A couple months ago my fiance (no pics) said she was craving taco pizza, so we ordered one from the Casey's down the street. When we got it, they didn't put any tomatoes or taco chips on it at all. She was not happy. Now we know to just get Godfathers for taco pizza/csb

You buried the lede. There is still a functioning Godfather's in Iowa?

Casey uses those roller ovens. They need to be in there for the exact right amount of time. I have seen some stores when they get busy will start the pizza halfway into the oven or pull it out too early. This will leave it doughy and not cooked appropriately.

Casey’s is hit or miss. It depends entirely on the store, who’s making it, and what time. I’ve learned that if you get to a store with a lot of foot traffic and it’s around 11:30am, the rotators will be full of decent sized slices that are well cooked.

If you go in at 1:30pm (after the lunch rush) you’re going to be disappointed by what’s in there. Usually it’s slices that are small, thin, and old….yet they’ll still charge you $3.39/slice.

Gotta time it right otherwise you’re going to come away disappointed…and hungry.

Same with Happy Joe’s around here.

The Bettendorf one has nearly inedible, crappy taco pizza.

The Rock Island one tastes the same way it did (fantastic!) in 1995.

Wait a minute, the Rock Island one is better???? Since 1989, I have only ever had Bettendorf Happy Joe's. Have I been missing out for the past 35 years?

I’m telling you, once you have the OG version again from the one on 30th Street in Rock Island you will never eat the slop from Bettendorf again.

Pro-tip: go to Radicle Effect Brewery which is across three street from the Happy Joes over there and they will deliver it to your table while you drink delicious locally brewed beer.

Duly noted for next time I am back in town.

just to continue the conversation about shitty fast food weve been having, I was on the road and just walked into a subway the other day, they brought back honey oat bread. It’s still an overpriced sandwich but that was a nice surprise.

Rock Island
Moline
Coal Valley
Bettendorf
East Moline

From best to worst of the ones I have been to recently-ish.

Subway is the Miller Lite of sub places/that is all

I totally understand grabbing a slice out of convenience but the people who order full pizzas, is it because that's the only option nearby or is Casey's preferred over your local options or even the other national chains?

I had a pretty good Taco Pizza at the Kewanee Happy Joe's. The building, however, is a disaster. They were remodeling half of it. The other half didn't have insulated windows and you could feel the 30 degree temperature from outside while sitting in the booth.

For us, it's convenience. I can be at the Casey's down the street in less than 60 seconds. It beats paying for delivery and all that nonsense from other places around town.

With that said, we don't really get Casey's often but when we do, that's why.

Same.

I’ve also found that throwing it in the air fryer for an extra 5 minutes at 375 helps
With the doughy crust issue.
