If Iowa wants to stay among the top of the Big Ten they're going to need to have a consistently big effort from their seniors Adam Woodbury and Jarrod Uthoff. But the bus doesn't stop there. From among the young but talented roster depth, another player or two is going to have to provide some offensive relief. It's fair to say by now that we know what we are going to get on the defensive end from a McCaffery coached team. Long, athletic, scrappy and more than likely a Top-30 unit as a whole. That's a constant at this point. But offensively, consistency is key and will be the deciding factor on if Iowa can be a sleeping conference contender or just another middle-tiered team.

I think that Jok is the pivotal player for us. Get half of what we thought he was going to be coming out of high school and we are formidable. If he continues to be the shell of player he was and can't get his head on right, we probably are middle of the pack in the BIG and only a maybe for the NCAA's. I think he's much better this year and he is a difference maker this season.

A nice skimming the surface kind of article, which in the end captures what I think is an accurate view as to the Hawkeye needs and chances in the Big Ten.

Nice that we are well into September and the long wait is down to just two months.

This is another way of saying a question Hawkeyes have been asking all off-season: how do we replace White's offense? Further, how we get offense when the big scorer(s) aren't scoring? JU is the big offensive hope, almost assumed at this point. Woody, MG, Jok are all expected to take steps forward. Fleming I expect to make a Jeff Moe-like impact, similar to the impact I expect Hutton to make in the frontcourt. One player this article surprisingly left out is Isaiah Moss. Depending on how fast he adapts to missing the summer, he could be a wind down the clock offensive force, which is what I think the article is really looking for. I expect MG to be more creative at the end of possessions as well. It's getting close to the time when we'll see how many expectations will materialize.

Yes, the article didn't mention him either. It's good to have options, but difficult to see how it's all going to fit together.

As long as Fran sees the puzzle fitting together, which I'm guessing he does, there is no difficulty.

Dale Jone's contributions is also big from outside and inside.
I can't remember where I read it, but I thought I saw that McCaffery made some sort of comment that Jones' time on the floor may be a reflection of his defense and rebounding as much as anything. Maybe I'm reading too much into a statement that I'm not even sure I'm remembering correctly :eek:o_O

That's pretty much what Fran said about Jones and his PT. Of course, everyone's PT is related to their performance, but Fran made it pretty clear that Jones' is tied to these two skills: rebounding and shooting.
