So, Iowa is in a desperate budgetary situation? How did Governor Reynolds let this happen?Nonsense. We all have budgetary constraints. Schools are no exception.
It appears you don't know what deflect means.Don't deflect.
Garry… before Branstad and Republicans took over Iowa was rated #1 or #2 (behind Wisconsin) in quality of public school education… The Iowa GOP has dedicated the past 40+ years to degrading the qualifying Iowa public school education in favor of tax cuts fir the rich and using Iowa tax dollars for private school education. Underfunding the entire scope of public education (K-12 and regent schools) has been a well planned and crafted assault by “the right” of Iowa. Those who have supported Branstad and Reynolds should ashamed of their work….and their legacy to Iowa youth. To be fair, Iowa still ranks as one of the better states (11th in 2024) in the country as far as education goes according to USNews. Our children are receiving a good education and we are getting good bang for our buck.
With that said, this shouldn’t be a GOP versus Dem battle. As an Iowan, we should not skimp on our children’s education. I will typically side with Democrats on education spending in Iowa. I don’t think they were asking too much with a 5% increase.
How can Iowa be constrained “financially” unless it is by intent? Iowa has chosen NOT to adequately finance its public schools for the Branstad and Reynolds administrations. They have decided to cut taxes for their rich friends and corporate entities and aid their rich friends who want to send their kids to private schools. So, Iowa is in a desperate budgetary situation? How did Governor Reynolds let this happen?

Watch out Mississippi! Watch out Arkansas! Here comes Ioway!

You know the teachers unions were around when Iowa ranked much higher? You know the states ranked in the top 5 all have unions, right?Thank the teacher unions.
Agreed. I asked my wife this evening if class sizes were the problem or the behavior of her class was the problem.Because we have to have kids that have 1 adult with them the entire day. the rise is 99% in paras.
To let you in on a little secret.... Those paras are needed because of piss poor parents more often then not. Little johnny has to have a 1-1 to keep him in line so he doesn't ruin the class for everyone. That # has gone up because parents don't discipline their children.
again, you don't have a clue.
They were around then, but they've gotten 10 times more entitled since then. You know the teachers unions were around when Iowa ranked much higher? You know the states ranked in the top 5 all have unions, right?
