Christmas lights in January

There was a window for me to take my decorations down after New Year's, but I was knocked out with illness and now am too lazy to do anything with them. Might as well leave them up until August 1st at this point.

By January 22nd, they should probably come down, right? And all the inflatables in the front yard?
For sure.
My neighbor went out of town for the holidays and just came back this weekend. She went and forgot about the lights her landscaper had wrapped her palm trees with and they were on an auto timer. They stopped being pretty around the 5th of January. Just down two days ago.
BTW have y’all gotten your light bills yet for last month? 😳 Mine went up by $80 and December wasn’t very cold here - most of that was my Christmas lights.

I don't believe that inflatibles should be allowed ever so having them up now should lead to permanent banishment.
My son is one of those whose front yard is literally COVERED with inflatables from about September 15 through NYD - first with Halloween and the Christmas. I’m not exaggerating when I say the only space not covered is a blow up Santa sleigh and reindeer on his roof but he’s shopping for those for next year. His is the house people drive by at night on purpose.
The kids are 10 and 8 and when they get older the sad truth will come out that HE is the kid. 🤗

It drives my wife nuts, she'd knock on doors telling people they were losers if I didn't ask her not to. There have been plenty of chances to take them down since Christmas, just a lot of lazy people out there.

My lights always come down on December 26th. They also dont get turned on until Thanksgiving night. If i want to go look at lights I just go to Menards!!

Does she make you put yours up and have them on before thanksgiving? Does she also call those people losers that do?

Oh no, no lights on before Thanksgiving, the trees go up after Thanksgiving, lights are on until the day after Christmas. Christmas trees come down the day after Christmas.

There are rules that the losers don't follow.

Mine are still up. But the back door was froze for a week and a half and I didn't feel like walking around the house and up the deck stairs in the 2 foot drifts to unplug them. Gonna try tonight. Or not. Fudge you guys.

if memory serves, the technical/catholic answer is feast of the presentation, 2/2 the end of the christmas/epiphany season on the liturgical calendar

I recommend a covert night mission of this...

my neighbors (the renters) have had deflated inflatables lying limp in their yard for three weeks now.

Christmas lights are a waste of energy. To each their own but I never have to worry about taking mine down because they never go up. Not a curmudgeon I just don’t believe in it.

I’m with you. I used to throw up many light strings but for the last 5 years or so I put an electronic candle in each window of the front of the house and the decorated tree in front of the largest window. Simple and sweet and very little energy burn.

Who gives a shit what someone else does eith their property.

Also, I consider them winter lights. I enjoy seeing them. I haven't put any lights up for a few years but one year I had the blue ones that almost look like blacklights. Just one string around our front window. I think I took them down about this time of year iirc.

I'm not a practicing Christian, but I believe the correct answer to OP's question is 12 days after Christmas.

"The 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men. It begins on December 25 (Christmas) and runs through January 6 (the Epiphany, sometimes also called Three Kings’ Day)."

I got at least four houses in a 2 block area with lights still on, but I can kind of understand some this year with the snow. Now the ones up the street that leave two lit reindeer out all year in their yard, I find that obnoxious. One of them has been sitting on it's side for over 6 months, they didn't even bother to stand it back up. I thought the place might have been abandoned or something, but it's clearly not, so I don't get it.
