ESPN dot com article outlines CJ's recent concussions and his second placement on IR this season. Would be sad and unfortunate to see him have to leave the game so early. However, his health is of the highest concern. What a shame if this is so.

Very sad. I remember when he committed from Illinois and committed to Iowa because Iowa put tight ends in the NFL. He got there, and that is what is so sad about this.

If I remember correctly, the year CJ would have been a senior in HS, the University of Illinois had a crazy low number of completions that season to their tight ends. It was like two completions or something like that. CJ took notice.

I thin he is done... if he is smart, he will move of from his playing career.

Hope he transitions well to life after football. He wasn't actually gracious about Iowa football on the way out the door however. He was the one who told everyone who would listen, that Iowa drastically under used him in college and cost him a higher draft selection. Of course he failed to mention how he dropped a lot of balls, took plays off, and lost some of his reported 4.5 speed as put on a few pounds. NFL people know full well how Iowa football utilizes their TE's, so it made him look pretty petty in my book. The one position, a long with OL that has a lot of in the league. He got his shot as well, and did pretty well. Good luck to him going forward.

That always bothered me a bit. He tied for the fourth most catches by a TE in Iowa history without even catching a pass his true freshman year. Cook, Chandler, Cross and Slutzker all averaged over 12 yards a catch though, CJ averaged 9.9 yards. He was slow, couldn't break tackles, and had below average hands based on his recruiting profile coming in, yet Iowa still got him enough looks to be All Big 10 and a shot in the NFL. But he became a really good blocker and a good red zone threat at Iowa. And he did finally come on as a really good receiver last year with the Texans, he appeared trimmed down and much quicker, and was rewarded with a nice contract for it. Hopefully he can make a good decision about what he wants to do at this point. Wish him the best.
