Clark needs to stop shooting 3's

41% last year, bad advice
41% last year doesn't win any games this year. She needs to get that touch back but not at the expense to losing games. Lots of her shots are from about 6 feet of more past the line. Maybe just stop trying those unless shot clock violation coming.

So only shoot if she is going to make it? Just stop talking, you are not sounding any more intelligent or rational as you continue digging.

The big thing I see with Clark shooting 3's is when she comes up the court and throws up a 3 without running any offense or letting her teamates get into position to attempt to get rebounds. If she would stop taking that early 3 might help her shooting performance.

Clark's definitely having trouble shooting threes this season. After the first half ended she stayed on court briefly and attempted a couple 3-pointers and missed. Maybe she misses the two 3-point lines for calibration. There is only one now.

Caitlin is missing the identical shots she was making at a 40% clip last year.

Sure, they are cringe-worthy at times, but shooters gotta shoot their way out of it. As long as they're within the scheme (I think we'd all question at times what the scheme is or if there is one, but that's another subject), then let it fly. Now, the lazy/stupid passes...those are a different story, and a team plague.

pretty much so. Maybe a few more 3's with no passes where she just fires away. Maybe. But just going from 40 to 25% is the difference between a very good volume scorer who isn't very efficient, and one of the best players in the country.

Yup she stinks, 2 boards short of another triple double. She seems the only player singled out for criticism after any game, win or lose.

Most of her 3 have been strong. The one she hit she was falling away. May be something with motion or the angle. She's always seemed to hit a higher percentage when she does her step back move. I have no doubt she'll get it corrected before the end of the season. She hit 40% last year and I don't think it was a fluke. But she's contributing in other ways so it's okay that her shot is not falling.

What's important is the rest of the team steps up which they did in a big way today. All of the starters stepped up. Still need more from the bench and hopefully that will come. AJ Ediger showed she needs more minutes.

So you DON'T tell them to stop when they've proven they can do it

Apples to Oranges. Or better yet Tortoise and Hare.

Conner the tortoise, usually has all day to try and make a shot...since other teams don't really care if he shoots, and still clanks them.

Clark the energized bunny is guarded by best defenders and if she had all day to set and shoot she would never miss.

Conner needs to stay on bench if Fran was acting objectively and not a subjective father/coach.

Leading scorer, top 5 in assists per game, and top 20 in boards per game. I think she’s alright. Once those 3s start falling, watch out.
I agree that once she starts shooting 3's like how she did last year, it's going to get real scary for everyone else (opponents)

The announcers talked about Clark getting stronger in the weight room. If shes long on shots is it possible its related to that?

It's possible. But it might also just be her shooting angle. Look at her practice videos and her made shots. A lot of her three she jumps back or falls away when she releases. She doesn't seem to be doing that as much on the missed shots.

I'm sure she'll find some way to adjust her shooting motion. When she jumps back/falls away it affects the angle of the shot. When she doesn't the arc is causing the shot to hit the back of the rim. Most of her misses are strong and hit the back of the rim.

In practice there's no one around her so she's likely focusing more on the shot. She might also be overcompensating for having to shoot over defenders as she's not nearly been as open this year. Last year she would just let fly from halfcourt. This year she's being hounded before she even gets the ball past halfcourt. Last night they were right on her hip, which is how it's been most of the season.

There's a lot of opportunity for other players with Clark being hounded so closely but the other issues (standing around and Monica being triple teamed in the post) have prevented the offense form capitolizing. Monica is being forced almost under the basket. Too many post passes being intercepted or have gone through Monica's hands. Monica has also missed quite a few bunnies this year.

The offense in general needs more focus and to work to relieve the pressure on Clark. Last night was a great start. We would have blown Nebraska out last night if we could have rebounded. Allowing oppenents to get two, three and even four chances is not in any way acceptable.

When Clark is shooting inside the arch, she is hitting 60% of shots plus is waltzing to the FT line about 1/3 of the time. I would guess that that makes her shooting productivity go up to about a 70% success rate. There is some good home cooking there. The 24% from outside the arch is not a winning formula.

Clark needs to keep chucking up the 3's. She was a 40% 3-point shooter last year and will soon find her stroke. Apart from that, her offensive game is off the charts - terrific off the dribble and by far the best passer in women's college basketball.
