I'm sure this has been discussed but I re-watched this match last night and said to my son 'this is how wrestling is supposed to be." Great scrambles and counters with the action staying in the middle of the mat. None of this running to the edge garbage that with so many stoppages, quite frankly makes it boring to watch. I hope the "Powers that Be" can find a way to weed it out of the sport.

You're requesting a step out. I like it sir.

Clark’s run through that bracket was one for the ages, beating Micic, Tomasello and Gross, basically with one arm. Instead of 5,2,2,2, Clark is known as a National Champ.
Clark was fun to watch, high motor and always attacking.

That was a great feeling when the clock finally hit 0. Two things of note…not even a sniff of stalling by either guy. Good, hard, positional wrestling. Second, I forgot how damn good Clark was on top. Man, that was a professional ride out. Tons of pressure being generated from the top. That was good to see. Thanks for posting.

As much as I love watching that match, the semi final against Thomasello (sp?) was even more satisfying.
BTW, I hate leg riding...usually think it's legalized stallling. But CC gets a pass for his work against Gross here
:)

You don’t like leg riding? Get off the wrestling board. Leg rides turn into back points and cradles. Dumb.

Gross looked so much better at 133 when he was sucked down trying to make 57kg. He was a walking skeleton.

Absolutely. I feel like there was a new dimension to his 2-on-1 offense at this tournament that really worked in his favor (especially in the semis match). In addition to Clark overcoming his injuries, the coaches hit it out of the park game planning for those 2 matches (semis and finals). What an inspiring performance.

I never wanted anyone to win as badly as I wanted it for CC. Two heartbreaks in previous finals and the injuries he dealt with his senior year it seemed it wasn’t meant to be. One tough SOB. Very few can adapt their style the way he had to and still get the job done. Well I did hear a rumor about some kid winning on zero ACLs………

Anyone have a link to the Nato match in the semis? It was on YouTube a few years ago, then vanished. That was a hell of a good one.

Anyone remember his comment before this match? I believe it was post semifinal match and a reporter asked him about Gross’s top game, “I’m pretty good on top too”. And then rides him out for the win. That was a great one.

Then he had a quote in an interview after his win, something to the tune of "and who had more riding time in that match? I'll just leave it at that"

Explain please. I don’t understand. Is that a coaching thing. I wasn’t a leg rider, but my son was one of the best in Iowa. Nobody chose down.
This was 40 years ago. Don Bosco used to teach it. It helps to keep your hips from sliding down and gives you a little more leverage and balance. It helps if your working for a cradle, or coming under the arm to break the opponent flat or get the gulliotine. Clark has the toe in the mat a couple of times during his ride out.

Thank you and eff Don Bosco. Are best wrestlers besides my son transferred to DB. Would have had a championship team. Oh well, I can’t blame them for wanting to be in that room. Cheating dirty bastards. Lol.

Edit: I’m going to watch for that now.

I don’t like them either. We had a joint practice before districts with about 7-8 teams in Grundy Center, and they showed it.
The technique helps prevent the bottom guy from pushing back into you and putting you on your ass.

Not sure if serious. But against quality D1 wrestlers, leg rides don't turn into anything but riding time

Good point. I overstated my thoughts.
I still hate leg riding, but you are right...certain guys can turn it into points

FWIW, I think you were mostly right ;)

Okie St have this stall ride down to a science. Dont know why refs dont call more stalemates/stall calls like they have in the past.

It's odd to me that if the rider controls bottom man's leg with his hand for 5 seconds, it's stalling. If he controls the leg with his leg, it's not. I value initiative, aggression and fair play but leg riding gets in the way of all those IMO.

Double boots needs to be stalemated and stalling called. More than traditional one leg/grapevine ride. If you’re good, you can get away, not so much with double boots.
