Stanford Grades

Here's an opinion from an outsider:

125: I'm disappointed Noto was a no-go this weekend. If Noto beats Peterson, it's 9-9 at the break, not 15-6, which makes for a much more entertaining match.

133: Ayala C-. Knox is good, but that's a bad loss if Ayala is a title contender.

141: Block C-. Valencia looked like the real deal. Block did not.

149, 157, 197: Straight A's for the mercenaries. All three in top form and looked like at least high AAs.

165: Caliendo C. Pulled out the victory after Garvin gassed, but he looked bad in the first period and easily could have lost if it weren't Garvin's second day in a row wrestling/weighing in. He can be better, but he will have to be if he wants to be a high AA. Like Ayala, it's too early to truly be concerned, but he needs to be better.

174: Brands F. He looked like he's checked out. He did absolutely nothing after giving up the early takedown. They need to let Gabe wrestle 174 if he wants to or PK if he doesn't. Brands won't AA.

184: Gabe B+?. He looked good and did what he had to against weaker competition. He looks more like a 174 than a 184 and looks 100x the wrestler that Brands is. It's time to end this charade.

HWT: Kueter A-. Would be an A if he got to his offense faster. He is an athletic freak for a heavy and should have destroyed that tub of goo much faster, but once he figured out how much better he was, it went quickly. Once he develops a little more confidence in his game at this level, he'll handle those matches very easily. I really want to see him against Feldman and Kerk as the year moves on. He reminds me of Snyder and looks like a high AA at this point.

No, trust me. You didn’t miss any action during the Parco interview.

Iowa's new motto might as well be "...of Iowa with 0 after 1 period" because we've probably heard that phrase more than any other so far this decade.

And I do find it ironic that in the first year of mandatory no DEI at the University of Iowa, our minorities carried us. (And yes, I do consider gingers a minority group, Caliendo fans. Don't hate.)

125: No grade
133: C- damn rolling around crap!
141: D, basically a True Freshman learning how to wrestle at this level.
149: B+ Started a little slow but got it rolling in the 2nd!
157: B he is scary good just needs to open up a bit more and it will come with more time
165: B+ would be an A if he would have started sooner
174: D- I love his family so much but it’s hard to deny his performances this far. Maybe bring Ferrari in for a dual to see what he can do.
184: A solid performance and love his motor I honestly think he has outgrown 174.
197: A+++ you guys realize AJ beat him 5-0!!! Love what we got at 197!!!
Hwt: A- looked pretty good we will know a lot more in about Big Ben in 2 weeks.

Ayala had a few losses last year and still finished fine adjusting to a new weight. I am not at all worried about Drake. My biggest concerns is 174 but hopefully it gets better as the year goes!
Maybe Kennedy can be answer at 174. He always works hard...

This doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but a pet peeve I had was our home bench being on the same side. Wish they would just switch it since the new tunnel is in on the other side.
It makes a perfect sense...
