"Clint Eastwood might just want to stay off stage for… well, ever.

After staying out of the spotlight since that time he talked to an empty chair like a crazy person at the 2012 Republican National Convention, the four-time Oscar-winning actor/director stirred controversy yet again on Saturday.

This time, the 85-year-old "American Sniper" director ruffled feathers when he made a joke at the expense of Caitlyn Jenner while appearing onstage at Spike TV's 2015 Guys' Choice awards.

According to USA Today, the joke -- which Spike TV has said they will cut when the awards show airs -- was made when Eastwood was introducing "San Andreas" star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

According to reports, Eastwood introduced Johnson by comparing him to other famous athletes, such as "Jim Brown and Caitlyn Somebody..."

Some radio personality has already been made to 'apologize' for not calling Bruce Caitlyn.

What a joke free speech has become in this country. Why even claim we have it?

I'm confused, where were their free speech rights violated?
Why call it free speech, if what he says, which was completely harmless, needs to be censored? Not to mention the amount of #$#$ he will get from this. I'm curious, do you not have a problem with such stringent PC BS?

Hmmm. I don't read anything in the article that states that some government entity is punishing him for the joke, or even criticizing him. How, pray tell, is his free speech being impinged upon? He's free to say whatever he wants and he's free to suffer the consequences of his speech. Spike TV is a private corporation and can do as it wishes with any broadcast material that it owns.

The fact that it happened simply because there would possibly have been a reckoning is what the infringement is. Yes it's a private corporation, but are they doing this because they really give a shit, or because it would create a ridiculous amount of backlash. Anyones whos even somewhat joked about this publicly has been made to apologize, or gotten attacked by legions of whiny ass people.

Not that anyone here needed it, but Exhibit A, Aegon is simple.
It's funny how the simple can see so much more than the complicated isn't it. Seriously, it's a sad day that when a joke is made, it needs to be censored to keep everyone happy.

I've said it for a long time, the people in this country are their own worst enemy.

Then say this in your OP, talk about your PC nonsense, but when you implicate "freedom of speech," you illustrate your ignorance.

You get the point, and playing word games is just childish Patrick.

Freedom of speech is the political right to communicate one's opinions and idea. Which can also be used in conjunction with freedom of expression.

So let's look at it in your way. Eastwood COULD NOT be made to 'punished' for what he said under article 19. Yet, because of the PC sensitivity to so many in this country, he will be censored. In itself, his right to free speech or expression is stamped out by whining people. Another example of why the people in this country are their own worst enemy. Hence, the people don't even respect that right given to them. Well, as long as it doesn't ruffle THEIR feathers of course.

You see Iowa, it's the point that I'm making. Do you see me bitching and whining anytime you throw insults my way? Lol, I could give a #$#$ what you have to say, or what anyone has to say about me. Its nothing to me, all your words, and yet they accomplish nothing with me. I don't rattle, I don't care, it means nothing. They're just words.

I am sure he is worried about the "consequences".LOL

Yes, you do, and I've pointed it out before. As soon as posters call out your idiocy, or just disagree with you, you run right to the "freedom of speech" nonsense. You cry that people are intolerant and too PC.

Words are extremely important and you seem too ignorant of their definitions to have a meaningful conversation.

I'm not offended in the least, it just seems stupid.

Exactly, it is just a stupid joke. So why do they feel they need to censor it? Because people WILL be offended is why. In order to keep that from happening , they chose to censor it when it airs. Which is my point.

Uh oh, Patrick's going to cry again. No Patrick, I make a point to show how one opinion means nothing to another opinion.
You are too PC and intolerant. For yodas sake you were getting but hurt by people talking about GoT. You always do this stuff. You have some weird quirk about how someone says something and then you go off ranting about it.
I can you see you now, your blood pressure is rising. That glaze on your lips from the 5 donuts you are is beginning to melt again. Calm down Patrick.

I'm still trying to figure that out. And how is allowing him to say whatever he wants "free speech" but denying people the right to criticize what he says isn't?
Who says you can't criticize it? Whether they can censor it or not cant stop that now. It's the point of why they felt the need to censor it and where that need stems from. Confused again Iowa?

Here is the full joke, from other outlets:

Eastwood, 85, compared the San Andreas star to former athletes who have become actors, like "Jim Brown and Caitlyn Somebody..."

Spike TV owns the rights, they can air whatever they want. Btw, OP sucks at this faux outrage alt.

Not from Iowa...drove through it once, though. And Spike TV is a private entity...they can air whatever they want and they can cut whatever they want...."free speech", right?

Why is that. I'm pointing out how someone's words needed to be censored in an attempt not to hurt someone's feelings.
No you're not. You are making a case that some government authority needs to prevent a private company from airing the program they want because of the opinions of an employee. As a liberal I'm just tickled you are so pro labor rights, but your government minding goes too far for me.

I'm still trying to get the joke. Was he saying that Jim Brown was a known actor and Caitlyn "somebody" isn't? If so I guess I get it. Jim Brown appeared in a few memorable movies like "The Dirty Dozen". What has Jenner done?

That's the thing, one has to be careful to try to follow the humor of an eighty-five year old. They might be one brief step from the Bingo and Pudding Palace! Even Eastwood.

Was this Eastwood's attempt to insult D Johnson? I know he is taking a mild shot at Jenner. However calling Jenner a former athlete turned actor is not a good comp to DJ. Jim Brown also? Whole thing is just jibberish.

How does Clint get these movies directed? Every time I see him on an awards show he reminds me of the really old grandad that is on the verge of doing something tasteless and off color.

So I have a question for the OP - is a private entity - in this case Spike TV - morally obligated in your world to air ANYTHING someone says on their broadcast in order to protect their free speech rights?

What if Clint Eastwood dropped the N word?

I agree 100 percent that his Jenner "joke" was not offensive. And I also think the PC senstivity of way too many people is turned up too high. But I also recognize that as an entity, if Spike is concerned that something said by someone on their airwaves is going to create negative backlash, it is 100 percent OK for them to choose not to show it and that is in no way, shape and attack on "freedom of speech". It's a business decision. Period.

No, I'm not actually. That's as bad as of a take I've seen you have on here. The point is the Freedom of speech and expression are rights. I'm not saying the government is stopping Spike from airing what Clint said. I'm saying the overly PC nature of this country is why Spike decided to remove the comment. Which was as harmless as they come.

No they can do whatever they want. Spikes decision is Spikes decision. But it's the nature of why they decided to make that decision that I'm speaking of.

What I underlined is the problem that I'm pointing out. I get why Spike would censor it. What is troublesome is the reason why they would feel that way.

OK. So what is the solution?

The only solution is for comedians/commentators/etc. to keep pushing boundaries with what they say, and hoping that some media outlets will have the cajones to allow it.

I actually think Comedy Central is a leader in this, believe it or not. They have quite a few shows (Tosh.0, Inside Amy Schumer, South Park, etc.) that push boundaries - and can be quite anti-P.C.

This, which should be obvious to all moderately intelligent people.

If you think it's a right to say whatever you want and force a TV station to air it, then you are calling for government enforcement. Or you could admit you don't have a right to say whatever you want and force it onto TV and your entire argument is bogus. Either way, point to me.

Well now you prove you don't know what "rights" are. Well done.
