Clones go down

So do "suites" users add to the atmosphere, that people are always saying CHA lacks? Doubt it. Simply a way to make some money.

Not really but if Im gonna sit in the last 10 rows of Carver, i would rather be in a suite drinking beer while I watch. I just figured it would give people another option and make more $$ for the university. Sitting in the last 10 rows is awful

I was thinking more of re-designing carver and having some sort of floor exit for those people. Also I think having the "concourse" all the way at the top is just bad design. Those people have to walk up the stairs to use the pisser or get popcorn. It makes no sense. I have sat all over Carver and there really isn't a "bad" seat in the arena, but there also isn't a great seat either. I just think the whole lay-out is bad. I would also wish they would put in some "suites" for people to rent. We did that at a UNI game last year and it was blast. Was able to watch a little basketball, drink a little beer and have fun.

Carver is a great concert venue, but probably one of the worst basketball venues. I see why its quiet in there, your about 100 ft back from the action and half of the time the student section isn't even full. The students are never into the game, like you see at MICH, ISU, and other major colleges.

I realize they have the tunnels that they go out, but the last time I went through there, I would rather stand on the stairs. Took way to long to get out.
I'm with you. Adding suites at the top would be an option for the bigger donors/older folks. It would also cut down on the standing at the top/ leaving early because you couldn't see the game anymore. It would also make carver louder a as more noise would be contained.

My comment was directed at Herkuleez not you, but I don't disagree with what you posted.

I have not been a big fan of Carver since it was built. I was spoiled by the Fieldhouse, and wished the Hawks would have stayed there.

And yet it is those same "blue hairs" that still donated and attended games when the program was in the dumps, while the "real fans" abandoned Iowa basketball in droves.

Yep, let's punish those blue hairs by putting them farther up the arena. That'll teach 'em!

Yes as much as people complain how these people aren't loud enough or whatever they are the ones spending $ getting season tickets every year (especially those loyal ones during the Lick years and even Frans first few) compared to most of us here who just go to the occasional few games.

As for renovations didn't The Pit in New Mexico get some down recently? Since Carver is very similar Iowa should look into doing something very similar to that.

I knew after ISU had a lead with McKay on the bench and they put him back in, West Virginia had it won. McKay isn't a team player - he sucks.

I think Prohm is a good coach. But he needs to play Burton more. That dude is a bull and gives a ton of effort. McKay and niang are in a funk. I think the traveling thing is in Niang's head.

Having said all that, West Virginia was nails at the line late. That helps on the road.
If you notice Burton probably would be playing more but he is continually on the bench in foul trouble.

Instead of all the bickering I would like a couple clone fans to share their insight on Prohms first year..
I knew Prohm was going to be a disaster when we lost to UAB last year.

Oh, wait.....

Seriously, I've been positively impressed so far. Last year ISU won most of its close games. This year it's lost most of them. I don't think coaching is to blame. I think lack of depth is more significant. And the absence of Naz. And the law of averages. I don't think you can blame the coach when normally good free-throw shooters throw up bricks late in the game, but you can blame fatigue.

Assuming Mckay is a head case, I guess you could say Fred would have handled him better. But then you have to give Prohm credit for the huge improvement Thomas has made.

What would you think if the guy coaching Michigan State were new this year?

If MSU had a new coach this year, I would say we won't know for a while as MSU under Izzo plays really well in March.

They can't have it both ways...you want to attend games courtside, then sit your ass in your seat until the game is over! Otherwise, just write your checks and stay home and watch the games on TV. Let the students or underprivileged kids have your seats.

I think ISU's problem is they struggle against team with a "pop you in the mouth" mentality. WVU is prime example of a team like that, A&M is the same way, those teams want to run a half-court offense and just be on you like stink on crap on defense, ISU has struggled with that.

Wrong.
They are the ones who (for the most part) who donate the most and have been loyal season ticket purchasers thru thick and thin....yet that isn't good enough for you.
So a few (yes, a few....you make it sound like they leave in droves) want to leave early.....BIG DEAL. They can leave if they want to. Who are YOU to pass judgement? Are you a season ticket holder? Of course you aren't.
And before you give those seats to the students....maybe the students need to start coming to the games first.
Instead of complaining, why don't you pony up the $$ to get season tickets court side? Then that will be one less person leaving early.

Catch up on the conversation sparky. We're criticizing the fans for leaving early...someone gives a LAME excuse why fans have to leave early...(elderly types who can't physically stand on the steps for a long time while leaving the arena)...and my take is that if you can't handle the climb, don't do the time ...sit your butts up top...easy to leave and avoid the standing on the steps.

Seriously, just stop with your defense of the rich blue hairs who sit courtside due to the bank accounts while leaving early so they can avoid the crowded stairs....it's pathetic.

I don't know how common this is, but a friend of mine had season tickets down low at CHA and was allowed to go in and out at floor level. He wasn't handicapped, just not a young guy anymore and had trouble with steps. He also was a member of the Board of Regents, so that MAY have been a factor.

WRONG.

I'll defend the "rich blue hairs" because they EARNED the right to sit where they do because of their years of giving and supporting the team. (Were YOU at the game last night? Of course you weren't.).

Don't like it? Then why don't YOU pony up the $$ for courtside seats? Hmmm? Then there will be one less person leaving early. But you won't do that because you would rather complain.

Newsflash....not as many leave early as you seem to imply. Granted, more people leave early in blowouts, but that is true EVERYWHERE. I'm sure you would prefer to handcuff everyone to their seat the final game, but thankfully people like you aren't in charge.

IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE CLIMB THEN DON'T DO THE TIME!!!

Just write your checks like good alumni should and stay home to watch the game from the comfort of your rascal.

"Stay home to watch the game from the comfort of your rascal."

You mean like you do?

Still would like to know why YOU didn't go to the game last night, and why YOU don't pony up $$ for courtside seats.

If you can't be bothered to go to the games, then you have no right to complain about those who do.

I agree with this. I also think once Prohm gets his own guys in this will hopefully change a little bit. This Iowa State team will be remembered for what they do in the tournament. They have the talent to make a run they just need to do it.

And by the way, the donations for the Carver Renovations mostly came in during the Lickliter years. Good fans who wanted the program to be better donated millions. I get tired of the whining.

I think isu is going to continue to take physical and chemistry hits and then have an early exit in the tourney. By the time the tourney rolls around some of them are going to be glad it is over.

Last game I was at there were plenty of people leaving early including those who sat up high or behind the baskets and the students. It isn't just the rich donors who sit close. Plus how do you know why they are leaving early. Every one has their own reasons. Who cares why. Doesn't matter where you sit you paid the money you can leave and arrive whenever you want. I love when people complain about lack of crowd enthusiasm or leaving early yet same person rarely attends the game.

I have a hard time seeing a team who is wearing down by the game, make a run in a tourney where they will need to play back to back games. They have the talent, not sure about the bodies to do it though.

Yep isu grads told us all last season how meaningless depth is. This year they lose one player and suddenly depth isn't something they want to talk about at all.

Here is a 'bet ya house", months in advance prediction. isu grad will rationalize away what ever perceived issue there is with this years version of isu basketball and will confidently state how glad they are the issues graduated and thus isu's newest savior will really be the one take them to the promised land. Oh and Randy Peterson will write endlessly about it as well.

I don't think ISU is wearing down by the game. I mean they are a 5 days removed from a 4 game winning streak that included two road wins and two wins over top 5 teams. Burton will get more minutes as he keeps playing better defensively and that will help a lot in the rotation.

and those 4 games had no impact at all on isu losing two in a row correct?

ISU lost to two top 15 teams in a row, one of which was on the road. ISU looked soft against WVU but I'm not sure the Kansas State or Oklahoma game had anything to do with it.

I see a team that has a narrow margin of error both from a physical and team chemistry stand point. If you don't see it then fine that is your prerogative.

I will be very obvious who is right.

I see a team with three top 10 wins, a top 20 KenPom ranking that will probably be a 4 seed with a chance to make a run in the tournament. It hasn't been a great season so far but I'm far from the ledge

Another reason to let the students and or general public have access to the seats that are close to the floor. Then there would be excited and energetic fans that stay until the end. "Ticket holder" can sit in row 20 plus, that way they can get to their cars quickly.
Coach potatoes don't get no say.

I don't see a team that will make a deep run. No matter who they play in the tournament it will be a good team and one that can take down a team that is fragile physically and mentally.

isu grad said he UAB game would make this isu team stronger and from what I have seen they aren't any tougher this year than they were last year.

How is ISU a top 20 team if they are so fragile physically and mentally? I mean they did overcome a 20 pt deficit to beat Iowa. They gave Oklahoma one of their two losses on the season. That doesn't sound like a fragile team to me.

All of that was at home. Something isu won't be able to do in the tourney.

Go to a game for once. The donars that sit on the court are there.

Seriously super fan buy court side seats and give the tickets to a student. Then watch from home and see if they are in the seat.

If they were tough as you say they are they wouldn't have lost at home to Baylor and WVA.

I didn't say they were tough. I think they are far from mentally and physically fragile though. There's a reason they are top 20 in KenPom and have been ranked 50 straight weeks
