Clowns to use pyro and fireworks at their stadium

You must have missed the "in state rivals" board (im sure you didnt, you just arent mentioning it) where there are threads with page counts into the 20s,30s, 40s and 50s about Iowas recruiting classes, schedule, future games, etc., with literally hundreds of thousands of views, all started by Cyclones fans. Shit, an Iowa football recruiting thread over there, started 8 weeks ago, has 84 pages of posts in it. We dont have an "in state rivals" board here.

Both teams talk about eachother. We're bitter rivals, and get off on making fun of the other team.
There is no "in state rivals" board at Cyclone Report.

But you are correct that there are frequently threads there about Iowa sports. I am giving some people here a little crap, but if you're a sports fan, these things happen. Fans are interested in what's happening with other schools.

Ha my bad dude. I thought I read cyclonefanatic, not report.

I remember when the swarm started. It absolutely was a gimmick. It is now a gimmick that has become a tradition.

Only a complete fool would think this let alone try to pass it off as fact on a Hawkeye message board. Please enlighten everyone here with what you think you know about the swarm.

Always thought Cyclone report had little activity because the whole thing is pay. While Cyclone Fanatic had more activity on it.

By LC definition anything a team does outside of running onto field is a gimmick. MI touching their banner while running out is probably a Gimmick.

Yes, you are correct.

In the context of this thread, anything non-isu no matter how successful as measured by decades of use/following was/is a 'gimmick'. Other than losing, I am curious to read what "traditions" isu football fans can note for reference and to discern between what might truly be gimmicky and traditional.

Typical isu fan. Anything they do is awesome and anything big bro does is a gimmick.

I can't wait for another isu football player to plow into the goalposts while running onto the field. It is my favorite "gimmick" of all-time.

Which is the classic definition of a gimmick. Just like the Steeler unis.

In the classic definition? Sure, you're right, something to attract attention to something. But in the context of this conversation we are talking about something corny, hokie and just plain silly. Surely you're smart enough to realize the context of this conversation.

Lets play guess the team!

FIFY. To eliminate your spin.

I didn't even know there was a Cyclone Report any more. That's got to be a brutal site. I'm assuming most of the Cyclone message board activity has gone to Cyclone Fanatic. Is that goofy Paul Clark still running it?

I dont know if he is still running it, but he is absolutely still a part of it. That dude is a clown. Remember his article after Iowa had all of their off the field trouble in like '07? About how ISU needed to take advantage? Hahaha jfc...

This would serve as a perfect example of a gimmick or someone trying too hard to 'gimmick' a situation. Most sane observers see a very distinct difference between the swarm, Hawkeye uniforms (each which now have existed for over three decades) and the stunt Paul Clark pulled.

I just checked Cyclone Report. Didn't see any threads about Iowa's pre-game routine. Matter of fact, didn't see any threads about Iowa, period.

Its also pay site only like lounge here where it detracts trolls from keeping threads like this one alive and same isu posters from lurking around. Funny though lounge has no isu topics on front page but do have a Wisconsin, penn st, even a ndsu topic up. But nothing isu. Now as other poster said go to free site like this one or for isu sake such as clown fanatic you'll see plenty of Iowa threads there.

Yup. If it doesn't naturally evolve, it's a gimmick. Touching the banner might have evolved. I don't know the history of that.

And you don't think the swarm is corny or hokey or just plain silly because you are a Hawkeye fan. Just as a lot of ISU fans -- not including LC -- didn't think there's anything corny or hokey or just plain silly about "Smoke On The Water."

Eye of the beholder.

I never go to CF so I can't comment on it one way or the other.

Not at all alike. Not surprised that you of anyone here would fail to see/acknowledge that, but some things just never improve.

The inflatables and the faux smoke entrance were the grand ideas of the isu athletic administration in their poorly thought out attempt to appease and possibly attract more fans to Jack Trice. At a time when true support from the AD was most needed, in comes toys, props and tomfoolery. Speaks loudly today about where isu has gone football wise during the most recent decade.

Iowa, conversely, was vastly in need of guidance and leadership in 1979. Along comes a coach and staff that knew a thing or two about how to mold a group of young men into a cohesive team and voila new uniforms, the unison of the swarm as the team entered the field and a mindset that encouraged the Hawkeyes to expect more and better of themselves. Nothing really corny or hokey at all.

The proof is in the results, LC. Iowa did not just happen to become a respectable football program once again when Fry arrived. It was by dissecting and planning to the ultimate detail how to dress, behave, anticipate, react and perform that made Iowa football what it is now. Sadly, the same can be stated for isu - they did not just become one of the worst programs in major college by happenstance. You can look no further than those making the decisions to see what has occurred is the result of their actions.

Corny or hokey? No, I don't. I have already explained to you once the rationale behind it. 5fan5 just echoed that same opinion. That being said, if YOU think its silly or hokey or stupid, that exact mindset goes a LONG way in explaining the status of what is Iowa State football.

Heads up: LC does not read my posts. He grew tired of me showing him the error of his ways here on HR awhile ago.

Since I was a little kid I enjoyed the swarm (which has been a staple for multiple decades) as does vast majority of my Iowa friends who I know and tailgate with. As for smoke on the water most cyclone fans I know hate the song and think it's cheesy as F. To compare smoke on the water to the swarm is an insult and idiotic. Not even in the same ballpark.

isu is to be laughed at and not taken seriously.

Never mind him every tradition is just a gimmick. Ohis State band doing the Ohio Script and dotting the I a gimmick. VA Tech's enter Sandman entrance just a gimmick. Clemson touching Howards rock and racing down the hill just a gimmick. LSU having a live Tiger just a gimmick. Auburn and War Eagle an eagle flying around stadium. Just a gimmick.

If our unis were a gimmick in trying to emulate the Steelers, that is preferable to emulating Ronald McDonald.
