IDK but I feel that Fran thinks that other coaches get away with a lot more and influence the refs decisions. And he calls them out when he sees it happening.
Not sure why the refs were down by the Indiana bench so much
Fran untucked his hog from his sock and told Woodson "this is what a man looks like"
Fran is pretty much responsible for having that label. That being said he has been calmer the last few years to smooth out that stigma a little bit.
Calls seemed to turn around after he did that
I think the game was fairly called even if I am not a fan of the way it was called....they allowed lots of bumping by Indiana. lot of over the back, and protected TJD to much to my taste and also rewarded flopping---but the total whistle count was roughly neutral.
Give Indiana credit---they played great defense and TJD was automatic. Wish Iowa was allowed to defend him, then it would have been easier win.

I guess I watched a different game if that was called fairly.
They swallowed the whistles when Iowa was up 4 under a minute. The mugging on Iowa’s inbounds was insane not to have a foul called.
I will say, Indiana did a great job of taking away the lane and stopping Iowa from driving through the lane. The only option available was to win the game from outside with tired legs. Fortunately they were somehow able to pull it off. I would expect something similar from whoever Iowa plays tomorrow as well.
Also, there were times in the game were Iowa was noticably slower on defense. I think fatigue played a factor there too.
After all of that physicality, that ticky-tack on Perkins at the 3/4 court was criminal. I think that is what sent Fran off a bit.

Non possession foul, never get ft’s for taking a charge. Unless of course you’re on offense 😉 and I only know that because my senior yr of high school we ran an ob play and our pg took a charge to shoot ft’s for the win lol
TJD had 2 fouls which is impossible. 2 fouls, he would have been fouled out with just his rebounding fouls.
Another bullshit reffing performance by bullshit refs. And CBS sucks. What a bunch of Indiana cheerleaders. Screw them too. Had to turn the audio off early in the second half. BS everywhere you step.

Exactly. It was poorly called both ways except on rebounds... TJD and Race fouled a ton on rebounds that never got called
I agree and I’m thankful he’s seemingly calmed down on the sidelines. My beefs with him have involved mostly his behavior (it’s trending better) and the combo of defense & rebounding (I think trending better). I’m shutting my mouth accordingly as this is the product I want to see and I don’t have a ton of frustration with it. I even plan to stay silent even after our tourney loss (if there is one).
So if one team commits 20 fouls and is called for 8 of them to match the other teams foul total, that’s fairly called?
Sarcasm? Or is this B10 ref logic we are talking about? B/c all B10 teams don't play the same style of D. There are certain teams that mug you every possession and refs either let it go or control it at the beginning.
This is absolutely true. I've never seen a player get a pass on so many over the back fouls. He was all over Rebraca's back on a ton of possessions.
There is never a free throw awarded on a player control foul.
Fran was asked about it in the post game and he basically didn't like all the extra conversations that were happening between Woodson and the officials heading into timeouts.
My post is meant to say equal fouls does not equal a fairly called game. Was trying to simulate the ≠ symbol which I just now found.

First time in my life I've been right lol. He's 100% right to get involved. Woodson, Howard, Izzo, etc. get away with so much bc they have this ridiculous relationship with some refs.
Fran was awful with Big Ten refs in his early years, and they punished him. He has done a great job in last couple years, total turn around.
That really was total BS. Hard to believe they let them mug us and come down and whistle us for tic tac.
Scirotto once again proved why he's the worst ref out there right now. The ticky-tack call on Perkins and the blatant travel by TJD (happened right in front of him) when Iowa was up four late were potentially big blown calls by him.
Just remember we are now playing our most hated rival for the B1G tournament title. We must beat them!!
Yeah CBS jerk!ng off to IU pretty much most the game was pathetic. Got sick and tired of hearing about Davis!
Add to that Seth Davis before the game or at half stated Iowa was shaky or has been tipid coming into the B1G tournament. I’m like wtf are you talking about, they’ve won 9 of 10. It was as if he had no clue what he was talking about regarding Iowa and how well they have played coming into the tournament.
Exactly what I would have said. Not sure exactly why Fran was so mad, but the Hawks were on the verge of getting behind big a few times.
I don't think Little Larry gave us any calls. And with him getting canned at his 'FULL TIME' job we might be stuck with him more next year. Hopefully he can join Courtney Green as our do not officiate list from Fran.
This. Go back and watch the inbounds play that ended up getting stolen around mid court. Defender had JBo wrapped up around the waist. On one of Keegan’s late 3’s JBo was going through a screen defender was holding his arm pulling it behind.
