The guys missed some free throws, that was a big cause of that choke but some misses are to be expected based on their percentages. The coaches on the other hand, woof. My hazy memory is that just played out exactly as a game at Nebraska last year or the year before. Have to foul them when up 3 with less than 7 seconds to play, particularly when they have two chuckers on the floor. Then the debacle of the last play of regulation. I think Tyus Edney just cried in his egg nog while watching our slowest guy get turned up the floor. Im a big Fran fan but take a lap Fran and staff. Then learn something for when it matters in March situations.

Now that the booze has worn off...I still believe all of this. Not fouling is unacceptable. The last play is unacceptable (fundamental bball IQ, you get the ball up the court quicker via the pass than the dribble). Sure hope these lessons pay off in the future in some way.

Most certainly a terrible coaching decision to not foul, especially in hindsight. And then compounded by using JBo to take the ball up court with 5 seconds left in a tie game. Why not Toussaint? Is he not the fastest player on our roster, and perhaps the only guy who could get to the rim in that short of time?? I understand that JBo has hit countless huge shots over the course of this career, but he is slower now than ever after the two hip surgeries, and extremely easy to defend in that spot, as they know exactly what is coming (last second 3 point shot attempt). Not to mention that he has been flat out bad so far this season, for the most part.

A corollary to this is JBo simply needs to only sparsely play point. He should be a deadly 2 if we can find minutes for him. I think that’s how Fran started using Gatens when he went on his streak from downtown? (Although I hope we avoid the single player running off screens until they’re dead tired and miss a tough shot as was sometimes the case with Jok, Gatens, and even Ogelsby).

anyway, I believe Fran had a timeout left. Should have advanced the ball to midcourt , called TO and set something up. Very frustrating.

Yeah, I thought they should have fouled before the 3 pointer. But, the players should have spotted that opportunity. Of course, Fran could have been shouting from the sidelines.

I guess it was unimaginable that Joe would clank 2 there.

I mean before he shoots the free throws the 2 scenarios should be discussed. Makes 1 or 2, no fouls, umbrella on the 3 point line. Misses both, foul once the clock is under 10 seconds. It’s not difficult and it would have resulted in a win.

Just rewatched the last play of reg: obviously should've fouled. If that's not the philosophy, so be it. Which makes the defensive coverage even more appalling.... Joe T went UNDER the damn screen. In that situation, at the very least you go over. Ideally, the players are well versed enough, from practice, to switch every screen. Basketball 101 under 5 seconds up 3. Total coaching blunder... an average coached team would've been told to do that before Joe T's free throws; an EXCEPTIONALLY coached team would've run through that scenario on multiple occasions during practice. Thus making it second nature. Fran's guys defended that situation like a bunch of confused middle schoolers, which is a reflection of a poorly coached team.
