Coleman Scott

Why not Jden Cox? I’m sorry but no one is coming to Iowa to wrestle for Telford. Let him go. Move M* to recruiting coordinator and hire someone that isn’t alumni
I think Iowa can do better than M star as the guy trying to convince young studs to come to Iowa city. His name doesn’t really scream national recognition. See what Gable is doing next year, and then for the next 4 till Olympics, or Cox. And yeah Coleman in as well. Oh and see if SL wants to do some recruiting.

The name "Iowa" will get any recruiting coordinator in the door. Then it is people skills and ability to relate and communicate that will close the deal. Someone who can sell a program and is enthused by it - that is what is needed. A big name is not needed. They can get that when they visit the school and see what is available.

No one thinks the guy who is selling the program is the most important piece of the puzzle. Just the same way as no one thinks the wrestling facility is more important than what happens in the facility.

I remember what a realtor told me when we were selling our house. You are selling your house, but they are buying their house. In other words, the things that make it special to me are not necessarily what makes it special to them. I have memories and experiences that I treasured in the house and they could care less.
We had to make it appeal to someone who did not have those memories and attachments, but rather let them see the potential of the house for their uses and pursuit of dreams..

TnT seem to think that kids have the same attachment to U of I and feelings about the Hawks as they do and that just isn't the case. The kids are looking at U of I as another possible place to wrestle. How do they fit in? Will they enjoy being there? Is it the best place for them? Can they reach their goals there? These are the Q's they are asking themselves and these are the Q's a recruiting coordinator should be able to answer - with pizzazz, I might add.

I am an OSU guy but I would recommend poaching the crap out of OSU coaches that are leaving. Those guys did more with less than any other staff I’ve seen. I love coach Smith but he was stuck in the old ways and that staff was still able to get recruits and think outside the box to amp up the system. We would have nothing going for us and next thing you know, we were landing some pretty high recruits/transfers, etc. Admittedly, I thought those guys could sell popsicles to an Eskimo.

There's some real talent leaving Stillwater. Who will take advantatge of that?

I keep hearing this “we need a recruiting coordinator” or “move Mstar to the recruiting coordinator role”. Do other programs have this sole position in place?

TOSU does. Pretty sure Caldwell had that position at osu before he got canned. Most teams also have a director of operations who is a ex wrestler that can help in all areas of the program. Iowa has Moriah Marinelli.

edquinn06 I appreciate the response and not looking to challenge the need or not the need for a recruiting coordinator

I feel the position/title of director of operations is kinda a glorified scheduler or assistant I’m probably under valuing what the job requires

Okie St just recognize the current staff under DT and position, no mentions of recruiting coordinator that tells me as a collective they identify and target the future recruits together

What has M* done in anything? Good lord he’s dead weight.

What makes me question the two comments is when we as Hawkeye fans discuss the PSU success we tend to talk about Cael or Casey being the rock that rights the ship but at times we blame the Iowa staff at the secondary positions….again I won’t to honest I’m not in the camp of replacing TnT but they select the assistants

Yeah we’re on top consistently or as much as we’re used to but that’s been the case since D Gable retired not truly JZ fault not TB fault…..possibly its the AD not recognizing that we need to hire another former ISU wrestler

Or as many have posted for quite some time. A voice that directly a product of TnT. Will it work? Who the hell knows. But what we are running on now is not. One different eyeball, voice, perspective. Maybe that rights the ship? Regardless I’m here for it but god dammit I want to win.

Some do. The issue is that unless the RC is one of the 3 allotted assistant coaches, they have minimal power since by rule only the 3 assistants and head coach can meet recruits off campus.

Until the “open the doors and see which recruits walk through” recruiting philosophy changes Iowa doesn't need a recruiting coordinator as that person would be super bored with very little to do.

I want to win too but I just feel like so many things have to fall inline to have a run like Gable had or Cael is currently having, I get this is message board and honestly I’ve been following it for 17 years and just now I’ve decided to jump into to the “cesspool” lol. Love reading Chief, Spooner, Gobblin, vhsalum, gablebeer and many more

It’s fun needs to be fun because we all care

Spooner sorry take it easy on me…are you say we do or don’t need a RC….again take it easy on me 😅 or burn me like Tom Brady

I love it too. There would be no board if it wasn’t for how passionate we all are.

Correct. Iowa doesn't need one. When the recruiting philosophy is so passive, what would the point be?

He’s saying we need a new recruiting process. Right now it looks like the Hawks expect top recruits to come banging on our dungeon doors to be considered worthy of the program. If we’re not into pursuing prospects, what’s the use of having an rc?

If that is truly the case, which I am going to guess is a bit of a stretch, then I would be in the camp that it's time for a change of management. That philosophy may have worked under Gable but times have changed.
