College Club team

So I have a friend at work who claims that since he played LaCrosse on a club team in college (Ball State) that he considers himself a college athlete.

So I suppose my question is, if you played a sport on a club team in college does that make you a college athlete?

I played club baseball at Iowa and I say no. Part of our training regiment for rookies was an initiation keg stand.

Reminds me of the club baseball team at Iowa. They used to (and likely still do) have their team ball crawl in February when the real Iowa baseball team was on the road. Each year, hundreds of girls bought t-shirts and went bar to bar thinking they were with the Iowa baseball team.

Club baseball sure as hell doesn't make you a college baseball player and playing club la cross doesn't make you a college athlete.

I was on the team and did the bar crawls and I don't think any of the girls I invited thought we were varsity baseball. Maybe that's what other guy were telling the ladies, IDK. I feel like I missed out on that opportunity. The bar crawl was a big fund-raiser for us. I don't think a varsity baseball program could sponsor a bar crawl with shirts that are captioned "We handle our sticks well in the box."

There were some that did, I assure you. I worked for the baseball team during the last administration and it was a yearly joke when players were asked if they would be at the bar crawl.
