I see the Bearcats beat UConn twice....by 2 points and then 4 points......not that a common opponent tells you a lot....but who does Cincinnati resemble in the B10?

I know Ohio State beat them early in the year.

Kinda sound like a much better Rutgers. Good athletes, in your face defense, so-so offensively, slow tempo.

This is all their rivals site had on it.....seems as though they finished strong....but if we have a performance like we did against Illinois I think we can beat them.

Cincinnati, fresh off claiming the American Athletic Conference tournament championship on Sunday, has its NCAA Tournament opponent and date set.

The Bearcats are the No. 7 seed in the south region. On Thursday, they'll play No. 10 seed Iowa in the first round, with the time and television network still to be announced.

Cincinnati also has the benefit up playing just north on I-71 in Columbus. If the Bearcats advance, they'll play the winner of the No. 2 seed Tennessee/No. 15 seed Colgate.

As for Cincinnati's first round opponent, Iowa, finished 22-11 overall. The Hawkeyes went 10-10 in the Big Ten Conference, sixth-best in that league. They're led by forward Tyler Cook, who leads four scorers in double-figures, with 14.9 points per game. He also leads Iowa with 7.9 rebounds per game.

The Bearcats earned a No. 2 seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. They defeated Georgia State in the first round, but were upset by No. 7 seed Nevada in the second round.

Saw that. It looks like Cincy has played a ton of close games. They must know how to squeeze out the Ws... Gives me some hope we have at least a chance to do something this 1st round.

Hopefully they folks in Columbus do not have much love for the Bearcats.

Watched some highlights on YouTube... unfortunately they can shoot the three. #34 Cumberland is their stud......6’ 5” wing guard. They have a quick point who is the top 3 point percentage shooter in their league.

Massey has them rated as the 116 offense in the country. They rely heavily on Cumberland.

They barely beat UConn both times.

If Iowa shows up and shoots above 35% for 3 then I like our odds.

I think it is a better matchup for Iowa than most people think, but I don’t blame them from being worried about pretty much any matchup we may have gotten at this point.
This!
I am fully convinced any Top 60 team can beat any other team in a one and done game situation.
KU had a very poor shooting night against ISU. IMO KU wins that match up 8 out of 10 times, maybe 9.
Parody in D1 mens BB is unbelieveable.

As an athletic team averaging 70pts/gm with a 6’5” phenom guard (Cumberland- 18/gm), and only one other double figure scorer (Williams- guard, 10/gm, 28% from 3), I’m thinking Cincinnati is comparable to Indiana without a major post scorer like Morgan. Indiana was the last 4 out, but Cincinnati didn’t play in the B1G. Zone with a guy on Cumberland and we’ve got a chance.

Imagine Cincy looking at this with a wtf vibe:
The Hawkeyes split with Ohio State winning 72-62 and losing 90-70.

The best thing Iowa has going for it in this game is that Cincinnati has yet to play Iowa. By now we should all realize that the yearly late-season slides have a lot to do with teams figuring Iowa out the second time around.

Second best thing is that the B1G is a very, very tough conference, with a variety of playing styles. Iowa, while having its weaknesses, is well-prepared.

Third best thing is Michigan, their best win, humbled them this time around. That should make for a good week of practice.

Fourth best thing is that Iowa has a full week to rest/practice/prepare while Cincinnati had a deeper conference tourney run.

Hopefully Cincinnati is a little overconfident with a quasi home-court advantage and this becomes a disadvantage when the rest of the fans, Iowa's and the others, start to pull for the Hawks. I've been to many NCAA first weekends—my favorite part of the experience is always this, when the entire arena starts pulling, and pulling hard, for the upset. It's awesome.

Iowa has a record of 5 wins and 8 losses to teams
in the NCAA that we have played this season.
Our wins are Oregon, Connecticut, Iowa State,
Michigan and Ohio State. Hawkeyes have a good
chance to upset Cincy with a hot shooting day from
3 point land.

UConn didn’t make it.

After watching YouTube video of them I think this might be pretty close.....Rutgers with a 6’ 5” High level scorer at the wing.

I don’t see that. Rutgers has a lot of big front court depth. That’s what gave Iowa fits.

Their guards are shorter, 5-10 and 6'-0". That'll help. Lately we have had a 6-5+ long player guarding JBo, and that does not bode well for Iowa... Especially when your backup guards cannot shoot....or do not have the confidence to shoot, like Dailey(if he had the confidence, he would be good as he has a decent shot).

Not sure who will guard Cumberland mostly. Moss? Joe W? There will be a few on him. Hopefully we can shadow him well enough.

I am curious how our Bigs will do against Cinns. Cook will have some size against their 4 spot. But can he have the quickness to defend AND rebound??
Garza will be the same.... Although neither should have to worry about guarding the outside much at all...knock on wood.

Either way, love this! Tourney time baby!
