I believe every team needs a player that can get points on his own. A go to scorer that you can feed when shot clock is winding down, or when defense has locked down and you need points. I think its crucial (some may not).

Who is that guy this year?

Don't think it's going to be just one guy. JB and Cook are going to try and seize those moments when they happen. If Moss feels the confidence to do so, I think he's shown signs that he will too. His aggression to make things happen is a key this year.

I feel like it's Bohannon. He can shoot from anywhere, can get his shot off in all types of situations, and is a good enough passer to recognize when someone else has a better shot.

Either way, it beats the old way of Marble, Uthoff, White and/or Jok standing around and watching Gesell dribble.

I think Tyler will win plenty of games for Iowa. Will they be last minute shots to win games? Time will tell.
I really meant a guy that can break down a defense and get a score when game is muddied in half court game or offense is struggling. I dont see him as that type of player - a pure scorer for lack of a better term.

I think Moss will be primed for a jump now that Pete's gone. He's got the size and athleticism to do a crossover and go to the basket to draw contact. End of game scenario you're still running with JB.

Bohannon is currently the coolest cucumber on the block. Therefore, I would go with him.

Ideally though, someone else needs to emerge. The scenario I'm interpreting calls for a taller and more athletic sort.

And what I just wrote shortchanges what Jordan did last year. People couldn't stop him, even when they knew to look for him. So, Jordan.

But, someone else needs to emerge, also.

There won't be any one go to guy. I think there will be 3 or 4 go to guys on offense at all times. So it will boil down to who has the defensive miss match.

Fran gives the green light to most of his players to shoot. There might be one or two at the end of the game that don't, but I think they will be on the bench at that moment.

Cook is already a very dangerous driver. If he adds a consistent shot to go with that, he becomes really hard to stop.

If he doesn't improve his ft shooting, Cook may not be on the floor. Could a 6' 10" Nunge get his shot off over a three at will?

Yea this^^^.....Cook and Moss both. What game was that last year where Moss attacked at the rim a couple of times with contact and still was able to spin and finish .... damn was that impressive and Cook can use either hand at the rim and of course dunk the ball too......both of them. Ya better get out of their way....

They play above the rim but we've got a bunch of players who can play above it. Gets me excited just thinking about the possibilities.

Isaiah Moss could be that guy, but for some reason I still have faith that CW has the light go on and begins to use all that length and talent .

I agree on Moss but the only question mark with him is can he be consistent in both his play and confidence. He strikes me as a really streaky player. Love his potential though.

I do not agree on CW... the guy can't shoot it outside of 15 feet and does not have a great feel for the game as a PG. I'm much higher on Dailey contributing if he gets the chance.

What might make this team really good is that there could be multiple options at crunch time. JBo can score if given any opening, and isn't afraid of the moment. Moss has the skills to shoot or drive. If you can get the ball on the blocks, Cook and Pemsl can score or get fouled. That doesn't even consider the new guys or players who can hit open shots, like Ellingson and Kriener.

Besides the need to get better defensively, my only BIG worry is that JBo could get hurt. Unless CW becomes a lot more aggressive with the ball, no JBo would be a big problem.

Remember last year in late clock situations... it wasn't always Jok. We dropped the ball down to cook with a few seconds left a few times. Bohannon pulled up for 3 (which either goes in or can create a scramble for a rebound with our forwards ready).

As mentioned, Moss seems able to break people down off the dribble, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Dailey flash that ability at times this year (I don't know that he'll get the plays drawn for him, but we'll see).

This team has more options than normal. Remember the days of watching Marble or Gesell go 1-1 with 8 seconds left? Uthoff started to see more success, Jok was able to hit some pull up shots, and Bohannon/Cook proved to be able to score 1-1 as well last year.

Jok was not very good at creating his own shot or even moving to get the ball in late game situations. His loss mainly impacts the new number one option on the perimeter, who will draw the other team's best defender.
