Congratulations from Rutgers Nation

He would certainly be if this were the 90s. I want him out of the draft talks anyway. ;)
i don't think many of us thought Cook would be floating between the G League and the NBA. So who knows when it comes to Garza.

I agree in that I don't think he has the foot speed to keep up but again, who knows. There are stupid teams like the Timberwolves who use lottery picks on players like Luc Longley.

Best coached? I agree. Also, I believe Fran deserves a raise, extension, and larger buyout.

Your thoughts? :)

It's funny that we worry so much about our coaches being hired away and that these are stepping stone jobs. Then you realize that we are far and away the best conference in basketball and wonder where these guys can step up to. We will surely give Pike a raise if we make the tournament but he has stated many times that there is nowhere he would rather coach and there is only so much difference a few more dollars can make. Have to imagine Fran and fam live pretty well out there and with his two boys in the program, he isn't going anywhere for a while

never realized how good Kreiner was - what a nice complement to Garza., Yoiu guys are built for a nice run .

Have to ask, is McCaffrey really as big as a d-bag as we non Hawks think he is. He went nuts at halftime when Iowa tried fouling us and we passed out of the triple team and scored a bucket (he was 100% right, but got T-d up - and I have seen him act like an a-hole many times on the sidelines)

Great coach though, and has produced some good off-spring
Fran's a Philly guy. When he first came to Iowa, he made it be known that he was going to fight for his guys and was not going to take crap from the refs.

Iowa got screwed over many times in his early years, especially against Michigan State. We'd get mugged on one end and get called for a ticky tack foul on the other. The players could not do anything about it but he could, as coach.

Has he crossed the line sometimes? Yes. And he's been suspended as a result.

In the Rutgers game situation you are talking about, I am pretty sure he told the refs that they were going to foul; Iowa obviously fouled and nothing got called and RU got a lay up at the horn. In that situation, he got mad, of course. He simply expects the refs to be somewhat competent at their job.

In addition, watch Izzo, Coach K and others of that stature on the sidelines. Do you see much difference between them and Fran in terms of how they behave?

btw, just some outside insight. We at RU NY/NJ all forsee Myles Johnson as being a late first rounder or early second rounder by as early as next year. Myles cant even breathe on the same court as Garza but I know everyone keeps talking about his ceiling and wingspan that are NBA ready. I know you think Garza might be a step slow, but the guy can shoot the 3 and is a prototypical Euro center with a bit more size, if he gets you guys past the Sweet 16, and with this years draft being the worst in years, I cant believe he wont be at least a guaranteed 2cd round pick by some smart team, if not a late first rounder

Apparently you forgot about me telling you to shut your whore mouth up. So let this be your friendly reminder.

In all seriousness though, we Iowa fans have debated this quite a bit on this board. Look around and you will see some threads. The reality is that none of us know what he will do. But obviously, we all hope he stays.

here is one of many threads we have had regarding Garza and his decision. His dad seems to want him to stay.

did you know C Vivian Stringer coached at Iowa prior to RU?

her husband died of a heart attack on Thanksgiving years ago. if that had not happened, i think she'd still be at Iowa.

yes, that is about the only thing that Iowa ever gave us, after you plundered our state for football players like Shonn Greene, Akrum Wadley and Ihmir Marsette

And yes, the foul that never got called at the end of the half was a total joke, especially that it happened at Iowa City. We laughed about it our boards, because we are always the ones getting screwed (you can even google the RU Screw - its a thing) so seeing it happen to someone else, and for Coach Mac to get T-d up on top of it was a rare bit or irony. You guys are lucky that you didnt have to play us at home this year, there is just something magical about the RAC that gives our players extra confidence - we came back from down 18 against NW with 12 minutes to go to beat them 2 games ago

I mean Iowa created their own magic at the RAC last season and also came back to beat NU from being down 15 with 4:30 left in the game last year.

Sometimes Fran wears his emotions on his sleeve, and he's judged harshly by some for that. All you have to do is look at the work he does for cancer, and other charities, and the type of high character guys he brings into the program to know where his values lye. Many of his players have strong religious beliefs, and are good students.

Watch the Jack Devlin segment of the Journey, and you'll see a different side to Fran and our program.

in fairness they were missing their best player and leading scorer...Really need to beat Michigan at home on Weds to be comfortable getting off the bubble. If Maryland had Pike or McCaffrey, they would easily be the best team in the BIG - have never seen a coach do more with less

Should be a great tournament - I think Michigan St, Maryland and Iowa should be co-favorites, with PSU Michigan and right behind.....Unfortunately, I dont think Rutgers can win away from the RAC, and Illinois is not as good as their ranking. OSU is a good 3 point shooting team, that could get bounced on their first game or go all the way, depending on how hot or cold they are

Wow. Thanks for the high praise.

Never would have thought I'd hear that said after Bohannon's last game and then the other injuries (no bench), CJF's recurring ankle problems and what not. What a crazy good year this has been, despite all the adversity.

Good luck to RU the rest of the way - unless they match up with the Hawks in the BTT. And if you guys could beat Wisky, PSU and Maryland, that'd be much appreciated. :)

I’m a diehard Hawkeye basketball fan and have been sick of Fran’s antics for years. What is really strange is that as much as he can act like a classless asshat on the court, he is engaging, articulate, and gracious with the media.

How he interacts with the media is his saving grace for me. Most coaches that get as worked up on the sidelines as he does also treat the media like garbage for asking necessary questions. Fran is pretty good at not letting his frustration on the court carry over to the media interviews after the game.
