Still haven't figured out why everyone had their panties in a bunch about this guy. Hawk defense made him look very average. Pundits saying he is a high draft pick but honestly I'm not impressed. Ryan Leaf 2.0... Maybe I'm way off base but color me unimpressed.

Overall, however, Michigan State's star quarterback spent most of Saturday night playing without his fastball.

His right shoulder was wrapped tightly in a protective brace underneath his shoulder pads. Most of his throws down the field seemed to lack the type of zip he typically displays.

"Obviously I wasn't 100 percent," Cook conceded afterward. "(But) I've got to grit it out being in a situation like this, playing for a championship.

"You have to go out there and compete."

Cook tried his best throughout the game to keep his shoulder warm when he wasn't on the field. He tossed the ball around as much as he could and tried to stay loose. But, for the most part, it looked like a struggle.

….definitely didn't deserve the MVP. And when he received it, it showed he didn't deserve it. No respect. Goes 50% (16 for 32) and really doesn't do much to lead the team to victory…besides hand the ball off.

The MVP should have went to that freshman running back or Calhoun. Both special players and that effort from a freshman on the big stage is the real deal.

People with "grit" as he proclaims about himself don't offer up excuses about "not being 100%".

He was the least impressive part about MSU last night. Career back up at best. Did I mention that he's a classless douche? Congrats to the Spartans that were the real MVP's. This guy was a joke.

Agreed. He got the MVP as a lifetime achievement award. There were several others more deserving of the honor. Beathard's numbers were better than his and nobody is making a case for him to have won it.

Cook's second worst game of the season if looking at QB Rating…

1) Maryland 52.3 QBR
2) Iowa 93.9 QBR

Cook's shoulder is injured so he could barely throw last night. Healthy he has a great arm and hopefully he'll be healthy for the playoffs.

So since he was "injured" he deserved the MVP for that performance? I'm not taking anything away from his game, but dang, Sparty had guys that deserved it way more than he did IMO.

He probably didn't deserve it but it's not like he makes the call. He played with a bum shoulder on his throwing arm. He's like 21 years old and trying to win. Give him a break.

I didn't expect Cook to have a huge day with his shoulder and Iowa's secondary. Gotta give Iowa credit for outstanding play.

NFL defenses will eat him alive. I stand by my original post. Not impressed. Time will tell I guess but CJB outplayed him

Great game Hawkeyes. Absolutely no gloating here. Huuuuuuuggggge sigh of relief. Most of the Spartans sharing the game with me thought Iowa would stuff us on the goal line. It would have been the fitting end for a season where we won a couple late and lost one late. It would've been evened out.

But it wasn't.

Agree with you all here that Cook was not the MVP. LJ Scott earned it. 17 touches in that final drive. You guys are good tacklers. You practice every day vs tough runners. That Scott kid just bulled through for those guys. Just greatness vs greatness. Anyone will tell you when you have a beast at RB and you know where it's going and the D doesn't it's near impossible to stop them from going 3 yds if you've got 4 shots at it. If the roles were reversed the outcome would have been in your favor.

I thought Ferentz and Dantonio coached great at the end. Tremendous clock management and smart use of time outs.

Beathard scared me all night. Thought Iowa should have tried to go deep more often. Obviously pocket time was iffy, but Beathard is going to be the best 1-2 QBs in B1G next year. I thought there would be more points scored, but it was just as close I thought it would be.

Thought the referreeing was equally bad. No huge glaring no calls or bad calls. I saw a lot of no calls on both sides. If we had lost I guess would have had some arguments to make. Don't blame you for having some.

Iowa didn't get beat. They lost the game but unquestionably the Hawkeyes were every bit the equal of MSU. I'm sure it's painful and suspect words of encouragement and respect from a Spartan probably rings hollow. Doesn't change things. But I will say it was an honor to play in that game with you guys. I really, sincerely hope you guys get the Rose Bowl. I don't have strong feelings for Urban Meyer. Go to Pasadena.....could be worse door prize I guess.....and stomp Stanford for us fellow B1G followers. Wherever you end up I'll watch your game and pull for the Hawkeyes.

He was the best this year when he was healthy.

A bit of an exaggeration but pretty accurate. They were just a little bit better at most positions.

My real point was the narrative before the game was that Cook was great and Beathard was a "game manager" when in reality Cook is pretty good but CJ is the most explosive QB in the league.
