Connor similiar to Mathew Dellavedova??

All I know is that he came right in and was pointing at guys to get them into position. The team looked way more at ease just knowing he was available. He was supposed to play an important role on this team and when he was unavailable it apparently changed everyone's comfort level. I see us causing havoc, if we stay healthy, in the BIG rest of the year.

Dellavedova is a top 20 defensive guard in the league. Iowa needs that so if he can defend like Dellavedova that would be a plus.

Garza is similar to Porzingis. Nunge is similar to Markkanen.
Haha!
These crazy comparisons are always good for a laugh.

I thought Connor looked good in that he was confident in what he wanted to do, looked crisp in execution, seemed to understand spacing. In a short time he demonstrated better court awareness than I'd seen from anyone else on the team this year. But it was against a terrible team that had flown in with zero days rest. And compared to his teammates who had to this point looked as if they had no previous fundamental foundation.
To compare him at this point to guy who gets extended minutes in the NBA is just silly.

I am most similar to Jeff Van Grundy...thinning hair and my most memorable defensive play was laying on the floor trying to hold on to an actual player by the ankle! (By the way, I hate Van Grundy as a color commentator. Actually prefer Mark Jackson of that pair.)

Dellavedova wasn't a starter at Cleveland and I'm not sure starts for Milwaukee. - heard recently Milwaukee was looking to move him.
He isn't the quickest guy at 6'4" but there is a lot of fight in that dog

What good would it do to compare him to a back up collegiate player that nobody has heard of?

Comparisons to pro players are made to compare styles, not equivalency.

You can't argue with stupid. Most know that a comparison is just that..."player X has a similar game to player Y." Guys like SDDoc can't fathom the comparison probably because he's never heard of Dellavedova.

Its funny though because hes probably bottom 20 athletically.

Just goes to show defense isnt all about athleticism.

Delly is a tough and extreemly smart SOB and wont be outworked.

To the negative Nelly's you usually always are wrong in the long run. You never learn though and in the end you are called on it. You just go negative on someone else. Man I hate to be right and wish it wern't so because it gets overwhelming sometimes on this board.

Unfortunately the negative opinions were all mostly correct about this group.

uhhhh in reality he was supposed to redshirt.

yeah just Fran and Connor both saying he was going to reshirt. but what the hell do they know?

The post seemed to mean because CW had transferred out, there was change of plans and there was no intention to RS Connor. I think everyone knows the original plan was to RS Connor.

Garza plays defense like a giant 2 year old who just learned to walk yesterday.

He makes Adam Woodbury look like Anthony Davis.

Woody was actually a solid defender. Some seem to think otherwise because he didn't block a bunch of shots, but he played good position defense.

Yes I know. He was way ahead of any of our guys here now.

He actually moved his feet really well for his size and knew where he should be and what all the responsibilities were.

In comparison Garza is the most lost guy on D ive ever seen.

Exactly...so he reminds me of this guy. :D

Adam Woodbury immediately made Iowa a good defensive team the day he stepped on campus. The team was not good defensively before he arrived nor have they been good after he left. He had really good lateral quickness for a guy his size and he just understood good defensive basketball and essentially was the PG calling out the defensive rotations from the backside. He may not have been the best individual defender at Iowa but he was the most valuable defensive player Iowa has had in a long long time.

Hustle player, System player, Heady player, can penetrate some, can shoot the 3, very good and willing passer, understands what is going on and what needs to be done. calming when things get chaotic. Doesn't lose his head. will fight you to the end
great description

I would take comparing guys to Jeff Horner, Andre Woolridge, Jess Settles, Cy Tate, and Reggie Evans. It's sobering to see freshman on other teams look more accomplished than sophomores and juniors at Iowa. Davison at WI is not super athletic, but he is tough and takes it at guys with his physicality. Our guards have 0 ability to do anything resembling dribble penetration. If the PG play doesn't improve soon, I may to have to break out a Cully Payne reference.
