3rd qtr way to conservative we gave up field position. Overall we played a conservative game untIL we had to change. Daniels should not have ran this game bad match up. Kill me if you want but either way hell of a game I'm still going to the bowl game go Hawks!!!!!!!! My heart aches for these guys

Shut up. We lost by 3 and it was a nail biter. It could have gone either way. We didn't lose because we're too conservative. We lost because the time ran out. Just shut up!!

We were up then got grinded on for 9 minutes give or take. Props to MSU for being able to sustain a drive like that.

Tough way to lose. The defense played so great. Then we got aggressive when we needed to in the fourth and then decided to play conservative and not go on the 4th and 2. Who could have seen the longest drive of the FBS season coming? It's easy to 2nd guess, but that was our shot as it turns out. Damn heartbreaking.

U could argue we should have given them the TD with 2 min left, but defense got us to that point in the game and despite 1 play offense sucked it up

We went for the kill up 4 with many deep shots. Just a very tough loss. Great season.

We lost because our OL got dominated and we turned the ball over in the red zone. Not conservative play calling. We had 60ish rushing yards. We don't win football games that way

The roughing the kicker penalty changed the whole dynamic of the second half. That was the turning point in the game, by flipping the field, which jazzed up the MSU defense and pushed us into conservative mode the whole second half. And, I am not sure that was really a penalty. It looked like the punter got his leg down before there was any contact.

The real only gripe I have is that Wadley should have had all the carries in the second half.

I thought IA played a great game and this one could have gone either way. So close that there are literally a dozen plays for both sides where you're left thinking, "what if". IA played very sound on both sides of the ball and congrats on playing a game that will be talked about for a decade as it was this good.

We didn't test them deep until the 4th and then found it open. However we didn't get the ball much the 4th to capitalize off of it. 3rd qtr we were way to conservative. We got coservative on D that last possession as well. Hate on me all you want but we were. Either way I'm proud of our guys.

Watch that 3rd qtr again. MSU had field position and we let let have it. We gave up an entire qtr.

The reason Iowa had bad field position was because they went for punt block, which was the conservative call. Got it.

By rulebook, it should have been the 5-yard running into the kicker, as he had both feet on the ground when contact occurred. MSU would have punted again, and the whole complexion of the 3rd quarter would have been different.

I don't think it was a matter if getting conservative. We had trouble getting a push against the strength of their D, their D line, and we struggled to sustain drives. Meanwhile, they were moving the ball in us, even though we held them out of the end zone until that last brutally painful drive.

Sometimes you just tip your cap to your opponent. MSU is extremely good in all phases and dominated the 3rd quarter. If not for a few key plays, we probably win the darn thing anyway. I agree the roughing call was huge. The interception in the end zone was as huge as it was freakish. MSU converted a few huge 3rd downs that easily could have stalled that last drive. Tons of huge plays that swung the game for them, and clearly some that went in our favor.

Really don't think going conservative was what happened or what cost us the game. Lots of other factors did.

Oline got dominated. Running backs were getting hit in backfield. Stop blaming backs and learn some football. I don't think 30 was blocked all night.

Wait so we only took three shots down field the entire game all of which were in the 4th qtr. 1 went for a TD, another would have been a TD if not for a penalty and the last was a pressure throw and pepole are saying we weren't too conservative haha. The 3rd qtr we just waved a white flag. Come on guys.

Agree with all this

We didn't go deep until the 4th quarter. Not to mention absolutely zero playaction and an absolutely moronic call to block the punt.

Iowa won games all year by re-establishing the run in the 3rd quarter and building a cushion. MSU didn't let that happen. Going with the script that has gotten them to 12-0 is the exact opposite of waving the white flag. It meant that Iowa would have to do something different. That's why Iowa reacted and took the top off the defense early in the 4th quarter.

I agree with this but that's why uou need to be more aggressive on O to make up for the loss.

As it turns out we switched from conservative to aggressive too late on O and from aggressive to conservative on D at the wrong time and we lost.

It didn't matter who was running the ball. Their D-line was controlling our O-line. Plus our WR's can't get separation.

Was it conservative or aggressive when Canzeri broke off those third quarter TDs a week ago? Iowa wanted to do the same thing to MSU. Nothing more, nothing less. Defensively, Iowa blitzed the safety more and played more aggressive coverage than any other game this year. Iowa was ONE break (out of a ten or more possible breaks) away from beating a very good MSU team, some that were under their control, and some that weren't. Conservative had nothing to do with it.

I honestly hate to argue with you but the one thing I will say is that last series on D we went back to the bend but don't break D we typically ran all season and switched out of the risky but affective D we ran all game. As a result we gave up yds and got gassed. I'm not pissed I'm actually very proud of this team right now and plan on supporting them at the bowl in person.

I'm in the same place in how I feel about the team and the season. I just think it was a combination of the defense being on the field too long (which we agree on and have gone over ad nauseam) AND a change in MSU's offensive approach.

And with regard to Iowa's coverage, if King comes back and Ott gets a medical redshirt, how salty will Iowa's defense be if they trust the corners to cover throughout the season like they did tonight? Only major concern would be replacing the leadership of Meier and Lomax.

But before I look too far forward, I really want Stanford. Similar brands of football, but I think Iowa is tougher and better at it.

CJ had a very small amount of time to pass in the pocket the whole game, but we never tried playaction. Doesn"t make any sense.

This game could be a double loss for Iowa. Before this game many NFL guys thought King was a guy that projected outside the top 5 rds. After tonight I could see a team taking him inside the top 5 rds and that might give him a reason to leave. He still isn't top 2 or 3 but...

As impressive as his coverage was, his best play was when he took on an OL to set the edge on a run play. It's not often you see a CB do that.
