I seem to recall after Tyler Cook's Soph season he made the claim that he was unstoppable. Sorry Mr. Cook but I prefer Mr. Garza's unstoppable game over yours.

What are you trying to gain? If you want Tyler Cook to know your opinion of you preferring Garza you'd probably have better luck tweeting at him to let him know. You seem like that type of guy. I'm sure Tyler is losing so much sleep knowing you prefer Garza.

Not sure why OP is even necessary.
Because on this site we enjoy talking about how our current players are so much better than past players, instead of appreciating what past players brought to the table and did for the program, and appreciating what our current players are doing now separately. Just like the contingent who like to tell everybody how much of an upgrade CJF is over Moss... as if we wouldn’t take Moss or Cook back on this team in two seconds

Hold on: we also enjoy ripping on current players too. I would say whining, complaining, and ripping on players past, present, or future is enjoyed somewhat equally.

Carlton Reed — my goodness — he was fast with the ball but never had any idea where he was going.

Putting Moss and Cook back on this team would make this team VERY VERY good, like scary dangerous good (even with the warts they would bring with them). This squad is an athletic 4 away from being near the top of the BIG IMO.

Totally agree. I was as negative about Moss while he was here as when he was gone. I have been very vocal of what I did not like about him as a player at Iowa. I wanted him to be good and I am sure he was a nice guy and a good teammate but I just didn't enjoy his game and he frustrated me as a fan. I never wished him ill will and I still don't.

That being said, I don't see the point in starting a thread like this where it looks like there might be a reasonable debate about players (which I am fine with) and instead just an excuse to give a quick throw-off bash of Cook.

You aren’t wrong. It would be nice if people were more supportive/appreciative of all players past and present. If we don’t have a Big Ten quality player, that falls on the coach, who is responsible for building the team and utilizing his players in the best fashion to win games. Fran should be subject to scrutiny. The athletic department should be subject to scrutiny. People should lay off the players a bit.

And there is a difference between discussing player strengths and weaknesses, and how they could/should be utilized, and some of the excessive condescending comments which are posted so freely here. Just my opinion

Did not bash the guy at all. Luka Garza has never made a claim he is unstoppable, Tyler Cook did... I feel when Garza gets the ball in his low post position he is unstoppable.

Its OK to appreciate what Garza is doing without ripping on Cook. His power and explosiveness was something not seen too often in an Iowa uniform. All players have flaws and weaknesses. I am a fan of what both contribute(d) to the program.

Very much appreciated what Tyler brought to the Hawkeyes.
That being said, the numbers aren't really comparable, with what
Luka has been able to do, this season.

GO HAWKS !!!!

Neither. I will take unstoppable Uthoff over both.

Cook could elevate but Garza has a better inside-outside game.
When Garza made that reverse lay-up the other night I was thinking that if that was Cook making that move, it would have have been a rim-rocker.
Garza puts a lot of work and effort into his game and it obviously shows. Cook maybe not as much and not taking anything away from him.

Especially right about now. When the starters are on the floor there are more guys in suits, then in uniforms on the bench. May get interesting in a few weeks without some good fortune.

not sure why you feel the need to post this.....

Cook and Garza were not a good compliment to each other on either end of the court.

Both needed to operate in the same space offensively and both lost on the defensive end.

Garza has a much better inside game by itself too.

First of all, how does anyone on here know what kind of work Cook put in off the court? Love all the stereotypes of Garza being a hardworking guy and Cook being just an athlete. He didn’t get where he was by just stepping on the court. Guessing he’s worked on his game a little.

If referring to my comment, not what I meant when I said Garza never quits. I meant that he is just so persistent on a play. Nothing to do with their off court work effort. I love cook and don’t question his work effort at all.

Not you. Cleotis said Garza puts a lot of work into his game and Cook maybe not so much. My point is we have no idea really how hard Cook did or didn’t work. And please find the quote where he stated he was unstoppable.

If Cook had been able to develop a mid-to-long range jumper, he might have been unstoppable imo. 5 feet and in, if he wanted to, he could dunk on almost anyone. I like Garza's overall game better because he has that outside jumper that helps open up the paint. Cook, opponents could lay off and not fear his jumper.
