cop hesitates and nearly pays the ultimate price

meh. Just because you shouldn't shoot people in the back doesn't mean you should be unable to prevent someone from taking your gun and beating you with it. It's a weak excuse by that department. Cops should be able to do their jobs without having to shoot people unjustifiably. If they can't do that then they shouldn't be cops.

He got sucker-punched and the gun was then taken. I never said to shoot anyone in the back.

Baltimore is feeling the pain of cops backing off. I could see other "trouble" spots receiving the same reaction soon.

And I never agree with this guy, but this needed quoted.

Please clarify if I misunderstand the facts.

Cop is attacked.
Cop doesn't shoot the guy.
Cop is alive, bad guy is alive and known.

Can you help me find the outrage? Is he saying he would have killed him but for the headlines?

Does that mean it is working? But really, see post above.

The outrage is all the idiots who stood there taking pictures and then tweeting them as opposed to helping out the officer.

Another thing I can agree with, this thread isn't fun.
It's okay man. We'll all be disagreeing again soon enough. I'm pretty sure I've sided with, and against, every poster on this board at times.

And I also agree that those tweeting pictures rather than assisting are sick. Even though I am very critical of cops, I would have assisted this one if I was there.

I have a question for all you police-haters out there:

I'm a police officer. An unarmed man tackles me and has me on my back with his hands around my neck. He's the same size as me or maybe even a little smaller. I pull my gun and shoot the guy in the chest/stomach, killing him.

Am I justified in killing this unarmed attacker?

I say yes. If you feel your life is in danger you should be able to defend it, by any means necessary. As well as anyone around you if they see this happening.

I am not a cop hater, just wanted my say.

Of course?

Sad that you think this is a serious question.

I guess if I was the cop, I would have blown whatever brains the perp had clean out of his head, and asked questions later. Cops need to be able to do their jobs, and that includes defending themselves. This is getting ridiculous.
