Look at Carl's practice, training and student lounging, etc facilities compared to ours. Is there any way to double our space without moving out of CHA? I definitely would not want them to move from CHA to do so. Thoughts?

Be the first to send in a check.

Didn't Iowa just put in new hot and cold baths a couple years ago and clean up the wrestling room / weights this summer?

I didnt know we had recruiting woes. It has been on the upswing. One young man who never signed does not make woes. A week ago everyone was excited about our new recruits and how recruiting was improved. One wishy washy young man and we have woes? That being said new facilities would be great. They cant hurt.

I agree, we will get another elite lower weight guy to pair up with Lee. Iowa has a knack for finding and developing lower weight wrestlers. That is a given.

The only way that happens is if they build a new basketball/volleyball facility that would allow for the wrestling program to take over much of the space the basketball team consumes. Carver is not a great arena for basketball, but is probably the best in the nation for wrestling.

This would cost a bunch of money, but could be offset by hosting more concerts and such at the new facility the way Carver used to 20-30 years ago.

If a recruit is going to be "Wowed" by a facility, he's coming to your school for the wrong reasons.
Yeah, but he's coming to your school, and that's what wins at every level with every sport. If you don't have the Joe's, you aren't winning the big ones.

Sweaty: I agree with you almost completely.

At times in football it's almost an arms race and as we have seen inthe past 10 or so years, our football facilities, both practice and stadium are now phenomenal.

Is it fair to compare football to wrestling? Maybe not. With that said, I am sure most other D1 wrestling facilities pale by comparison to our own, but as several other posters have stated, ours could certainly use a facelift.

But to your point, The wrestlers that we want or need are choosing us for facilities & Teasdale didn't originally commit to Iowa for our facilities and he didn't de-committ because of PSUs.

GO HAWKS!!

Maybe Iowa should switch to fight shorts and a rash guard too? For good measure.

Not completely familiar with Iowa campus. Is there room for a stand alone wrestling facility to be built?

Ohio State is beginning construction on one in May.

In all sports facilities are important. Not the most important, but important nonetheless.

Maybe Iowa should relocate to a state with a large international airport only minutes away from their school. Some state farther East that's closer to Ohio or Pennsylvania, where majority of the nations best HS wrestlers are.

I would assume u would still compete there. Was referring more to new Locker room, lounge, coaching offices , recovery center, weight room and practice space type of facility.

I haven't been in your facilities and have only seen your wrestling room. The wrestling room seems fine. Others are stating locker room is outdated and discussed the potential of stand alone facility. I just asked if there would be room.

I beleive currently Cornell has the nation's only stand alone wrestling facility. But they don't have to worry about fitting 15,000 in it for a big meet either.
