Could a facilities upgrade help with recruiting woes?

The facilities is about as far down the list of Iowa's issues as the amount of gas currently in the team bus. It's a non-factor.

It was a dungeon for years and years, a dungeon full of National Champions, and nobody gave a damn, including those National Champions. It's better now and we haven't sniffed a Title in 7 years. Call me crazy, but it ain't the facilities.

They really need to get phone charging stations in the shitters...Rumor is that is what swayed Teasdale because when he was at Carver working out, went in to take a dump and his phone's juice ran out on him. Last time he ever set foot in our wrestling room.
This isn't the first elite recruit we've lost due to lack of phone charging accessibility... It's a serious issue.

Actually, I think facilities are an issue. It's a different age from the 80's and 90's, and facilities matter more these days than they used to -- unfortunately. A state-of-the-art wrestling facility is one of several aspects of recruiting, but PSU has one and tOSU is building theirs. When top recruits put together all of the pieces as they assess one program against another, I do think facilities matter. Certainly not as much as quality of the coaching staff, quality of work-out partners, team chemistry, and how much dodgeball they play, but it's a factor, like it or not -- much more than back in the Gable years.

Speaking of recruiting, I hope every Iowa fan realizes that each of us can make a difference. DONATE TO THE HWC!!! If every Iowa wrestling fan gave just $100 to the HWC, it would be flush with cash -- dare I say a slush fund? -- and in a much better position to bring in more studs to the club and support them. And a strong HWC translates into a strong Iowa program.

I'm actually serious. We have the biggest and most passionate fan base in college wrestling. I really don't think most Iowa fans know what a difference they can make by just donating to the HWC. Every little bit helps, and if a little bit comes from each of tens of thousands of Iowa fans, it will make a HUGE difference. So come on, Hawk fans! Let's support these guys!

Can you please tell me what the state of the art facilities at PSU entail? The Iowa facilities are not flashy but are by no means chopped liver.

My uncle donated millions to upgrade Carver, but he's passed away, plus did it because he's a big basketball fan, didn't care much for wrestling. Maybe I can convince my aunt to break from family tradition and be the "sugar mommy" of Iowa wrestling and HWC! :D
Go for it,;)

You may be right, damn shame as far as I'm concerned.

Homeless people beg less than Universities and Professional Sports Teams.

In 2 years time your brand spanking "new" facility is obsolete, and needs to be upgraded before you "fall too far behind the Jones's" again, according to somebody. Frankly it's ridiculous.

Nothing a mere several million dollars off the Free Money Tree won't fix. Sorry, but I'm sure there are some damn nice facilities in America where the teams that play in them absolutely suck. Death and Taxes kind of a thing.

I have it on good authority that one blue chipper told me that he came to Iowa because he wanted big crowds to perform in front of. Facilities were never mentioned. Of course, who the workout partners and coaches were was important to him too.

"What's my motivation"- everyone wants to win a national title. Facilities would be way down the list of things to consider.

Just an article about a recent upgrade. Here's an important point from the article though:

However, Sanderson knows that facilities aren’t everything.

Facilities don’t win national championships. It’s your attitude,” he said. “As grateful as we are, kids don’t come here if we have a hot and cold tub. If they do, they probably aren’t the right kids.

“We want kids to come here because they see the way our guys compete and see our kids love to wrestle. It’s just a little thing that helps out and makes things nicer.”

Our coaches would NEVER use facilities as an excuse-- but it is a fact that Iowas Wrestling facilities are 6-7 best in the nation..
