Could family, NIL, and team success keep Murray another year?

Let's see... A few $K in NIL vs $5 million in 1st year salary. Hmm..... That's a tough one.. Let me get back to you on that after I've had a chance to think about it.

He will sign way more in the NBA...family and friends will understand why he leaves after this year. Cheers and GO HAWKS!

Huge donors... Come on down.

Maybe I can talk to our CEO into doing a $5 million commercial. One days work 😄

The only thing that would keep Keegan at Iowa next year is if Keegan has a yearning desire to come back. The emotional connection is literally the only reason.

The NBA money is bigger than anything he'd make at Iowa. He's a year older than his grade level. He has nothing left to prove at the college level from a skills perspective.

It's been a pleasure watching him and I'm rooting for him to be wildly successful no matter the decision. One of the greatest Hawkeyes of all time!

KM15 absolutely has to enter the draft and is finally getting the national recognition he deserves as being a top 5 player in college basketball. Will be a lottery pick.
Something to ponder, especially with how the nba drafts players based on future projections, could KM24 declare as well?

obviously need > $4 million .... someone sets up a go fund me.. ..even that probaby not enough. Iowa has one shot and only one shot at a deep run with the two Murrays.

There is absolutely a chance Kris could go to the NBA. I think the likelihood is low based on his performance recently but that's only part of the equation.

I absolutely think he'll be evaluated and if he kills it in those evaluations, an NBA team will take a chance on him. He's shown the skills that NBA teams covet with his size.

Keegan is actually "old" by NBA draft standards (which always seems strange to me). He has to go this year.

I think Kris is basically where Keegan was last year. It's not fair to expect anyone to become a POY candidate, but if he makes similar strides and takes on the same role, he'll be in a similar draft position to where Keegan is this year. But if I were in an NBA front office, I'd be thinking the same thing. A team that is already good could draft Kris late in the first round and he could give 12-18 minutes a night as a role player. At 22 years old, it may be worth it to go if he's a late first-rounder instead of playing for Iowa next year to improve his draft stock. Obviously, his first contract wouldn't be as much, but it would get him to what could be a much bigger payday with his second contract a year sooner.

I had a good laugh......My older brother who manages a bar up in the QC called and told me that he had a little "Inside" info that it is not a clear thing that Keegan is gone. I told him there is MAYBE a 1% chance that he would stay. And even THAT was too high. He is a STAR and is going to make a TON OF MONEY!!!!! BTW, man is he well spoken for a College Athlete!!!!

Keegan, if you read this, I love watching you play. You are an all time great Hawk. Selfishly, I would love nothing more than for you to exhaust your eligibility in a Hawkeye uniform.

But….

For the love God man, go get paid!!

I’ve said similar to this before, but any player that would be a lock as a lottery pick but chooses to return to college should have their sanity checked. Guaranteed contract worth millions. He can always finish his last two years of college later in life if he wants to.

As an Iowa fan I’d love to have him back, but I also want him to succeed at the next level to give us something else to root for. Keeping up on Cook, Wieskamp, and Garza’s careers has been great.

Do all of these things get trumped by the lure of the NBA?
Doubtful, but hey, I just want Keegan Murray to do what he wants to do and be successful. How many times in our lives do we get to call the shots, have the leverage and really and truly pursue dreams. A lot of us maybe get a couple shots…..so when one is sitting right there, I’m never going to be mad if the person takes it. Keegan has absolutely earned the opportunity and if he wants to go, I’m all there for it.

As someone else said, if Keegan stays, it’s 100% emotional investment. I’m sure he loves this team and loves the guys. Iowa was the first place to invest in them and it’s extra special because Dad was special here. Playing with his twin could be a pull. I doubt it, given that he’s already a year older than his class and he has literally nothing left to prove in college hoops, but if he stays, I’d be thrilled. If I was someone he’d ask for advice (I’m certainly not), I couldn’t in good conscience advise him to stay.

His best bet would be to come back and put up a great season. I'm not expecting a replica of this year, either. There are chinks in his armor whereas Keegan is as polished as anyone in this year's draft. He's got to show he can perform night in and night out though it doesn't have to be at the Keegan level (unless he wants to be a lottery pick, too). If I'm an NBA team's exec, I'm evaluating Kris on his film and not his genetics. The main reason why is that Keegan is relentless for 40 minutes every game. Kris doesn't have that mentality (yet). Coming back to Iowa is his best bet to develop that consistency. Otherwise, I don't think he'd be drafted as it stands -- unless he blows up in the tournament and takes us to the Final Four. Then, maybe, yeah.
