PSU host OSU then plays Wash, Purdue, MN, Maryland. I would guess PSU runs the table and will be 12-0.

IU plays MSU, MI, at OSU and Purdue. At OSU will not be easy. If IU wins out they are 12-0.

Oregon plays MI, Maryland, WI and Wash. I think Oregon runs the table and goes 12-0.

Two of these teams will meet in the B1G Championship

Here is the million dollar question. Does the B1G just get 3 bids?

If the B1G gets more than 3 invites to the CFP, the top choices would be OSU and/or IL.

OSU plays at PSU and host IU.

IL plays MN, MSU, Rutgers & NW. Can IL run the table? I doubt it.

If OSU loses twice and IL loses once then if Iowa wins out and Mich loses to OSU, then Iowa is in 4th place.

How about a revenge game in Ames?

Just like the NCAA's, the key is who you don't play.

The Iowa St game should have been the last day anyone had thoughts of Iowa in the CFP.

The Ohio St loss combined with them losing to Oregon pretty much eliminated any reasonable tie-breaker scenario for Iowa to get to the BTCG.

For anyone who was still desperately holding on to hope, you'd think that the Michigan St debacle would have opened some eyes.

Yep. After the isu loss I was like well maybe we will pull a miracle and beat osu and get back in the hunt. After that loss I was like well maybe there will be some chaos and we can back our way in. After the msu loss the door was shut and locked. No chance.

It sucks but now the season for me is focused on beating our rivals Wisconsin and Nebraska and doing what we can to get ready for next year.

I agree with all of this. My main hope the rest of the season is to show we can actually have a functional offense so that we have some hope of recruiting WRs and QBs going forward. The season overall has obviously been disappointing but we’ve had moments (generally about 2 quarters per game) where we have had a pretty good offense, so at least we can have some hope that the future is still bright.

Also it would be good to beat Wisconsin and Nebraska just to show we are still ahead of our rivals even in Year 2 of their new coaching staffs.

1. Iowa needs to win out and win the rest of their games by 10+ points and score 23+ points in every game. Probably need to blow Nebraska out too by 21+ too.

2. Iowa needs Ohio State to win out.

3. Iowa needs Penn State to get blown out at home to OSU and then have them lose two more, but they have to be to either Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington... teams we've beaten.

4. Iowa would need Iowa State to lose 1 before Big 12 Championship and then lose in Big 12 championship. No way Iowa is getting over a 1-loss Iowa State, who beat Iowa, that loses in B1g 12 championship, if that's their only loss.

5. Iowa needs Michigan State to qin out.

6. Iowa would need a lot of luck and other help from teams in SEC and ACC too.

I have to admit, I was just tooling around on the college football standings in ESPN (🤮) & I did stumble upon odds of teams that can still win National Title.

Only 45 teams left with betting odds & Iowa was one of them. 🤔

there are bowl games for 4-5 win teams for reasons such as academics/graduation rate. so it’s obvious that one playoff spot should be reserved for the team with the dean of football head coaches

I don't think we have a prayer, even by finishing the regular season at 9-3.

CBS Sports, however, in this November 1 article, says @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset 's hopes (although very slim) are still alive for a CFP berth (and a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP)! ;)

Some excerpts:

An estimated 45-50 teams are still in the hunt for a CFP spot in the expanded field as the calendar turns to November.

Here is a categorization of contenders heading into Week 10. If you disagree, stick around, because things are sure to change.

  • Locks: Miami, Indiana, Oregon, Penn State, Georgia, Texas
  • Probable: Tennessee, Boise State, Clemson, BYU/Iowa State/Kansas State (Big 12 champion), Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M
  • Better Than Expected: SMU, Pittsburgh, Army, Navy, Illinois, UNLV, LSU
  • Still Not Dead: Tulane, Memphis, Colorado, Western Kentucky, Liberty, Colorado State, Louisville, Syracuse, Duke, Ole Miss
  • On The Fringe: Virginia Tech, Sam Houston, Western Michigan, San Jose State, Arizona State, Iowa, Jacksonville State, Fresno State, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Louisiana-Monroe, Washington State, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Arizona State
