They've already been canceled.Jeez, this is real stretch.
When do the Dixie Chicks change their name?
Pixy Stix?Jeez, this is real stretch.
When do the Dixie Chicks change their name?
Why?Jeez, this is real stretch.
When do the Dixie Chicks change their name?
Why?
What's the "A" stand for?
Why is that? Is south off the charts? If "antebellum" is offensive, then "dixie" is off the charts!
If "antebellum" is offensive, then "dixie" is off the charts!

Just eliminate the States south of the Mason/Dixon line and give them back to the Spaniards.
Funny ... the same thought popped into my head when I thought of this group:
They've already been canceled.
The South is still a celebration of pre war south aka "the good ol days" for those traitors. Shit band whatever stamp they put on itDixie is a reference to Jeremiah Dixon who was a surveyor of the border between Maryland and Pennsylevannia
Antebellum however is a reference the pre-war (Ante - Before, Bellum - War) South which was economically dependent upon slavery.
Naming your group "Lady Antebellum" can be seen a celebration of the pre-war South.
The South wanted to secede peacefully, but nooooooo....
I "get it", but I honestly had to look it up...apparently Antebellum is the pre-Civil War Southern era. So because slavery took place during that period we can't reference it? It's not the era itself that was evil, but something evil transpired during it.Jeez, this is real stretch.
When do the Dixie Chicks change their name?
Do you wish you were back in the land of cotton, old times there are not forgotten? Why is that? Is south off the charts?
This is a good thing. But I really don’t understand how you could live this long and just now realize there is racism in America.
Yes, I’m certain that is exactly what the Dixie Chicks had in mind when naming their group.Dixie is a reference to Jeremiah Dixon who was a surveyor of the border between Maryland and Pennsylevannia
Antebellum however is a reference the pre-war (Ante - Before, Bellum - War) South which was economically dependent upon slavery.

That’s the part I don’t understand. It’s like if I named my organization Jim Crow and years later realized that was racist. I don’t understand how they couldn’t know so I don’t really believe there was no malicious internet. I think it’s more likely they knew what they were doing and are now saying they were ignorant as a cover.I don't know. Seems to me intent matters.
"Lady A" had no malicious intent when they named themselves Lady Antebellum. Kind of a stupid overreaction, I think. But it's their band and it's a free country.
That's what I said when I saw them change the name. Was well that's stupid. People that know the group are going to know the A stood for Antebellum. So should have made the second word something else or at least a different letter. The claim was that they liked the style of houses during that time period so why not go to Lady Architecture or something else. What's the "A" stand for?
I think Lady is also offensive, need to remove that too. Maybe they can just be LA.
Would be interesting to know how they came up with the name. Remember when the conservative right swore up and down that AC/DC meant Against Christ, Devil's Child and Hell's Bells was going to warp the mind of our youth? That’s the part I don’t understand. I think it was Malcolm, not Angus. But, otherwise, you nailed the story.Would be interesting to know how they came up with the name. Remember when the conservative right swore up and down that AC/DC meant Against Christ, Devil's Child and Hell's Bells was going to warp the mind of our youth?
....only for Angus to later say, "I saw AC/DC on the back of my sister's sewing machine and thought that'd be a cool band name." (unless that's urban legend)
I've been thinking the same thing all week. This band has been around for a while and they are just now changing their name because it may be offensive to some? All these new social justice warriors who didn't give a shit two weeks ago are now posting all kinds of things telling everyone else what they should be doing and how they can help. It's sad that most of them are only doing it because it is a trend and they don't want to appear as a racist for not posting something. I'd love to see some of them actually do more than post on social media. Maybe call a community center and see if you can be a mentor or a tutor or something. This is a good thing. But I really don’t understand how you could live this long and just now realize there is racism in America.
