Anyone check on Cowherds facts after his rant on IOWA's out of conference schedule over the past decade as compared to mighty Bama's?

Bama's

2002 Middle Tenn., North Texas, S. Miss. Hawaii.
2003 S. Fla., OU, N. Illinois, S. Miss. Hawaii
2004 Utah St., W. Carolina, S. Miss
2005 Middle Tenn., S. Miss, Utah St.
2006 Hawaii, U Louisiana Monroe, Duke
2007 W. Carolina, Fla. St. (7-6) Houston, U. Louisiana Monroe
2008 Clemson (7-6), Tulane, W. Kent., Arkansas St.
2009 Fla. International, N. Texas, Chattanooga
2010 San Jose St., Duke (3-9) Georgia St., Penn St. (7-6)
2011 Kent St., North Texas, Georgia Southern
2012 W. Kent., Fla. Atlantic, W. Carolina
2013 Colo. St., Georgia St., Chattanooga
2014 Fla. Atlantic, S. Miss, W. Carolina
2015 Mid. Tenn., U. Louisiana Monroe, Charleston Southern

Real murderers row here. What a puttz. And I don't condone some of the teams we've played and wished they would upgrade but when the nation listens to this idiot and doesn't look into any of his drivel it does tend to sway public opinion. Which is what he wants. To get under the skin of a fan base and receive calls from and further his case. Ignore the moron.

I don't understand. What was his point?

At this point things have worked out so it would be a borderline conspiracy if an undefeated BIG team was held out. I don't care who we played out of the conference.

Jason Sehorn is another idiot that does not know anything about anyone except his big nam schools. Talked about we had zero (yes zero) good wins. Talked about how Alabama had so many good wins. When pressed on the SEC teams and where they are today he said "yeah but WHEN Alabama played these teams....." What an idiot. Does not do any prep and sounds like a fool. Doesn't matter if it is Iowa or not.

This is nuts.

Cowherd is very consistent in his view of the world. He likes big name teams with all-world players on them. He does not like upstarts or Cinderella stories. He says this about himself all the time. If Iowa were to somehow win the NC, he would claim that something has to be done to fix the CF playoff system.

Also, he is an entertainer. Period. He is not a CF expert. He is the Rush Limbaugh of sports talk.

He likes to make outrageous claims to support his own likes and dislikes, then try to back them up. He is no different than any other obnoxious sports fan (except he has an audience).

And, he is delighted you hate him.

Alabama's schedule corrected, with team additions bolded. Power 5 teams are underlined.
If you're gonna rip on Alabama's OOC schedule, you should at least be accurate about it.
Teams that made bowl games are in blue.
FCS opponents are in green.
Losses are italicized.

2002 Middle Tenn., Oklahoma, North Texas, S. Miss., Hawaii.
2003 S. Fla. (7-4 no bowl), Oklahoma, N. Illinois (10-2 no bowl), S. Miss., Hawaii
2004 Utah St., W. Carolina, S. Miss
2005 Middle Tenn., S. Miss, Utah St.
2006 Hawaii, U Louisiana Monroe, Duke, Florida Int'l
2007 W. Carolina, Fla. St. (7-6), Houston, Louisiana-Monroe
2008 Clemson (7-6), Tulane, W. Kent., Arkansas St.
2009 Virginia Tech, Fla. International, N. Texas, Chattanooga
2010 San Jose St., Duke (3-9), Georgia St., Penn St. (7-6)
2011 Penn St., Kent St., North Texas, Georgia Southern
2012 Michigan, W. Kentucky, Fla. Atlantic, W. Carolina
2013 Virginia Tech, Colo. St., Georgia St., Chattanooga
2014 West Virginia, Fla. Atlantic, S. Miss, W. Carolina
2015 Wisconsin, Mid. Tenn., Louisiana-Monroe, Charleston Southern

So if we're gonna compare, we should actually, you know, COMPARE.
You can make your own judgments, but I thought it best to put all the information out there.

Iowa's OOC scheduling:

2002 Akron, Miami (OH), Iowa St., Utah St.
2003 Miami (OH), Buffalo, Iowa St., Arizona St.
2004 Kent, Iowa St., Arizona St.
2005 Ball St., Iowa St., UNI
2006 Montana, Syracuse, Iowa St., N. Illinois
2007 N. Illinois, Syracuse, Iowa St., W. Michigan
2008 Maine, Florida Int'l, Iowa St., Pitt
2009 UNI, Iowa St., Arizona, Arkansas St.
2010 Eastern Illinois, Iowa St., Arizona, Ball St.
2011 Tennessee Tech, Iowa St., Pitt, Louisiana-Monroe
2012 N. Illinois, Iowa St., UNI, Central Mich
2013 N. Illinois, Iowa St., Missouri St., W. Michigan
2014 UNI, Ball St. Iowa St., Pitt
2015 Illinois St., Iowa St., Pitt, N. Texas

Here are my judgments:

Both are a little heavy on the green, especially once the 12-game schedule became permanent. Although it appears that Iowa has more Power 5 opponents due to ISU's permanent place on the schedule, Alabama's Power 5 opponents seem to be of a generally higher quality than Iowa's. The Hawks lose too much to the Cyclones, but we already knew that.

The Hawks' OOC strength of schedule always is going to get screwed unless ISU is good, especially if the other Power 5 game goes away once the B1G goes to the 9-game schedule.

Unless the conference switches up the divisions again or Nebraska & Wisconsin or anyone else in the West gets stronger, the Hawks' strength of schedule will remain arguably suspect to outsiders. Northwestern will never be seen as a quality opponent by national media, no matter how good their record is.

Stop giving him attention. That is all he wants.

You all realize why he is now attacking the SEC now, right?

He saw how much attention little old iowa got him. Now he wants the attention from them.

Stop listening to him. Stop reacting to him. Don't reply on twitter. Don't make a game day sign with his name on it.
.be smarter than that

Was the first girl that slapped his ugly face from Iowa? Maybe he's got some resentment other than football for us. I've seen thousands of likes and retweets of his garbage on twitter. But in Iowa, we know better. We have the highest literacy rate. Iowans have earned more undergraduate degrees per 100,000 people than the population of any other state. Oh wait, that's why he resents us. We're intelligent.

Yes.

Many here take what he says way too personally.

It's no big deal.

well yeah, you decided not to include all of the Power 5 teams Alabama played. From just looking at it without looking anything up you left off Wisconsin, Michigan, and Oklahoma. We don't need to lie to make a point

Cowherd was palatable about 10 years ago. Since then he went through some mid-life crisis, left his wife, and his show has gone downhill ever since. He used to engage in intelligent conversation, now he has turned into full on shock jock. He gets way more attention on this forum than he warrants and he is going to continue to deride Iowa because it gets him attention. Quit feeding the troll.

Iowa's two best wins are ranked higher than Alabama's two best wins. Alabama beat 23rd LSU and 25th Wiscy. Iowa beat 13th NW and 25th Wiscy. Cowherd actually started bashing the SEC recently which is fun.

You can make your own judgments, but I thought it best to put all the information out there.

I hope that he keeps bashing us and our fans keep getting pissed about it. Its been a recipe for success so why stop now?

Then he is the epitome of what is wrong with America. He doesn't like effort, he doesn't like anything not categorized as elite. He is an expecting, entitled, douchebag. Back in the older days the story of Iowa would be seen as a great thing.

Bama OOC - 13 Power 5 Games

In fairness, 14 of Iowa's 24 P5 games are Iowa State. The matchup on Iowa's schedule is what it is, but Iowa is never going to get a lot of credit for comepetitive scheduling due to the Iowa State game.

It would have been nice if Mizzou hadn't backed out of our series or if Syracuse hadn't gone completely in the tank after the series was scheduled. We actually caught some good Pitt, ASU and Arizona teams, but nobody says "wow" when you look at those names.

Alabama actually scheduled OU when they were down, though Stoops had them good by the time they matched up. Now that 'Bama's profile has risen again to maybe an all-time high, they can go schedule better teams because they know they'll get one mulligan and still be in play for the NC if they lose early. You can see that their scheduling profile clearly ticked up in 2009, which probably means they decided to schedule tougher sometimes in the 2004-2007 window.

Unfortunately, Iowa is one of the worst positions for in-state P5 rivalry games. There are several in-state rivalries that are in-conference (FSU-Miami, Alabama-Auburn, Michigan-MSU, Oregon-OSU, USC-UCLA-Stanford, Washington-WSU, ASU-AZ, OU-OSU, TCU-Baylor-Texas-TT, Ole Miss-MSU, UNC-NCSU-Duke-Wake, UVA-VT, Tennessee-Vandy, Indiana-Purdue, Northwestern-Illinois). Several more involve teams where one side or the other is good with some frequency (Clemson-SC, Florida-FSU/Miami, Texas-A&M). There simply aren't a lot of in-state rivalries between P5 schools that are both OOC and where one team is traditionally very low in terms of performance and national respect. It definitely hurts scheduling.

If we are trying to get everything correct, you need to update the Alabama list as Northern Illinois beat Alabama in 2003.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. I like what you did, & this one game, year in & year out is killing our ability to schedule a worthwhile opponent.

So I am for 1 of 2 options. 1. ISU needs to man up & become relevant again (barf). or 2. We need to stop scheduling them, period.

For those of you that want ISU off the schedule, who do you think Iowa would replace them with? Do you think it would be another P5 team or another crap team?

The whole reason to drop them would be to put a quality p5 in of course. that was immediately apparent to me when I saw the graphic comparison above.

Iowa's schedule mix really isn't that bad, but the problem is, Iowa gets no credit for ISU because they're generally not very good. So, instead of two solid to upper P5s, Iowa tends to play a bad P5 and then a middling program who may or may not be good that year. Iowa should be playing games like Pitt, ASU, Arizona and Syracuse...but those shouldn't be the elite games. Iowa doesn't have to play Alabama every year, but get an SEC team to come north and toss in a game here and there with a "name" program. ISU being locked into that spot every year just reduces flexibility when they want 7 home games every year. A 9th B1G game is going to make it even harder, as I bet most top programs are going to go to 2 mostly winnable games with one challenge. For Iowa to do that, they'd be playing 2 P5s.

I wondered what happened to him as he was palatable when I listened to him back in the day also.

If you think Limbaugh is nothing more than an entertainer, you're ill informed. Poor parallel on your part.

On Sunday Sehorn said the reason he didn't like Iowa was they barely beat Nebraska. After a few minutes someone finally mentioned that MSU lost to Nebraska. He said, "C'mon. Don't give me that argument." Can't make this stuff up. What a complete idiot.

What many fans fail to recognize in this new CFP atmosphere is that Hawkeye fans ought to be cheering ISU on to as many one loss seasons as they can muster. A better ISU program is now a good thing for Iowa. In the old days when Iowa struggled to corral the top in state recruits away from Iowa State it made perfect sense to see it the same way Hayden did...but now we live a different world. Iowa State being good is good for Iowa...as long as we always beat them.

My point being was to show how pitiful Bama's OCS has been. Yeah they've put an OU, Va Tech, Penn St. and a Wisc. in there now and then but overall there record is just a pitiful as what Cowherd was whining about IOWA's. And as was mentioned previously in the thread how odd it is that it's a good win when Bama beats Wisc. on a neutral field but it's a down year for Wisc. when the HAWKS go into Madison a couple weeks later and win. But no mention of any of this in his diatribe on IOWA.

And who the hell plays Lamar? I heard that reference 3 or 4 times while he was piss'n and moaning about the HAWKS. Have we ever played them? Sounds like one of the W's Baylor would dial up or something. Anyway, Cowherd unfortunately has a national following and what he says to the sports radio/ TV audience, whether it has any merit, does stick in some peoples minds as fact. To call into his show I've listened to people that have valid points get hung up on and afterward called mouth breathers, knuckle draggers, because he didn't have a legit response. Sad that Fox would stoop so low to hire the clown after ESPN dumped him.

well yeah, you decided not to include all of the Power 5 teams Alabama played. From just looking at it without looking anything up you left off Wisconsin, Michigan, and Oklahoma. We don't need to lie to make a point
Well Meat, don't think Colin made any effort to include Arizona St. Arizona, Pitt. ISU, either. Did he verbal any of Bama's opponents over the same period? Did he mention Chattanooga S. Miss., Louisiana Monroe, W. Carolina etc. etc.? Wisconsin? We played them at their house and won. Bama played them on a neutral field a couple weeks earlier and it was a good win? But not Iowa? Please. Figure it out Skippy. It's pretty easy.

Sorry I don't listen to Cowherd but the fact stands that if you use the same logic as Cowherd then you are just as bad as him.
