Creening at UM

Doesn't sound like he was pushed out or we are restricting where he can go, but you never know.

It would be nice to see a player leave Iowa and go somewhere relevant. Hubbard went to some obscure school. Ingram to IUPUI. Meyer to some juco in Florida and then to Houston, where he averaged 1.8 ppg and Dickerson went to South Dakota. Clearly Fran has a keen eye for talent and isn't desperate at all in throwing offers around. Maybe he should Fran some of his staff and hire a recruiter, get a couple juco players who actually play in games or find guys like White from KU now at Nebraska.

Might want to start calling it "Franning" after this off-season.

Has Fran ever been over the scholarship limit? No. Has he ever forced anyone out or told a 5th year senior there wouldn't be a spot for him due to a red shirt? No. So your assertion of calling it franning is no where in same ball park of crean and Beilen.

Good points.

We don't know if Fran ever forced anyone out or not. He may not be over the scholarship limit but he was actively recruiting with no scholarship available. On top of that he was wanting to give Baer a scholarship. Since it is the team that we cheer for, we will say that Hutton was looking for a new opportunity and Fran knew that and that is why he was still recruiting for the 2016 class even though he didn't have any available scholarships. Maybe Fran stops recruiting for this class and gives the open shcolarship to Baer. If he doesn't that would probably mean that another player is transferring. Two guys leaving freeing up some much needed scholarships sounds a little like a Franning to me.

Here is who Hutton was behind on the depth chart at the 2/3 spot:
Jok - Sr
Baer - So
Ellingson - So
Fleming - So
Moss - Fr
Williams - So (when JBo runs the point)

I think he was saw the writing on the wall that playing time probably wasn't going to be there, especially with McCaffery and Wieskamp coming aboard in future classes. Wouldn't be real surprised if another from that group, especially Ellingson/Fleming/Moss, decides to go elsewhere as well. Lots of young talent at that spot with more on the way.

Oh just stop, good freaking Lord.

Fans tend to lose all perspective when it is their own team. Not saying that is what is going on with Fran, as we have no way of knowing, but I could see where opposing fans could see it that way.

What Michigan is doing with Spike is BS since they are saying he can't transfer to another Big Ten school. They must have forgotten how they got their starting QB this football season.

Don't blame Doyle for transfering his game doesnt fit Michigans style of play. Doyle and the Michigan coaching staff knew going in Doyle was going to have to adjust his game to fit Michigans style and Doyle's adjustments havent been going well so it's going to be a good split for both parties. You can't give a guy a ton of minutes when he throws your style off a bit and limits your team when he is in the game. ANd thats just honesty and looking out for your players best.

I'm sure or atleast I hope Fran talks to his guys and explains why they arent playing and if they fit into the future of the team much. If the players cant make the adjustments the coaches cant play them unless they are willing to throw the teams style of play off and limit what the team can do on the court. Fran has a few guys on his roster that would be better off on different teams.

Lot assumptions there. But just like when he got here Fran could have told Devon Archie who was juco and used a red shirt due to an injury to take a hike and not stay for his 5th year. But he honored it. He has never been over the scholarship limit at Iowa like Beilan or Crean or told a player (especially upper classman) to take a hike to bring in another freshman. As for Hutton only he and Fran know his thought process of when he started to look around to leave. With Fran's track record he hasn't pushed anyone out of the program to bring in another person. Especially Hutton as RS frosh with 4 more years ahead of him. In past 6 years Fran has never exceeded the limit and I think most coaches this time of year are pursing kids still and keeping in contact due to high transfer in college bball anymore if they are at or near the limit.

Plus even though most don't think he will go early you have to take in to account Jok's situation and have that back up plan. You think OSU is glad they are still going after unsigned players after losing 3 in 2 days?

And if he stopped recruiting he would have been vilified by all the haters on this board for not doing his job. There is no way he is going to win with some of you guys. It must really gall some of you knowing, deep down, that McCaffery, having just strung together four straight 20+ win seasons and 5 straight post season appearances (including 3 NCAA's) is not going to be fired as head coach at Iowa.

I don't want McCaffery fired and after Lickliter I appreciate all Fran has done and happy that he is Iowa's coach. I don't know what is happening with transfers I just know that when it was happening at ISU people on this board were complaining about Hoiberg. I am just trying not to be a hypocrite.

Fans love to bitch. It's what they do best.

I live near Seattle and try this compared to what Fran has done. Washington basketball has had Lorenzo Romar coach here for 14 years. They are 11th in the country over that span in having players drafted. DRAFTED! They are 8th in the country in having players that have played at some point in the NBA. Over that span, Romar has 8 tournament wins and currently is on a 5 year absence from the NCAA tournament. He will have at least 2 first round draft picks this year and possibly a 3rd will be drafted from a team that couldn't make the tournament. He's made the tournament 6 times in 14 years but does have 3 sweet 16 appearances. Never got beyond that.

Fran is doing a fine job.

You have to, you can't sit on the sidelines waiting for the next one to open up. Then you're too late.
