Kudos to those that made the trip and represented! Well done. I couldn't make the game (work/weather) so I was a TV viewer. While I'm not a fan of the set up of Carver hawkeye arena, if the students aren't going to show up regularly, give the seats to those that are willing to show up and pay money.

Kudos to all who made the trip with the weather being what it is.
It can be 74 degrees with all the students on campus and it would be the same thing. Other schools have fans that make it fun during the game. The gray hairs at Carver sit and golf clap. Not bashing old balls because I'm old as well. This is consistent with Carver and It needs to change.

The diehards showed up tonight, us loyal souls who bleed the black and gold, cursing, cheering, jeering, roaring. Crowd was into it tonight because it took some effort perhaps, wheat instead of chaff in the seats primarily.

100%. The people who made it to the game were great last night... Just need more of those like them. The NIT crowds have reminded me of back when Carver was much louder and more active.

Sherman Dillard tweeted a thank you to the fans because they were awesome. We talked about going but got stuck in a work meeting late. Got home just in time to turn the game on.

3 of us were talking about going but decided against it. We are in Des Moines. It was just gross out yesterday. Definitely want to give props to those that did make it to the game from out of town. I can’t believe people are bitching about people not going with the weather we had yesterday. That’s just nuts.

I can’t blame anyone. Drive time was basically doubled.

Not the weather. That atmosphere. $$$$ Barta.
My comment wasn’t directed at you. Sorry if it seemed that way.
I have to be honest I’ve never been to a hoops game at Carver so I can’t really say much about the atmosphere. I only know what I read and see on tv. I was a wrestler so usually go to a few wrestling meets a year. From the meets I’ve been to I do know Carver can get rocking. When Ramos beat Oliver that was the loudest I’ve ever heard an arena.

I actually live In Pleasantville. I had friends in town playing downtown at the vaudeville last night. I didn’t even try going there. All of my friends in Des Moines was saying how bad it was. Some stayed home because they wouldn’t have been able to get back to their house because of hills. Going to Iowa City just didn’t seem like a good idea.

Congrats to everyone who risked going to Carver last night. When I lived in eastern Iowa, I did the same stupid thing--going to football and basketball games on icy, snowy roads, and sometimes walking quite a ways to Carver with wind chills well below zero but, luckily, never ended up in a ditch or in an accident or at a hospital with frostbite.

Now about 1,500 miles away, I don't deal with those conditions any more. I'm only a TV fan for basketball season, and I was impressed with the crowd last night. Despite everything, several thousand people showed up and most of them did a great job helping the Hawkeyes run Maryland outta the gym. And that's what people should do. I don't get why you would go otherwise.

So let's hope the weather will cooperate the rest of the season and that the Hawkeyes will finally get some good news and enjoy some good luck as they fight their way through the Big Ten and into another NCAA tournament. And I hope folks will fill Carver and give this Iowa team the vocal support it has earned.

From my perspective, if I had to guess there were about 8,000 in the seats once the game got rolling. Great energy last night. These guys deserve a boisterous crowd at every home game. Make plans to be there!

This is incorrect. You obviously missed some pretty fun games last year when we were on a roll. Too bad.

I complain about the crowds but that aside.

Even though it was a small crowd last night they were loud!

And it wasn’t just that the crowd was loud it was more than that. It was a passionate, into the game crowd. It sounded different (in a good way) & felt different.

I think the players fed off it as well. There was an edge to the crowd. Borderline angry. Feistiness to it.

I liked it!
